O'malley Balances Budget on Backs of State Workers
Maryland Flag
***NOTE: refer to the link below to read the article, as hubpages doesn't seem to want this is in any sort of context or to make it easier to read... Ok, I have edited this several times, removed all of my article I WROTE, that was published somewhere else. Removed links, and it is still telling me there are issues. Anyone know what to do about this? I'm definitely not stealing content, and I think my comments lead into what my original article was about. Any suggestions?****
I wrote this article a few days ago, in response to O'Malley plans budget shift to avoid spending cuts (search for it on their site) (published online at Baltimoresun.com) and I thought I might share it with you all.
Many comments on BaltimoreSun.com, I think missed the point of the article. All of Maryland is hurting, but the Governor shouldn't continually pick on state employees to fill his budget gap. This will be the third furlough in a row since 2008, and not much has been done to trim other costs. If the budget needs to be balanced, it should be spread out among everyone. State employees do not make lots of money, and cuts in wages affect many of us to pay our bills. In addition, the furloughs are shortsighted. Maryland should be working hard to pump money INTO the local economy to rebuild it's tax base, rather pulling out of it.
I had additional calls to have it put in the Maryland Gazette (which may be pending) and Washington Post, so I thought it might be good. Here it is:
