Southeast Bexar County Awareness: Board Member gives advice he doesn't live by
Who is Loren Brewer?
Loren Brewer, Southside ISD board member started life as Loren Martin. In the coarse of his lifetime has gone by many alias". Most recently, Loren Glen Adcock, Loren Glen Brewer, Loren Adcock Brewer and Loren Martin Brewer.
His paper trail has shown that Mr. Brewer and Mr. Chavez (sitting board member) have been friends since their childhood and served on the Emergency Service District Board #6 together as well.
Mr. Brewer has been in trouble with the law, having been arrested for assault, but released when the witness "went missing" and did not appear in court. It has long been mentioned on social network and the media of Mr. Brewer's temperament and his less than savory actions, to include having been censured for "eroding staff morale and creating governance issues."
History Repeating Itself
Do you believe that Mr. Brewer's behavior is dysfunctional within the district?
Superintendent Applicant
Step Down, but not out
After Mr. Brewer stepped down from his position as board president during his previous term, he made it clear by his actions that he would be disruptive and make it difficult to hire a Superintendent after the districts sitting Superintendent took a job at another district. (see photo).
On October 15, 2015, Mr. Brewer was less than pleased with the board action to suspend the now former Interim Superintendent Joe E. Gonzales. The board meeting took a turn for the worse, when Mr. Gonzales and Mr. Brewer along with their supporters became unruly during a called meeting at Southside ISD.
Mr. Brewer was heard telling the board majority "You're going out there, doing things outside the board room. You can't hire people outside the board room."
Mr. Brewer has proven time and time again, that the "team" did much of their hiring and decisions outside the board room. Their supporters were all privy to the fact that Dr. Juan Antonio Jasso was going to be let go before the board took action. Ricardo Vela was hand picked for the district Superintendent position by Mr. Brewer and the team, when they changed the criteria for hiring a Superintendent so that the only applicant that qualified was Ricardo Vela.
Vacated seats at the district were replaced by the "team" without following proper procedure and appointed the same night they accepted the resignations from the sitting members of the board, not allowing for board discussion or members of the community to apply for the vacated seats.
The "team", along with Ricardo Vela and Joe E. Gonzales, hired family members and supporters, contractors, etc. at the district without following proper hiring procedures.
The Southside Independent School District has had many issues since the "team" took over the school board; while it's true that the board majority needs to not follow in their footsteps, it is interesting that Mr. Brewer would give advice that he has shown he has not taken himself.
