Muslim Sharia Law Honor Killings in Canada

Updated on February 4, 2012

Guilty of murder. That is what a jury found: an Afghan father, his wife and their son guilty of killing three teenage sisters and a co-wife in what the judge described as "cold-blooded, shameful murders" resulting from a "twisted concept of honor."

Can if happen in the USA? Yes. Ontario, Canada is not far away for many on the east coast. Each were guilty of four counts of first-degree murder in a case that shocked and riveted Canadians from coast to coast. The three teens (all girls) bodies were found June 30, 2009, in a car submerged in a canal in Kingston, Ontario, where the family had stopped for the night on their way home to Montreal from Niagara Falls, Ontario. The reason the Afghan immigrants gave seemed fine to them according to their customs because they dishonored the family by defying its disciplinarian rules on dress, dating, socializing and going online. The three teen girls dressed like teen girls do in Canada. They do things teen girls do much to the disdain of their parents who simply could not give up their Sharia Muslim customs. They seemed to have forgot that Afghanistan is NOT Canada or anything Western and their ways and customs are NOT accepted many times. It is either that or they simply could care less and felt the "honor" to the family was more important than life. The killings were made worse because their 21 yr. old brother joined in with the parents in killing them.

During the trial, police wiretaps revealed the parents spewing vitriol about his dead daughters, calling them treacherous and whores and invoking the devil to defecate on their graves , were a focal point of the trial. The 19 yr.old. girl, was dating and having sex with a Christian boy. It was the oldest one that rebelled against her Muslim upbringing (they all came to Canada in 2007) in the most provocative manner and she declared that she wanted to live with others than live with her Muslim family.

After the jury gave their verdict, the three surviving family members indicated that it was still okay and they had done the right thing as Muslims who live by Sharia law and that the great Allah will condone the murders of the girls.

I think the three will be in Hell. Sharia law should be outlawed in Canada and the USA.

Thanks Kathleen and MG, I agree with both. Jihad should apply to islam itself from within!

Islam frankly is a religion that is dominated by extremists. They are the ones whohave given importance to the negative aspects of Islam like the Sharia. We have lots of Muslims in India, but the Sharia is not applicable. Islam needs a revolution from within to make it progressive.

They will tell you the restrictions are for the purpose of honoring them. You have to hand it to those men. OK girls, we're going to take away all your rights and freedoms then we're going to tell you we expect you to thank us for it. When I first moved to Saudi Arabia in 1990, I thought I needed to respect their culture and try to understand it. By the time I left in 1994, I wanted every single one of my freedoms - no matter what! I understood plenty and respected very little - other than those lovely women.

islam is really a pro-male religion and totally biased against female. However, if you talk to women in this religion, they think otherwise.

This behavior is being seen more and more in western countries. I commend you for having the courage to speak up about the injustice and pure evil of the acts committed. As I can see from the comments some do not look at it the same way. All I can say to that is that if someone wishes to follow their own laws then they should stay where their own laws apply. If any of us go to another country, we are expected and legally obligated to follow their laws. It works both ways.

Since I'm getting into such a sensitive area here, I'm going to continue. I keep reading about females being put to death for breaking this "law" in regards to dating and sexual matters. Is it not just as much of a sin for males to do so? I don't hear about any of them being put to death and I don't for one minute believe they all remain virgins until marriage, of which I have to pray is consented to by the female!

Thank you for another most informative hub.

Yes, we are better, IMO, in these respects.

By their god! Not yours! I already stated that I was against it. I condemn such behavior but it obeys to their "laws". They may look at our lethal injections, electric chairs with outrage as much as we do with their laws!

Who are we to judge them after all? Are we better? How many of our compatriots died innocent (proven by the DNA practice)?

hey max, I know we seldom agree but how in the world can you remotely state honor killings are just and ordained by God?

I am against such behavior always condemning, punishing women for men offenses. Their "laws" disgust me because they are biased? But what about ours? Don't we have a double-standard justice? You seem to point out too many fingers to Iran, Afghanistan, I will dare say towards Muslim countries! Do you have personal reasons that push for such hatred?

Why don't we check our own society? Nobody rapes nobody? No girls threw babies in the trash for fear of their parents' anger? No brother has sex with his sister?

The only difference is the punishment!

It has happened in the USA. Thank you for your outrage. Hope to God an American jury would do the same. And as for the brother? I know of a case where a teenaged Saudi girl was stoned to death after giving birth to a baby that was the result of a gang rape in her own home. Her own brother was one of the rapists. God help us.
