Is The Hermit Kingdom (North Korea) Crying Uncle?
Over the 500 or so blogs I have written, many were written on foreign policy, which included my opining on/about the Hermit Kingdom… better known as North Korea. Today, the surprise of surprises happened when Kim Jong UN, the Supreme leader of North Korea, essentially, cried uncle when he sued for peace by asking to meet mano-o-mano with President Trump. Many of us thought that war -- Nuclear War -- was afoot because of the often, saber rattling and personal insults between the two leaders. However, the peace doves seem to be outnumbering the war hawks and the former are voluntarily circling… which have many of us hoping that the diplomatic Chasm/schism that has divided the US and the West… that has been going on since the US/Korean war is rapidly thawing.
We must be mindful that the war between the United States and North Korea -- June 25th, 1950 – July 27th, 1953 -- created the infamous 38 Parallel… and that to this day, technically, we are still at war with the Hermit Kingdom -- which is defined as any organization or society, or country that willfully walls itself off metaphorically or physically from the rest of the world -- since it is only a truce that halted the copious blood-letting on the Korean Peninsula for some sixty-five years and counting.
What a difference the posture of governing makes in dealing with the perennial, prickly issue of North Korea. President Trump treated Kim Jong UN like how bullies are supposed to be treated -- provide no diplomatic quarter like the mistakes made by the previous Presidents/Administrations. President Trump apparently utilized the Chinese, the parent that provide most of North Korea’s succor, to apply the whip, along with unrelenting, tough United States sanctions and a robust, visible war posture… with President Trump willing to go to the brink of not only conventional… but Nuclear War….
It must be noted that even if President Trump were to bring peace to the Korean Peninsular, the corrupt media would still not give him a ‘break.’ I remember that President Obama was given the Nobel Peace Prize for doing ‘nothing’ and dollars to donuts that there are members of President Obama’s cult of personality who are now concocting a cogent reason why President Obama should be given credit for today’s peace overtures between North Korea and the United States/the West. President Obama reminds me, through these objective eyes, of Shakespeare’s apt saying: … A poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing…!
I truly hope that I am not counting my chickens before they are hatched… because I am acutely aware that many Presidents have tried to bridge the Diplomatic chasm between North Korea and the West and have failed miserably. However, I must admit that the fragrance of the Olive Branch of Peace between the United States and North Korea is a fragrance I welcome and I hope it lingers. As it is my wont, I have used music, here, John Lennon’s -- Nobody Told Me There Be Days Like These -- to help flesh out this blog.
