My 7 Favorite Eco Quotes – Great Short and Inspiring Statements for Environmental Protection

The earth is facing so much challenges today… our polar tips are melting, extreme weathers, big storms and heat waves, spices losing in high speed, ocean filled with disposable plastic and micro plastic going into fish, soil pollution and over farming, use of chemical fertilizers and hormones in livestock industry endanger human health from the food source, reliance on fossil fuel… the lists are endless. Sometimes it may seem discouraging to inspire people around to be alerted of the environment issues and encourage them to be eco-friendly.

We understand words are powerful and can be inspiring. However I felt most eco quotes are either lengthy thus not impacting enough, or they are ideologist thus not practical enough. Here are my favorite quotes which are short, concise and in some cases practical in real life. Some are quoted from other (anonymous) but most I rewrite them to give make the message stronger.

This one is my most favorite quote. It’s very short but clearly demonstrates the situation we are in. With the earth we don’t have a planet. We simply do not have a Plan B! Many people is thinking of finding another planet, turn it into a place that suitable for human being, e.g. migrating to Mars. To me this is rather ridiculous. Why are we hurting and damaging a planet already suitable for human, and on the other side, finding another Plan B and turning it into something we already have? I just don’t get the catch.

I rewrite this from very famous quote from Mohandas Gandhi. The original version is “There is enough on Earth for everybody's need, but not enough for everybody's greed”. What a brutal truth! People always think there is a scarcity and we must take away from others in order from ourselves to survive. The truth is this is an abundance world. Human are simply too greedy or fear of insufficiency that we overly exploit our planet.

Simple accounting: when you overdraw your bank account, there will nothing left for your future spending. So when you overdraw the resources from the earth, there will be no resources left for your future and your children’s future and so on…..

Many times, people just not aware we are enjoying everything from our mother earth. They think to act a green life and concern about our environment is a sacrifice. A eco-friendly life demand us to scarify comfortable and convenience lifestyle, it takes more time and money to be green…! The truth is when we save… saving resources as well as saving the earth, the outcome will return to us. It is not a scarification; it is indeed a clever doing for our survival.

I like this quote as this is very practical. Nowadays we are buying too much, much more than we need. And most kind of products involve raw materials from natural resources, manufacturing process consume energy, transportation produce carbon emission… We do not have to compromise quality; we simply need to choose wisely. Buy natural and better quality clothing or other consumables, but less in quantity and use longer.

This is another practical tip to work out in real life. People talk about recycle, sometimes reuse. However the fundamental cause of too many stuff entering into our life comes from is that we are letting them in. Learn to say “No!” to things that you don’t actually need, say “No!” even it is cheap, or free. Reduce the clusters by reusing them or donating them if they are no longer suitable.

Exactly! Saving the planet is everyone’s responsibility, not the government, not your county, not your neighbor, but YOU! The earth is contributing to each and everyone, so start from oneself! No one party is capable to save the earth, not even superman, if everyone else is doing the opposite. So let’s do it from each of us!
