Society and Human Being's Vision Towards Educative Conception According to Freire
What's the society's and human being's vision of each of the educative conceptions discussed by Freire in his works?
According to Freire, there are two types of educative conceptions, "banking" education, where education is used as an instrument of oppression and problematical or liberation education. In "banking" or traditional education, the concept of the human being is seen as an individual to be governed according to the norm established by the government to create a uniform society. That is, human beings have the vision that to fit in and be part of society they must comply with these requirements, becoming pupils of information; without obtaining knowledge or developing critical analysis. In this way, people in opposition are considered rebels; being marked by society as something uncivilized. On the other hand, in problematical education, the human being is considered as an individual being. This implies that each person obtains knowledge whether educator or educating. Unlike information, knowledge allows you to develop your critical analysis to defend your point of view without being penalized as a person of low intellect. People who receive a problematical education are usually singled out by society because it is considered that people with the free will of thinking are incorrect.
What are the meanings of these two concepts?
-
Project Men
This concept, Freire uses it to describe those people who continued a problematical education. Men who set out to follow a point of view based on analysis and self-knowledge that made it possible for them to create history and, in some cases, even became distinguished figures, were considered "project men" because they were known for being people who formed their knowledge in a different and non-traditional way.
-
Unfinished Men
The concept of unfinished men in Freire's texts refers to the conformist man. That is, those who despite having doubts, cling to follow the current called "society." The term comes from people who did not end up being human beings because of choosing to be a pupil of information and not of their knowledge.
