Just Another Independence Day
Today as any other day of the month, I went to my office. As soon as I entered the office premises, a guard standing on the gate gave me a national flag lapel pin. I just took it and then moved towards the building. I saw him giving to everyone who was passing by the gates. In the lift, I noticed few of my seniors holding it in their hands, they would probably keep it in the drawer, I thought. As I came to my seat, I pinned the broche to my bag.
After settling down in my desk I saw one of the working staff wearing that lapel pin with pride. That was the moment when I got struck with the question, why I cannot pin it to my kurti? Am I ashamed to do that? It is my national flag after all.
How many of us face this thought daily in our lives. There are many times when we are ashamed of what we are. I wonder how good a country can become if people know to accept and mend their mistakes.
