Eroding Freedoms in America

There are those out there who would take away our freedom and rights guaranteed us by the United States Constitution. They feel the Constitution is an antiquated document having no relationship to our modern society and should be rewritten or thrown out altogether.

What’s that? You think that’s absurd? Not as much as you might think. It wasn’t long ago, people said we have freedom of religion and no one can tell us where we can worship or hold bible studies. Yet, somebody did. Christians holding private bible study classes in their own homes were cited by city officials and told they couldn’t.

Many examples of our eroding freedoms abound…look at the news. Tea Party members being told they can’t have their meetings in a public park, where they had always held them. School children being told they can’t mention anything about their Christian beliefs. So called “hate crimes” where someone merely states their opinion, or banning of books considered overly offensive. The list is too long to detail.

These are things our Constitution supposedly guarantees us as citizens. So, why are we are being told these are things we can’t do, better yet who is telling us? Obviously, it’s our liberally minded government officials who believe they are smarter and know better than the rank and file average citizen. These are the people we elected to serve us with our votes.

No matter what the bureaucrats in Washington think, they are not smarter than our founding fathers who wrote our constitution embedded with a checks and balances system. They were wise enough to know absolute power corrupts and there would be those endeavoring to impose their will on society.

We have representatives ramming bills through congress which have no constitutional backing what so ever and are not wanted by the majority of their constituents?. Why? Aren’t they supposed to represent the majority? Yes, they are, but no they’re not.

They’re following their party line and personal agendas. Why? It’s been proven some have been bribed with guarantees of high paying jobs if they aren’t reelected, just so long as they vote with their party line. So obviously it’s greed and personal gain at play. Do we want to keep these individuals in office? If something isn’t working, fix it.

How? Go back to a time when things were working and copy that example. Elect officials who will implement those kinds of measures.

“Remember in November” has become a popular slogan recently, and with good reason. Americans are tired of watching our country and freedoms go down the toilet. Our vote is our weapon against those who would impose their idealism on us. Let’s not try to rewrite our Constitution, something that has worked well for over 200 years.

All that is needed is to enforce the one we have. So, remember in November to vote for the candidate who believes in keeping our Constitution the way our wise founding fathers originally constructed it.

      @worldgrandeur, we are only currently better off than dictatorships. If things continue as they are in America, we will be one in the same.

      Pay attention! The erosion of our freedoms shifted up a gear right after 9/11. Vote carefully!! WE don't have very many elected officials looking out for us right now.

      Though you are right in your hub about the stolen freedom and about the days to come, but looking at the global situation, I guess America is far better comaring it to other dictatorships around the world... At least, you get the cnance to write this hub without getting arrested or jailed... Good hub.

      Excellent article and I couldn't agree with you more. the slogan is perfect. I think most of us are afraid of where this country is headed and I have high hopes for Nov.
