OC Racist email

Orange County Republican Committee member Marilyn Davenport did not think that the email she sent of OUR president as a chimp was racist. Marilyn Davenport is 74-years-old and apparently for all of those years she was sheltered. She did not understand the historical or social implications of comparing a black man to an ape. Maybe she needs a history lesson.

To justify slavery and other ways to oppress America’s blacks during reconstruction, racism had to be justified by religion and by science. The religious basis was the casting out of Ham by Noah in Genesis 9:25-27. Ham’s son Canaan was marked for protection and the mark, according to racist, was the color of his skin. Noah also said that Canaan would serve as a servant to others. They also use verses in Deuteronomy that speak about how species are not to be crossed to justify why blacks and whites should be kept separate.

However, they ran into a problem. When science became a more prevalent method of examining the past, it clearly showed that modern man came from Africa. So, again, to justify their superiority, racism was justified though the use of social Darwinism. Charles Darwin believed that life on earth evolved from simpler life forms. Man came from apes. Hence, black people are inferior to whites because they are not as evolved.

Charts like the one in this link were used to show that black people were actually intellectually inferior because they were closer to apes than whites. Other charts were more graphic, showing the more erect whites and the more ape-like backs. The founders of eugenics whose goals, at the time, were to keep blacks in their place, used this science as a justification for cleansing the races.

Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood had this to say, "Birth control must lead ultimately to a cleaner race." This was the plan of Eugenics. Hitler would later say that he used the blueprint of the American Eugenics movement to design his ultimate solution for Jews. In Mein Kempf he wrote, “The demand that defective people be prevented from propagating equally defective offspring is a demand of clearest reason and, if systematically executed, represents the most humane act of mankind”. He would never deviate from this doctrine as he killed 12 million people to purify Germany.

Those he considered defective were, of course, Jews, the mentally handicapped, gays, blacks and any other races that were not pure Aryan.

Racism has not yet left America, as evidenced by Davenport’s email. However, it must be noted that racism is ingrained in our society. We should not be surprised when people like Davenport refuse to see the racism in pictures like the one above. It is in their DNA. It is part of the belief system that superiority lies in the color of our skin and not in the content of our character.
