Sudden Passing Away of APJ Abdul Kalam at Shillong

The ‘missile man’ arrived at Shillong IIM at 5.40 p.m. on Monday.Then he took rest at the guest house for a while .Kalam came to the lecture hall of IIM to deliver speech on science topic ‘ liveable planet’ at about 6.40 p.m. His collapse on the stage in front of the audience was abrupt after he had lectured only for five minutes in the hall. Abdul Kalam was so quickly hospitalized by 7 p.m. with so much effort of the attendants and the organizers. He was kept in ICU for some time for the betterment of the ex-president .But all was in vain.

According to the doctors, Kalam reached the hospital almost dying after having suffered a cardiac arrest. John Sailo Ryntathiang,the director of the Bethany Hospital, said that they tried the hardest to save the life of Kalam but could not .Then Meghalaya Chief Secretary P.B.O. declared , “Kalam is no more.”Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan regretted , “the doctors made enormous efforts to save him but we lost a great leader”. Roytre Christopher Laloo, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister , said ,”Kalam’s body will flown to New Delhi via Guwahati in an air force helicopter on Tuesday morning.” From Shillong,his body was taken to his residence in Delhi. 10, Rajaji Marg is the address which Kalam made his residence in Delhi. Indian sitting President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were present with other dignitaries to pay homage, respect, tribute to Dr APJ Kalam. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and the three service chiefs were among those who were waiting to pay tribute to Kalam in Palam airport. BJP leader like Shanawaz Hussain was present at the Palam airport. An aircraft, especially arranged for Kalam, left Palam of Delhi to fly to Madurai of Tamilnadu. The dead body of Kalam was being taken on roads to his native, Rameshwaram where funeral took place.

Meanwhile the Loksabha(the house of the people) and the Rajyasabha(the council of states) were postponed for that day for the loss of a great life after having paid tribute to the legendary Kalam. These houses would have been opened on 30th July. The Union Cabinet said in its resolution ,“the country has lost a visionary scientist, a true nationalist and a great son.Dr Kalam made significant contribution in developing India’s first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle and made India an exclusive member of the space club. Popularly known as the ‘Missile Man of India’, Dr Kalam was responsible for the development and operationalisation of Agni and Prithvi missiles. He gave thrust to self-reliance in defence systems by introducing the Light Combat Aircraft,...Dr Kalam was passionate about transforming society through technology, in particular by inspiring the youth of India to harness science and technology for human welfare,” The members stood and kept two minutes silence and left the house on the death the great Indian soul Avul Pakir Jainalabdin Abdul Kalam.

The Rajya Sabha stated: "In the passing away of Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, the country has lost a true son of India and his contributions to the nation, in his capacity as a man of technology, a teacher and a leader will be deeply cherished by a grateful nation." Members fro the Rajyasabha stood in silence for a while to pay tribute to the departed soul.According to the Vice President of India the death of Kalam is"an irreparable loss to the country." He added , "He was a guide to India's space and missile programmes and his efforts saw India become a front-ranking power in these spheres. His life will always remain a source of inspiration to all. He visualized a distinctive profile of India by the year 2020 which included responsive, transparent and corruption-free governance and where the nation is proud of its leadership."

Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit said, “May Allah Almighty rest the departed soul in peace and give fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss”.

Israeli Ambassador Daniel Carmon said,“I was fortunate and honoured to have met this great man and to be inspired by his personality, achievements and vision. RIP”.

Maldivian High Commissioner to India Ahmed Mohamed said,“Sincere condolences on the sad demise of Dr A P J Kalam. A great and inspirational Indian President”.

US Ambassador Richard Verma ,“My condolences to the Indian people on the passing of former President Abdul Kalam, an inspiring scientist and leader” .

Prime Minister of Nepal,Sushil Koirala said,“I am saddened to hear the news of the demise of former Indian president Kalam. Nepal has lost a good friend and I have lost an honoured and ideal personality”.
