Tevya Wants to Opine

Good morning, Breakfastpoppers. Today is Monday, May 23, 2016. Our delightful friend, Wasp Tevya, is at the breakfast table this morning. Tevya has prepared an elaborate spread of bagels, lox and cream cheese for our enjoyment. I will supply all the Irish coffees necessary to turn a lively discussion into an even livelier talk. It seems that America is growing less receptive to differences of opinion. From the local school board to the Oval Office, Americans are being directed and tutored to speak and think in a very narrow way. Differences of opinion are no longer welcome. Please join us at the table this morning to talk about certain "changes" taking place in our country that are very un-American. We hope to see you soon.

Shhh!

Thank you all for coming to the breakfast table this morning. Let me get right to the heart of the matter. The Portland Public Schools Board of Portland, Oregon has passed a resolution to remove from every classroom any and all materials that would dare to cast doubt on whether or not climate change is actually happening. The vote was unanimous. Not one person on the board gave any thought to the pre enormous amount of evidence on the other side of the issue. In effect, Portland is preparing to scrub the classrooms clean of any textbooks or other materials that do not present climate change as absolute fact. Climate change according to this group of non-scientists, is real and it is caused by human beings. The resolution also demands that the curriculums in the schools address climate justice, as well. If anyone in Portland objects to the silencing of free speech they are being very quiet about it.

Freezing Free Speech

The resolution passed by the Portland Board is indicative of what is going on all over our nation. It isn't just about climate change. It is about everything exclusively American. Our history is under attack. Our speech is being micromanaged in ways that are insane. Portland won't allow its students to read and study the work of prominent scientists who aren't completely sold on the notion of global warming. A new study challenges the results of previous studies by finding that the ice in the Antarctic is actually growing. Access to this type of information will be denied to students. This denial is all about brainwashing and not at all about education. True education allows for differences of opinion. Anyone truly concerned with climate change should be willing to review and explore all the available data. Instead, climate change champions wish to silence dissent and punish the dissenters.

Freedom is Dying

The Portland resolution is just the tip of the iceberg, no pun intended. Freedom is declining in our nation. The Fraser Institute released its annual report, "The Human Freedom Index" and found that our nation has fallen from 17th place to 20th place when it comes to personal, civil and economic freedom. If you thought that America leads the world as the land of the free and the home of the brave, you were wrong. Our decline is in direct proportion to the expansion of government. These findings are appalling. The Heritage Foundation's "2015 Index of Economic Freedom" showed the decline of the U.S. from 2nd place in 2000 to 12th place. This drop coincides with government's increasingly intrusive role in all of our lives.

Into the Fire

The reasons for our decline are overwhelming. Obamacare put a nail in the coffin by limiting competition and being largely unaffordable. Our government spends our money with abandon on projects none of us would approve of if we were asked. The State Department squandered our money by authorizing a $500 million dollar payment to the United Nations climate change program. They did so without first obtaining congressional approval. The rule of law is dead in America. Our system of checks and balances is dead. Congress is dead. The Constitution is dead. If we don't wake up soon, we won't be able to live here.

Tevya's Song

Dear God, you made so many leftists

It's a shame to be a leftist

And it's no great honor either!
