Isolation Doesn't Have To Be Boring

Since most of the world has come to a standstill, is shut down, and people are being urged to STAY HOME unless absolutely necessary, many of us who are more active, or who are use to going visiting, or to our daily jobs, are starting to get "cabin fever".

Even a few days on 'lockdown" gets to bother some of us, but you don't have to just sit and stare at walls. There are ways to kill time, and have a little fun. You can also connect to distant family and friends sitting in the comfort of your own homes.

Wouldn't it be nice to sit and see that beautiful grandchild so very distance at the moment? You can, and guess what, it is free!

FaceBook Video Chat

Using FaceBook Video Chat

You can use Video chat to talk to those loved ones far away, and for free using FaceBooks Video chat, providing you and the person you wish to see/chat with, has a web cam. All you have to do is click on their name in your available chat people, and then the little white video camera.

It actually is like a telephone call when you click on it, you can hear a ringing till they answer. Then when they do, you sit back and talk like they were in the room sitting beside you!

Gaming Online

Computer Games

Many people own gaming systems now, and it's a great way for to kill some time. I've never been a gamer myself, but my grandchildren are all into gaming. With these new systems, you can even play against other people online, and even chat with them as you are playing.

Just so you know, I once had a gaming system, it was called Pong, and compared to the systems today, I would say Pong is equivalent to watching the grass grow! My mother bought it for me when I was under a different kind of isolation...I had the mumps!

Like to Color?

Coloring Isn't Just For Kids!

I use to love to color when I was a child. I always had a stock of crayons and coloring books laying around. I also had many scrapbooks and drawing books and markers. It was a great way to spend a bit of time if the weather outside was fit to be out in.

Well since many of us enjoyed to color as children, they have came out with adult coloring books. There is also a site online where you can download FREE adult coloring book pictures to color yourself! Of course you will have to print them off to use them!

So, if you like to color, you can visit HERE for free coloring book sheets for adults! I did want to make something clear, adult coloring books doesn't necessarily mean pictures of the x rated type, it just means they are more oriented to adults in that they have much detail and intricacies.

Downloadable Games/Jigsaw Puzzles

You Can Have Them Right On Your Computer!

As I've previously stated, I'm not much of a gamer, but I alays enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together. I remember many years ago, my wife and I were renting a house, and we had a spare room. So we set up a table and used this room to put together jigsaw puzzles. I even put a TV in the room to watch the hockey games and a small beer fridge...that's another story!

Anyway, besides being able to download these puzzle games, there are many other types other than the shoot them up killing games. There are FREE games available in the Microsoft Store! Visit, download, and have some fun.

Just wanted to mention that jigsaw puzzles are readily available at many stores, and are inexpensive, also a great way to kill some time!

Cooking Your Way Through Isolation

Making Great Food

I realize many of us,including myself are trying to watch our waistlines, staying healthy, and eating properly. So as we are laying around, we are going to get bored and probably eat more than usual, but we can take this isolation time to cook healthy meals.

There are so many great recipe books out there with all kinds of healthy food recipes. There may be some trouble for some recipes in getting all the ingredients from time to time, but if you are inventive, you can probably get around this particular problem!

Are You Creative?

Video Editing

Not all of us are created equal when it comes to creativity, but that doesn't mean you can't try something different. Video editing sounds like it is quite complicated and you need all kinds of fancy equipment. You don't. There are many free software programs available to edit video clips. All you need use to get video clips is to use your phone! Or if you have a camera, that works!

If you don't have any video of your own, there are many sites that have video clips available to you. Pexels.com and Pixabay.com are two of them.

As to the free video editing software there are many, but i prefer Hit Film Express! It is totally feature packed, and isn't that complicated to use. Plus there are all kinds of tutorial on YouTube to teach you the basics! If you want to try it out you can get Hit Film Express HERE and if you would like some tutorials, you can find a great one HERE.

Video editing is a lot of fun, and once you start, it almost gets to be addictive!

Creating Videos From Your Articles

Lumen 5 is much like video editing, only they put your video together for you. You can take your written articles, paste the URL of the article into a box, and Lumen 5 will throw together a video out of the article. Of course it is a summary of the article, and often leaves out important points.

So, you often have to edit the videos to add or subtract content. It is a free site that allows you to create several videos, but as with many sites nowadays, they have an upgrade. since i'm a cheapskate, I use the free edition, and created the below video out of a post I made a few days ago.

I edited briefly, just adding a few frames and type, but if I would have taken more care, it would have been much better, I just wanted to show what you can do.

Get Busy At Home

I realize it is easy to say remain calm, but it isn't so easy to do. If we keep ourselves busy through this very trying time, pay more attention to each other, and show a little more human kindness, we can beat this awful thing, and all come out better for it.

I hope these few suggestions might help you kill some time, and keep your mind off of those things we really haven't much control over. Do what the experts tell you to, and try not to panic!
