Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner: The Union Community Backs Them.
Starmer and Rayner: The Winning Ticket?
For those on the right of Labour, dreaming of a Blairite comeback, Keir Starmer, must be their man. They must be dreaming that Starmer, will bring back the voters they lost at the December general election.
Keir Starmer is the current Labour Shadow Brexit Secretary and former Lawyer. According to recent polls, many see him as the man to take on Boris and win. Labour has now lost four elections and must have a leader who is charismatic and connect with voters across the political spectrum.
Unions UNISON and Usdaw have given their backing to Keir Starmer's leadership bid. Community is the latest such union to come out and officially back Mr Starmer also.
Community union leader, Roy Rickhuss has said, it is time for Labour to put forward "credible policies" so Labour can win the next general election.
It is not clear or indeed a foregone conclusion that Labour members will back Mr Starmer. Indeed, Labour leavers may not trust him, as he was a remainer, even though he has stated Brexit is done, we must move on. Some Momentum members probably will not give him their vote and will lend their vote to Rebecca Long-Bailey, the designated successor to Jeremy Corbyn.
However, bookies are backing Keir Starmer, to take over from Jeremy Corbyn, in March. As well as a leadership contest there is also a contest to decide who will be deputy leader.
One strong woman coming through is Angela Rayner, she too it would appear has the backing of the unions. She comes over as a down to earth and matter of fact kind of politician. Coming from an ordinary background herself, she is more likely to understand the lives of her constituents.
Some regard Keir Starmer, or Sir Keir Starmer, as posh. However, despite this, Keir Starmer did come from humble beginnings.
The ballot papers will be going out to Labour members next month, so will Starmer and Rayner, be the dream ticket? March will soon come around, and then we will know.
