Blu Sings the Blues

Good Morning, Breakfastpoppers. Today is Monday, July 3, 2017. It is the eve of our nation's birth, and things are not as they should or could be. Our nation is divided in so may ways. Racism has reared its ugly head again. Lying is acceptable and consequences are only occasional. Blu is here with me this morning wanting to discuss some of this with all of you. She has asked me to invite you over for fabulous Breakfast Pizzas and cold refreshing Bloody Marys. I will be supplying the drinks. We hope to see you soon.

The Root of Evil

Thank you so much for joining Pop and me this morning. I am saddened by the level of hate that is evident all around our nation. On one level these times remind me of the Hitler years. This madman was able to excite the German people in such a way that the ugliness inside many of them found an acceptable escape. I can't think of any other explanation for the psychotic cruelty that swept Germany. A sick nation cheered as the despicable Hitler reached into their vacant souls and told them it was okay to despise the Jewish people and anyone else who was deemed to be inferior. And the people cheered. And the people agreed . And the people stood by as, ultimately, the German Jewish population was imprisoned, tortured and destroyed.

How is it possible that the German people accepted this nightmare so easily? There had to be something inherently awful inside of many of them in order for Hitler to succeed. If there wasn't, he would have been stopped immediately, but instead he went on to kill millions of people. Thank God we are not experiencing the same ugliness here, but isn't it really a matter of degree? Something awful has erupted in our nation, and it must be stopped before it spreads even further.

Facing the Truth

It isn't easy to admit that what is happening in our nation is not business as usual. Something is off. We are not simply experiencing differences of opinion. We are not conducting ourselves like civilized human beings. We are not behaving like good citizens. Something is off. Evidence of the collapse of our collective moral compass is everywhere. Witness the professor from Essex County College in New Jersey who felt perfectly justified and comfortable to say " Boo hoo hoo, you white people are angry because you couldn't use your white privilege card to get invited to the Black Lives Matter all-black Memorial Day Celebration." The professor didn't think twice about her remarks, because given the present day spin on race issues, she felt safe. As it turns out, she was wrong. So many complaints came in about her remarks, that she was fired. She should have been terminated, and it is a wonder that she was. If this is the beginning of seeing consequences for awful behavior , may it continue. The problem is that we need to see more of the same, because if we don't , we will suffer as a people and a nation.

Source

How It Began

The ugliness, in my opinion, began under President Obama. He seized every opportunity to divide the races. He played up every incident between the police and the public. The end result is the toxic environment we have now. Unless I am suffering from amnesia, I don't remember things being so bad before he emerged on the national scene. He brought a lifetime of hatred for our country to the White House and he unleashed a virus that is still festering today. That ugliness has been amplified by so many in Washington, D.C. We can't afford to listen to the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Elizabeth Warren, Chuck Schumer and so many more that listing them is a task that would fill volumes. Those elected to represent us feel perfectly comfortable to lie like Pinocchio. They don't appear to feel uncomfortable lying. They don't appear to regret jerking around their constituents. They show no evidence of feeling guilty for tying up progress promised by the Trump administration. Their idiotic rhetoric about Russia, the health care bill, the border and everything else important to the American people is crippling this nation. The Republicans are to blame as well. If the hold-outs are not capable of crafting legislation that works, they are to be deemed incompetent. In the private sector, it is unacceptable to fail at a task. In the private sector, jobs are on the line and everyone involved knows that. Get results or get out! The same should be true of Washington.

Whisk Them Away

The saner parts of our nation must reject the uglies who wish to turn us against one another. The saner ones among us must reject the vicious rhetoric of those in Washington, Hollywood and the media. The saner among us must turn off the mainstream media and make their ratings plummet. The saner among us must reject the publications that continuously publish fake news in the hope of twisting our minds and turning us into sheep. We need to be strong, vigilant and reject every attempt to twist the truth and turn us against one another. Those who have unleashed the ugliness inside them must be punished. Write a phony, unfounded story and lose your job. Tell a lie to your constituents and lose your job. Face the American people on camera and give them half-truths and lose your job. Behave like a fool on college campuses throughout the nation, and lose your spot in class or your job. There are serious minded people out there who would love a chance for a better life and a better job. Let the goodness and decency in most of us, silence the evil ugliness in some of us. We have no choice. If we are to survive as a nation, there is no other way.

Blu's Song

Don't clip my wings

Don't tie me down

I have places to go

I have people to see

Above all else

I just wanna be free....

      Robin,

You say in your message above. "He ignored our borders and essentially told our border guards to stand down." That is a bias opinion not based in facts." Your broadcasting things that are simply not true when you critically think about it. Did you even read the snopes page on this? It was first given a True grade and them changed to a Mixed True meaning yes there is TRUTH to this statement that "Obama deported more immigrants than any other president." they break down how the numbers were calculated due to new policies that occurred in the Bush administration that made Obamas numbers go up more than other Presidents, so yes that is True. The statement itself is not False. Did Obama right an executive order to cancel Bush's policy no he did not? Don't you think if he wanted more immigrants coming into our country he would have done that? To me it seems like you see or hear about something Obama did and then don't bother doing your research as to why he might have done this or in fact if it's actually true. No Obama did not ignore our borders, that statement is simply false.

I see that you are racially bias when it comes to Obama. For one, you show no moral outrage when people of color are mistreated and oppressed unfairly. Does't "We the People" mean all American's or just white American's to you? After all our black brothers and sisters built this country they are more than deserving of equal treatment. White people are not superior to black people, we are equals. Did it so bother you that Americas first black president spoke out against racism and the inequality of blacks and whites? Or do you think Blacks should be quite and not feel comfortable speaking out? They should know their place, like the woman you wrote about in your piece. I see what outrages you. You don't like it when black people speak out and advocate for themselves. Why does that make you uncomfortable? You need to do introspection of yourself and find out why? Racism hurts white people too. Racism skews our sense of reality. It damages our humanity. It makes us weak. Racism lies to us about our history. It covers up the many valuable contributions people of color have made to the world across history, leading us to believe they are less capable and deserving than us. It hides bigotry, manipulation, violence and outright theft that lead to many whites historical accomplishments, leading us to believe we are more capable and deserving than we are. It lies to us about how and why and for whom our country was founded. It silences the diversity of voices in all races, including Whites who fought and died to end slavery, segregation and discrimination. Racism lies about our identity, the full truth about are mixed DNA where we came from and how we got here. it lies about are values of democracy, equality and meritocracy, leading us to believe these exist for everyone, and that the American dream is the reward bestowed on anyone who works hard enough.

Thank you for the interaction, I can see more clearly now how Trump supporters view the world. I hope you will think about what I wrote and consider it. After all doesn't one lose the ability to critical think when they believe one human being is superior to another. Good luck my friend...

      Good Morning Robin,

First I want to say that I have been on HP for over eight years. Over the years I have witnessed first hand the power of fake news. You are a victim of fake news when you say that my assertion about Obama's border control is false. Obama did not deport more illegals than any other president and here is why. It appears that his deportation numbers seemed high because there was a change in the way "deportations" were defined. The change began in the Bush administration. Illegals caught crossing the southern border were sent back to Mexico and were not counted in deportation stats. I go to great lengths to research what I write about. I have outlets that I trust completely such as Judicial Watch. I see that you are new to this site and have not written anything. I suggest you get involved and write some pieces and see what it takes to pull things together. I am here because I love to write, I love this country and I love the community of writers I have come to know and respect over the years. I stand by what I write, but I am not a journalist working for a news outlet, and I don't have to answer to an editor. If you doubt what I have said about Obama's stats on deportation, do the work yourself. The proof of what I assert is all over the place, including, of all places, SNOPES! Have a nice day!

Show me facts to support you charges against Obama let's start there. If I'm going to consider your statements I need to be sure they are in fact true and not bias in nature. I will debunk one of your statement with a simple fact. Facts don't lie. Obama deported more immigrants that any other American president in history see fact here.

      https://www.dhs.gov/immigration-statistics/yearboo...

Remember opinions are not facts and can often be bias in nature so if were good critical thinkers lets follow the facts when considering how we form our opinions if we don't do this we are just the sheep and following blindly. Now critically think about what I wrote regarding race you did not respond to my questions but just did more Obama blaming. It's dangerous to follow any leader blindly as you are doing. I even know Obama was not perfect but he was fair. Let me back up my statements with some facts for you to think about. Trumps executive orders target people of color here is a link that explains that with credible facts and sources. http://time.com/4679727/donald-trump-executive-ord...

You mention Black on black crime. Do you know how inner cities were formed? It wasn't by accident that so many black people ended up there. They were formed after slavery as black people were segregated into those areas as whites did not want them living anywhere near them. Red lining was created to keep black people out of white neighborhoods. Government kept inner cities in poverty. No money put into the schools in the inner cities, no youth programs no boy or girl scouts no youth or sports centers but they did make sure a liquor store was on every corner. Blacks were not allowed to own or start a business in their own neighborhood, not allowed credit like white Americans but money and opportunity were poured into white middle class neighborhoods basically creating a third world country in inner cities within America. So yes black on black crime is a reality of many generations of oppression and yes we do need to do something about that as well. The answer is not "law and order" as DT likes to say. That means locking up more Black people and keeping the school to prison pipeline going for the inner cities. African Americans are incarcerated 5 times more than white people and thats not by accident. The answer to help the failing inner cities is to create opportunity for the youth so they don't get into drugs and gangs and have a chance to get a good education. DT does not support this.Facts and data here from the Human Rights Watch. https://www.hrw.org/united-states/criminal-justice

      http://www.naacp.org/criminal-justice-fact-sheet/

I look forward to being able to think about your facts to understand how you formed your opinions.

      Good Morning Robin,

Honestly, your conclusion that President Trump does not support equal treatment for all human beings is out of left field and false. His policies are fair, his goals in line with keeping America strong . The policies you say you agree with were not in place during the Obama years. The divide in our country racially speaking is his legacy, and it has nothing to do with President Trump. Obama weighed in on every single local issue that involved a black citizen being attacked in some way by a white person, particularly if a cop was involved. He came to conclusions and spoke about them before the facts were in. He was silent when it came to black on black crime or black on white crime. He consulted with Rev. Sharpton more than any other person, and that speaks volumes about Obama. His interests were not aligned with the best interests of our nation. He began his term in office by apologizing to the world for the supposed arrogance of America. He bowed and kissed the rings of our enemies and treated our allies with disdain. Returning the bust of Churchill was a testament to his upbringing. He treated Benjamin Netanyahu like garbage, leaving him to stew in a room while he went to eat with his family. His whispered assurances to Medvedev that he will be able to be more "flexible" once he was re-elected smacks of collusion to me. He ignored the problems at the VA, and literally let people get away with murder. He ignored our borders and essentially told our border guards to stand down. He used the IRS to get even with conservatives. He showed weakness in his hideous foreign policy decisions, and the Middle East fell apart. He referred to ISIS as the JV team, and he let them grow into the nightmare they are today.

I could go on, but my point is that not one of theses things has a fig to do with our new president. Those who elected him are feeling very optimistic about our future as a nation, and that is fabulous. His ideas are terrific and he is putting them into action. The VA is already improving thanks to his policies. Our position in the world is vastly improved. His honesty is refreshing and long overdue. We do need a border wall. We do need to vet those wanting to come here more vigorously. We do need to fix broken ObamaCare. We do need to care for our veterans. We do need to make sure NATO countries pay in their fair share. Obama's energy policies were doomed from the start. They represented more of a payoff to his donors than anything else. President Trump has already improved matters by getting rid of all the strangling policies put in place by his predecessor.

Donald Trump will go down in history as a great leader, because his hands are not tied by political ambition, greed or power. I have no doubt, and I am not alone in this, that Obama will go down in history as the worst president this nation has ever known.

Ok, Yes I think those things you mentioned are good for our country but those things have already been in place long before DT. Health care needs some fixes but is working for some. He is a master manipulator and does not use critical thinking when talking about Americas problems and that makes him a dangerous leader for our most vulnerable Americans. My view is all humans are deserving of equal treatment as the United States Constitution gives all Americans that right. DT does not support this in his rhetoric and policies he has presented.

Do you believe America is a melting pot? Why do you think Obama caused the race problems in America? Did you really think America was post racial because we elected a black president? I'm curious as to how you have formed your views regarding race in America. You say "We are not behaving like good citizens." "Something is off." Evidence of the collapse of our collective moral compass is everywhere." Yes, I agree so much with this statement but for different reasons.

DT tapped into "inherent racism" to bolster his candidacy using fear of the other to scare Americans. Where is your collective moral compass on that one? Look I agree Isis is a threat to America but we have to look at what is happening on our own land. What would you call Dylan Roof and other white men that have gone on killing sprees in this country. Should they be called terrorist's? I think yes that is only common sense right? Why does the media always say they were mentally deranged when the white men kills people but the brown men are the terrorist's. I'm sorry but that is called hypocrisy my friend. All humans are sadly capable of violence and race has nothing to do with it. In America we only call out the violent brown people and give excuses for white people who commit violence against others. There is facts data and evidence to this truth. Since DT was elected hate crimes against people of color have drastically gone up, families attacked and children. Does this not bother you? Or your news media does not report on it so your not aware of it? A white man in Canada with extreme right views went into a mosque and killed innocent muslims, where was DT's outrage when that happened? He does not condemn hate groups like the alt right who are a modern day KKK. How is this ok? White people are the only ones that can eradicate racism. Our ancestors started it and we must finish it once and for all, our humanity depends on that. Can you walk in the shoes of the others and show compassion and empathy?

Hello pop & Blu....Good to see you again. I can report I'm in only a slightly more positive mood than when last we exchanged via email, at which time, my general disgust was at an all-time HIGH.

However, maven 101 has given me cause to cheer again with his superb comment to your interesting hub!

Bravo, maven! Your comment is factual, accurate and profound! Such a disgrace & utter failure is BHO. I will forever regret ever extending even the smallest amount of support or faith in the huge LOSER he turned out to be. We can only hope & pray he fades into oblivion alongside the Corrupt Clinton Duo....never to disgrace our country & try to destroy our Constitution, piece by piece, ever again. And PLEASE, that we can toss Pelosi, Schumer, Warren & like Morons, on that same garbage heap, headed for never-never land. Oh what a sickening group of frauds, taking up our oxygen & polluting our lives. Indonesia is the perfect place for Barry the Muslim lover. He needs to just STAY THERE! No doubt he'll join ISIS.

      Dear Robin,

Yes we have many things in common, but I still so not know what your world views are. I am happy to tell you that I want our borders to be secure. I want those wanting to enter our country to be vetted thoroughly. I want health care to be remedied in such a way that it does not cost a fortune, but is available to those who want it. I want free trade. I want the US to be treated fairly in terms of climate change. I want the rest of NATO to pay their fair share. What do you want?

    • RobinWV profile image

      RobinWV 4 months ago

Let's start with things we have in common I see you like common sense so do I. I'm a fifty year old white woman. I'm assuming your white too. I can see we are both not happy with politics in America. Just to give you an inside into my thinking when I hear or see about a problem that maybe I don't know a lot about but it really makes me angry I'm motivated to see the bigger picture of the problem that is happening instead of just being angry about it. To do this I have to consider others peoples perspectives that doesn't mean I have to accept what they are saying but I have to consider it because they are different from me and it could possibly expand my thinking on the issue and in fact I would say it always does. Next I do my own research to see if this perspective is backed with facts and statistics or studies. I never assume that I know everything and I always know there is more to learn on any given problem. I make sure not to surround myself with people who are or think just like me. I feel I grow more as a human when I understand the vast human experiences of many different cultures or view points that are different from my own. That is what lead me to your hub page. Our world views are very different but at the same time I don't want to dismiss you because you don't think like me. I think that's wrong but I also think it is wrong for other people not to consider other viewpoints in their own thinking.

Thanks for coming to the breakfast table. If by "my thinking" you are referring to my disdain for the MSM because of their consistently false reporting, then I stand by my perspective. Frankly, it really isn't a matter of having a different perspective or opinion. Perspective is 99 percent reality. It's important to walk in the shoes of others to understand how to view the world and it's problems and how your worldview effects other people. If you are only able to understand the world from your perspective alone you will be limited in analyzing world events and problems. Americans are masters at concealing truths from our own conscience. Your thinking is part of the problem my friend.

      Good Morning Kris,

Of course you are right about the Democrats. If the Republicans can't get their act together they will be held responsible for blowing the best opportunity to fix thing in a very long time. This Russia garbage began the moment President Trump was elected. Clinton and her backers concocted this false narrative to stall any possible progress Trump could make. Thus far, he is moving ahead despite their ugly antics. Although I wish he would be a bit more circumspect in his tweets, given the current atmosphere, it is the best way to get the truth out. See you at the Inn and God Bless America!

      POP and Blu:

I agree with everything you have said; however, I believe that the people stoking the fire are the liberals. Look at Chuck Shumer - he knew the truth about Russia and continued to throw logs on the fire instead of dousing the flame. Why would someone do this? There is no truth anymore. Nancy Pelosi does the same. The liberals are so disrespectful - they don't even call our President by his name - President Trump. They just call him Trump. The media is the same just saying or printing anything that will get ratings. That has been proven over and over again. I wish there was one journalist who would stand up for the truth and say it. If our president had one person who was on his side, I think the tweets would stop; however he has no one to trust. The Republicans never stand up for themselves, and they deserve everything they are getting now. How about making a statement that what the Dems are saying about the healthcare bill are lies? They are cowards, and I am sick of them.

I think it is time to go to the Inn.... A red, white, and blue drink is awaiting me. My flag is flying high, and no matter what is going on, I am still a proud American. Let's drink to that!!!!

The belief that one is superior in some form to other human beings has existed since the dawn of Man... Belief is the death of intelligence...As soon as one believes a doctrine of any sort, or assumes certitude, one stops critically thinking about that aspect of existence....These beliefs take the form of race, ethnicity, culture, and religion....Obama, hailed as the first "post-racial" president failed Americans with every one of these forms...He reignited racial discord to the national level where before it was confined to a few extremist groups like the Black Panthers, La Raza, KKK, and other hate groups...By legitimizing Black Lives Matter and denigrating police forces across the nation, he set ablaze a racial and anti-law enforcement wildfire that is burning to this day in most major US cities...

Anti-Semitic, anti-Christian, anti-American commentary is the new normal for Western journalism...Free speech has morphed into what I call "designated speech", which is only acceptable and allowed if it fits the progressive narrative...

President Trump may be crude at times with some of his tweets, but he does speak to the American people in language they understand and get...When attacked by fake news, familial insults, and outright lies, Americans want to see a President defend his family, his honor, and his integrity by counter punching through his media by-passing tweets....

See you at the Inn, Pop....I'm looking forward to expressing my "over-abundant patriotism", as Obama snidely remarked from Indonesia the other day, and talking about the only true colors that matter: Red, White, and Blue...

This is the best hub I have read in a long time! I am with you except that your history is off by about 240 or so years. Indentured servants? Slaves? Irish, Polish, Italian racism? Now, black on black, radical right vs. liberals? We are a broken people. If America really followed Jesus' teachings or Buddha teaching, or compassionate living we would be a much different society. Money talks, it is the root of all evil. We are the largest economy??? Hmm. I love reading your hubs thanks a million. Down with hatred and up with compassionate living.
