So Who Built It?

Updated on July 19, 2012

Offensive To Many...

What I am beginning to hear seems a bit surreal at times. The latest gaffe from the Teleprompter-In-Chief goes like this, “If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business. you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” I happen to have built my business since retiring from the US Army Obama. So if I didn't build it, just who the hell did? Who is "somebody else?" The federal government?

If that is your answer then my answer to you is that you need to do a rapid exit from the national scene. It is no wonder with an attitude like that our unemployment figure has remained above 8% for 42 months. There should be no doubt why 23 million Americans are without a job or underemployed.

So, as a small business owner, what options do we choose from? Was it the Easter Bunny who came hopping by with a special delivery? Or maybe the Tooth Fairy left us a gift under our pillow? Or Santa swooped down the chimney and left us a ready made business under the tree one year?

Just who does Obama think built this nation? It sure wasn't the federal government though he now wants you to believe that it will always be your saving grace. It also appears to me that someone (Obama) is intent on destroying the very thing that those in the past and present have toiled to build and establish in our nation. Over the past several decades the federal government has done more to hinder individual determination and self-reliance that the founding fathers must be doing back flips in the grave.

I now am convinced that this obviously academic, egghead socialist is completely out of touch with what America and our economy thrive on - the individual and not the state, If you don't have any idea of how this economy operates and the engine that powers it then what makes you think you can lead any form of economic recovery?

Yes Obama, small business owners are the backbone of the nation's economy. The federal government produces nothing and I mean not a thing. My next question is the most serious one I have at this point in the nation's history. Just "WHO" does Obama think the federal government, or any other government entity, is? Has the man read the Constitution and all the associated documents and papers at length?

Let me give you a clue Mr. President. The federal government is "We, the People..." I am hoping that you understand that because we put you there and we can take you out. Somehow I believe you somehow think otherwise Barack. There are many people who have silently sat by watching you try to "fundamentally change" our country. We're called the silent majority and whether you think we exist is your option. I can assure you that we do.

Next up is the question of who pays the taxes that builds the nation's infrastructure if that is Obama's fall back position. Or maybe who financed the space program that has allowed numerous scientific advances? I reckon according to Oblabber Mouth that it was the federal government and not the people who pay for all of this (read: tax payers). That's his line of thinking. Without the federal government we would be nothing. Hogwash! A subsidized village is the only possible village in a Democrat's mind? I'm just asking...

Small businesses are where the rubber meets the road Barack. Those are the people in this nation who are the risk takers, not just the takers who have their hands out for the government dole. We undertake that risk to better this nation, provide a firm foundation for our families and create jobs for our fellow Americans and you explain it how?

How Dare You Be Proud Of Your Success!

Obama is exactly what this nation no longer needs. He's never had a real job in his entire life. He's never started a business nor run a business. He wasn't experienced or qualified to be the President of this nation. Some of you decided to give him a chance based upon a complete crap shoot. The Great Uniter has flip flopped on you believers in hope and change. He failed as many knew he would based upon his past, what little we could see of it then.

He just said something yesterday that struck a chord about continuing to do things that haven't done what they were designed to do. He suggested that we stop doing that. We've endured going on 4 years of Obama's incompetence and empty rhetoric So lets not continue to do what was an obvious mistake in the first place. He promised the nation many things and look at what we have ended up with - a failed Presidency. It's time to fire Barack Hussein Obama. He should never have been hired in the first place.

Somebody Else Made That Happen? The Proper Response...

His statement about the internet was Al Goreish. Here I thought Al had invented the internet? Roads and bridges were paid for by whom? What happened to "government by the people, for the people?" Reagan had it right. More government isn't the solution to a problem. It is the problem.

As Always,

The Frog Prince

Jim - If Mitt does not hammer away at Obummy's ridiculous, demeaning statements, then he misses a golden opportunity to advance his cause. Tell the public (sheeple), Mitt, and keep repeating it.

Fred - If Al Gore had not invented the internet, there would be no Hub Pages. So I guess in a way, the government did give us Hub Pages.

To all you ridiculously individualistic Hubbers out there: If you've got a Hub, you didn't write that. Obviously, then, not Frog but the Guvmit Its Own Self built this page....

      Voted Up Plus, as always.

      Hi Frog,

You have a classic case of a Freudian slip here. Without his teleprompter, Obama let out his true belief, but without "scrubbing his wording" for public acceptability. While it's of course true that we need government to provide a fair and level playing field, government doesn't create anything. Even infrastructure the government buys is paid for by citizen taxes (or debt later to be payed by citizen taxes). Obama essentially admitted in public that he believes in corporatism, and is thus a socialist, not the "center-left" politician he has claimed to be. Obama will pay for this gaffe as Romney hammers away at it.

Romney needs to say, "Mr. President, if we have a government, you didn’t build that, it didn't build itself. Somebody else made that happen, namely the people, the people who build businesses that pay the taxes that make government possible, the people who put the people who run the government in office...and can take them out! Goodbye Mr. President...your golfing days on the taxpayer's dole are over."

And you know what, Romney can say that off teleprompter, too.

Having owned several businesses in my life I can say positively the U.S. government had nothing to do with any of them except when it came time to pay taxes. At that time I lived in a free country and small businesses were a possibility and everyone's dream. I can't imagine how anyone with a sense of entrepreneurship functions today in the business climate of Obummer! Right on target, as usual, Frog! Best/Sis

President Obama is so full of rat manure he wouldn’t know a job or a business if it hit him smack dab in the face.

My partner and I started our own Real Estate business in February 2008 without 1 single penny of government money, or 1 single penny of government assistance of any kind. It was all our money, all at risk and still is; hard work and our own investments that made it work. NO ONE BUILT IT FOR US – WE DID IT OURSELVES. That should be a bumper sticker. Another slogan should be: “OBAMA HASN’T BUILT A BUSINESS EITHER.”

Romney NEEDS TO STOP talking about Bain capital; it’s not a sin to make money or to outsource jobs, particularly with private equity, unlike Odumbo who gave taxpayer money to firms that are no longer in business. What's the difference?

You answered your own question. The Government built that you fool! Then you turned it into a success by oppressing all your workers. You evil successful American, you!

Not only has he never run a business, nor owned a business, he's never worked in the private sector ever in his life. Perhaps that's why he believes "the private sector is just fine".

I expect that number of states not expanding the Medicaid roles only to increase as well. Why does the President care? He doesn't because they allowed the mandate to stand as a "tax penalty". So he has successfully raised taxes on those least able to afford it and all his supporters and the Dems are in full denial.

Obama wants to feed a mindset to a large sector of Americans that works on the premise that the reason they are not small business owners is because someone out there deprived them of the opportunity. He does not want to cite the determination, dedication, risk, frustration, and everyday struggled required of an individual who launches a business and keeps it afloat...he wants that picture to say that "it was given to him or her and you didn't get any!" Government loan guarantees do not create businesses...not successful ones anyway...just look at Solyndra. When Obama refers to "shovel-ready" jobs, that is his exact intent for he sees us Americans as nothing more than laborers capable of operating a shovel and paying taxes so he can continue to spend of his dream of making a socialist campground out of this nation. His vote meter says there are more "have-nots" than "haves" and he is willing to gamble on that to win the election. If he truly cared for people as he so indicates, maybe he might be asking the question right now or answering it....what are we going to do about the implementation of Obamacare now that the SCOTUS has ruled. The discussion never comes up and the implementation proceeds though at least 17 states have already said "no way". Obama will go ahead with it and stack the associated debt in the corner with the rest that America now owes, much of it created while trying to establish his own legacy as president. Electricians have a name for the process that is going on in America right's called a "dead-short"....there's nothing flowing in the system except the growing debt, expansion of the government, and more pork-barrel ideas. This guy has been a trainwreck from his from day in office and that is exactly how it will remain until his last...that is, if he does not decide to declare himself as the Grand Dictator between now and election time. Well darn it, here I thought it was my risk taking and hard work that built my business. Now I find out I had little or nothing to do with building a successful business that gave 10 families a very good living. I am so thankful the government helped me do this. I guess all the new regulations the government keeps inventing was just more help for me to keep the business running. This hub sure opened my eyes to how wrong my thinking was.
