Did you know....

I obviously deal with race/gender/religion inequality every moment of my day. I did some widespread research and uncovered some ugly, but fascinating truths about racism:

  • people of color are the highest percentage of race to live in neighborhoods within 1.8 miles of the nation's most hazardous waste facilities.

  • in the U.S, the unemployment for minorities are twice as high as whites.

  • in Great Britain, it's worse with four times the unemployment rate.

  • in the U.S, Blacks are only 12% of the national population, but they make up 48% of all inmates.

  • in Australia, the percentile of Native Australians in prison is 14 times higher than the national average.

  • Xenophobia is the fear of foreigners or people different than you.

  • there are 762 different kinds of hate groups in the U.S

  • there are at least five times the genetic variation within any race of people than between them.

  • in Washington D.C, in over a 50+ year spans, the segregated black public schools were equal to or better in academic scores than a majority of white public schools on tests in the nation. This dates all the way back to 1899.

  • IQ scores are affected by environmental factors.

  • on average, Orientals and Jews have the highest IQ score, followed by Caucasians/Europeans, then Blacks.

  • In tests done by the US Army, Blacks from Ohio routinely have a higher IQ score (49.5) than Whites from Mississippi(41.25)

  • A public school, #161, in Brooklyn, NY is 91 Black and 8% Latino. The average lass size is 35. 80% of Kindergarteners can read, 6th graders have the 2nd highest reading score in NY State, and nationally, 6th-8th graders are in the 93rd percentile of reading and 96th percentile in math.

  • According to Pierce,Greg; "Inside Politics- or the Records", Washington Times, June 1999, 69% of Democrats voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, whereas 82% of Republicans voted in favor of it.

  • the annual median household income for Asians is $45,249, Whites is $38,972,Hispanics is $26,628, and Blacks is $25,050.

  • 66% of Blck kids live in a single home.

  • only 18% of Whites live in a single parent home.

  • 45% of Blacks own a home, but 67% of Whites own their own home.

  • Hispanics are considered "white" or classified as such in law enforcement databases and reports whether they are perpetrators or victims.

Defining Color

According to

Black is defined as: soiled, stained, or dirty

Brown is defined as: fed up/angry, offensive description of a non-white person, and tanned.

A White person is defined as: honorable, dependable, innocent, and decent, a pure color.

It's funny because I am Hispanic and whenever I have to fill out forms that ask about ethnicity..I really have to read it carefully.

      It asks are you

      2)are you....

      d)Native American

Generally, I mark off "other"...because I truly do not like to be cubby-holed into a race group.

If there was a way to write my answer to race, I certainly would write..."human"

Let's all remember that we are not born with racism and hatred in our hearts. It has to be tought to us by someone.

Racism is rampant in society and the only way to deal with it is through education, education, education.

Thank you for the stats. It would be interesting to compare the US stats against other countries, like Canada, UK, Asia, Australia and China.

I have experienced racism throughout my life and have spent my time educating the youth in my communities that I have lived in. The attitudes changed during these sessions. However, I have seen the extreme where a majority becomes the minority and they experience racism. I truly believe that education is the fundamental tool that must be used to change how society interacts between each other.
