It's Magic

Updated on January 7, 2015

Tevya is at the Table

Good Morning, Breakfastpoppers. Today is Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Our dear friend, Wasp Tevya, is at the breakfast table. He has asked me to invite all of you to a delicious breakfast of potato pancakes and home-made applesauce. I will be whipping up a batch of Irish Coffees for one and all. Tevya is more than a little confused. At one point, not too long ago, the nation was in the midst of enduring one ugly scandal after another. Certain members of Congress got all bent out of shape and promised to get to the bottom of the mess. Did they? Tevya doesn't think so and I have no idea what is actually going on either. Please join us this morning while we kick some ideas around about the state of our nation.

Thank you all for joining me this morning. I have heard the expression that "silence is deafening" but I really didn't understand it until now. I sat down the other day and made a list of scandals that have been plaguing this nation. I went through each item on the list and could not find one that has been resolved. Remember Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the "prisoner" who President Obama swapped in exchange for the release of five Taliban detainees in GITMO. Well, Bergdahl has yet to be charged with anything and the five detainees are probably preparing to get back into the fight and kill some more Americans. Rumor has it that a decision may be made soon about Sgt. Berdahl. I also heard that Rex the Wonder Dog will be arriving any day now.

Remember the hearings that looked into the IRS and its treatment of conservative organizations? Those missing and then found e-mails that belonged to Lois Lerner are still out there is cyberspace. The IRS apologized for targeting tea parties, but something more had to happen. A simple " I'm sorry" just doesn't cut it. Congress held some hearings and the matter slipped away from public view. The White House chalked the entire debacle up to disgruntled Republicans who wanted to cause trouble. No one except for some delusional Democrats believed that, but even so nothing happened and no one was held accountable. Documents were produced that showed that the feds were directing the IRS to target tea-party and conservative groups. One Senator, in particular, Carl Levin (D-Mich) made clear that he intended to attack all opposition to President Obama. Did you hear anything at all come of all of this. I think all that happened was a whole lot of talking. Nobody got to walk the plank. Too bad, in my view.

Veterans Matter

It is heart-breaking to realize that the severe problems going on at the VA have yet to be dealt with effectively. President Obama was content to blame the Bush administration. The problems most certainly began before Obama took office, but is that any excuse for allowing them to continue? If anyone out there thinks it is, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. President Obama has been in office for six unbearable years. What has he been doing besides playing golf and selling us down the river?

Benghazi Excuses

Let s not forget the terror attack in Benghazi. The lies coming forth from this administration were appalling. Hillary Clinton's infamous "what difference at this point does it make" will stay with me and others for a very long time. If she gets to run for president, someone ought to produce a video of her saying those hideous words and run it 24 hours a day. How is that investigation going? Does anyone know? I had high hopes for Trey Gowdy, but the lack of information coming out of that committee is maddening. The brave individuals who came forward to tell what they know should have been awarded the Medal of Honor. Instead they had to endure being ripped to pieces by the White House. Once more the silence is deafening. I remember former U.N. Ambassador John R. Bolton saying that Benghazi could bring down the Obama administration. He wasn't alone in feeling that way and it is a crying shame that it didn't happen.

It's Game On

The new Congress has been sworn in and we have no time to waste. This nation is suffering from a lack of leadership, conviction, talent and morals. If the Republicans don't set the course straight, our recovery may never happen. It is clear that President Obama has no interest in governing by the rule of law. He left Washington just as the new faces were coming in. Let's face it, it is easier to be a dictator than a president answerable to the people and the Constitution. It is my hope that this new Congress floods the White House with bills that address the pipe line, ObamaCare, the deficit, the EPA , the overreach of the Justice Department, the problems at the VA, the tax code, Benghazi, ISIS and immigration. There is so much left be done, but they have to start somewhere and they have to start now. Get it going and accomplished before President Obama changes us forever.

Tevya's Song

Dear God, you made so many politicians

It's no shame to be a politician

But it's no great honor either!

Dear Breakfastpoppers:

Have a great couple of weeks. I am taking some time off from politics and writing. Keep the world safe. I shall miss all of you.

      Good Morning FitnezzJim,

I see money in climate change, immigration, racial tension and almost anything, I suppose, why not scandals. It also gives Congress the pretense of actually doing something when in reality they are doing nothing. See you at the Inn and then I am signing off for a bit to regroup and get away from Obama!

We all seen to agree, but I’ll offer an additional thought anyway. Could it be that scandals are perceived as a source for cash flow? With each new scandal, news outlets sell more ads, activists get to make more public appearances, congressmen get more airtime, and scandal investigators get hired. No one involved in fanning the flames of scandal really wants to see an end. Simply put, they are getting income from it.

In a world where there are no consequences for actions, there will never be a reason to stop.

If you get irritated on both sides of the aisle, you might try the aisle as nothing is going on there. lol

Have some good time off Pop! I'm sure our nation will still be standing on one good leg and breathing through one bad lung until you get back. If you need inspiration while you are gone, you can always lean on the shortest verse in the Congressional Bible:

      "Boehner wept."

      Dear lambservant,

I loved the poem and the good wishes. I hope the nation is still in one piece when I resume writing. I'll be at the Inn tonight.

      Dear bradmaster,

What a terrific idea! I get mail from both parties which is really quite informative. I get to feel irritated on both sides of the aisle. See you at the Inn.

      Dear Tom,

You are way too generous. It's more than stupid, it is deliberately obstructionist and anti-American. I'll be at the bar tonight and then I am going into hibernation.

Abracadabra, alakazam, now you see scadals, now they've gone scram.

Abracadabra, alakazam, the dems called an inquiry, but it was a scam.

Abracadabra, alakazam, nothing ever changes, politics is a sham!

We will miss you breakfast pop, but I can see why you need the time off to recover from the horrible effects of a bad government. Blessings my friend.

Great hub and these items are not just missing the dotting of the i, and the crossing of the t, they are missing the spotlight to shine on the truth of these items.

Pages have flown off the calendar, and there is a heavy layer of dust that have formed and hardened around them, obscuring them from the scrutiny of the public.

What would get the message to the democrats that these issues must be brought to a just closure is to have more of the voters re-register as independents. The registered voter is treated by their party as a cashed vote for their candidate.

It would be a shame if the phrase

      What difference does it make

is really voting in elections in the US.

Anything short of that action won't be heard.

None of them bother me as much as the treatment, or lack thereof, of the veterans. No matter who is in office, ignoring those who served us is a national sin.

      Enjoy your time off!

      Pop and Tevya,

I heard the President say he stood ready to veto a pipeline bill despite about 70% approval for its passage. Stuck on stupid.

Talk is cheap. All we get is lip se rvice. No w that the GOP controls congress, it would be nice to see some positive action.

      Good Morning ike,

Washington stopped functioning 6 years ago. If Obama has his way things will continue along that road. We are sinking fast and now is our only chance to plug up a few holes. Let's hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I almost puked when I saw a picture of Boehner and Pelosi hugging. See you at the Inn!

      Good Morning caro,

If nothing changes it will be because Obama vetoes everything. That won't play in America. Having said that, I am sick of the whole mess. I'll be at the Inn and try a Rusty Nail.

I have nothing to add to this hub. Most of us are aware that our elected representatives could care less what the voters want. Already Bohner has sworn to get even with those who voted against him keeping his job as speaker of the house.

If this "payback" thinking doesn't concern anyone else it should. Do we really want or need politicians who make their top priority "getting even" with other politicians? Entire states may suffer because their elected representative dared vote to replace this worthless speaker of the house.

How can our elected representative even function when they have to fear retribution from the powers-that-be every time they vote.

Our system is not only broken, it is out of control.

It is easy enough to have continual lip service. And so many talks, bills up for signing and nothing is happening. So it is better not to expect anything. There seems to be no truth. So lets meet at Cyber Inn tonight --the one that is in LALA land. I am thinking about having a Rusty Nail
