The Gandhi-Nehru Family at Crossroads With Loss of Power and Influence
Defeat and Loss of Power
The 2014 election was a watershed in the Indian subcontinent. This was the first time that the grip of the Nehru-Gandhi family on the nation slackened. Right from the time of 1947 when Jawaharlal Nehru became the first Indian Prime Minister till he died in 1964 till the unceremonious exit of Sardar Manmohan Singh the Regent placed by the Congress President Sonia Gandhi to facilitate the takeover of the nation by her son Rahul Gandhi, the Nehru Gandhi family called all the shots in India.
Since 2014, in session after session of the Indian parliament, the Lok Sabha witnessed a great charade with the opposition led by the Gandhi family making it a one-point agenda to put Narendra Modi in the dock For this they resorted to spreading lies, which is unbecoming of elected representatives of the Indian people. The opposition ganged up and was vociferous that the country is passing through an undeclared “Emergency”? In real terms, the only time an emergency was foisted on the nation was in 1975 when Indira Gandhi imposed the emergency.
The facts that are now emerging are chilling, Almost all the leaders in the opposition spectrum like Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Sitaram Yechuri, Nitesh Kumar, A Raja as well, Brinda Karat, Sharad Yadav, also the Communist parties, JDU, TMC, BSP were shouting that democracy is threatened by a Fascist PM. The PM is supposed to be following a Hindutva agenda for the saffronization of the educational institutes. By repeatedly uttering this, the leaders hoped that Narendra Modi's bastion will be breached.
This has not stopped and even now the Congress party and the extremist Muslim parties along with the left group have again joined hands on the citizenship bill, claiming that it violated the rights of the Muslims. Nothing could be further from the truth than this allegation, as the bill basically concerns Hindus who are persecuted in neighboring countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh and have to leave the country. Both these countries are overwhelmingly Muslim populated and the abduction of Hindu girls and conversion to Islam is rampant.
Political Opportunism
Serious accusations were framed at the Prime minister and sadly most of them were fake and mischievous. The men with the Gandhi clan namely Sharad Yadav, Sharad Pawar, even Nitish Kumar have proved to be political opportunists. Now Nitesh has come back to support Modi and the BJP.
If you look at past history, one can realize the deep plan that was put into practice from the year 2014. The Congress party knew its days were over and they started a second option. The ball was set rolling by Amartya Sen. This man on his own has donned the mantle of a philosopher, encouraged by the Congress. Sen announced in one of his interviews before the 2014 national elections “I don’t want Modi as my PM”. The reason? Because he is not secular.
This was the beginning and the diatribe of Sen, was taken ahead by another Bengali writer Amitav Ghosh, He grandly announced that he would never vote for Modi. When asked as to what was his objection he also stated Modi was not secular
After Modi came to power, a bizarre game started by returning awards. Most of the men and women who returned the awards were actively involved in the 2014 national elections and had worked for Congress.
All efforts of this group to thwart the march of Modi failed and he on his own won 284 seats while the NDA won 334. Worse happened for the Gandhi family in 2019 when the BJP under Modi swept to power with an even bigger majority, winning 303 seats on its own steam
The campaign against Narendra Modi
Modi haters could not stand the “dethroning” of the Gandhi Dynasty and started an even more vicious campaign against Modi. They focussed on returning awards. The Award Wapasi was a political campaign by pro-Congress Filmmakers, film personalities, Historians, and some Scientists. The aim was simple; to destabilize the Modi government and its economic agenda
They started by attacking the CM's of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Cabinet Minister Sushma Swaraj, and this was followed by the vicious campaign on “Growing intolerance” in the country. It was brought out that Hindu Social groups like the RSS, VHP are creating fear among minority communities. These allegations were repeated ad nausea, merely with the idea of defaming the country. The Gandhi family devoid of power thought it a fit time to make a comeback bid.
This campaign was well supported by a group of writers who were on Congress payroll. These writers chose the electronic media and social sites to run down the Modi government as a failed and disappointing experience. In parliament, the Congress and its allies started a campaign to stall parliament and they succeeded as two full sessions were washed away.
The opposition leaders took up student Reith Vemula’s suicide in Hyderabad University, and JNU student’s arrest on anti-national activities on the campus. The background to stall the parliament was well prepared by the Gandhi family and their political associates from communist parties and others.
For three weeks, Congress, Communist parties, AAP, JDU, TMC, BSP harangued about a government reply to the ‘ atrocities’ in on Dalits and downtrodden. And when the NDA’s turn came to answer to the allegations of the Congress Party, the Congress and its allies like the Communist leaders chose to walk out. They did not want to listen to the government. They only wanted to create political chaos inside the parliament house and stall all business, but their seriousness was zero.
Last Word
It is a disgrace for parliamentary Democracy when the opposition demands answers from the government on serious political developments and makes serious allegations, demands resignations, apologies from ministers and Prime minister, and then chooses to walk out ???
This is unparliamentary behavior and extremely unbecoming for elected representatives of the nation. All this makes sad reading and one cannot escape the conclusion that Rahul Gandhi and Congress are not aware that they have been voted out of power and such action is not the best way to come back to power.
We must remember that the enemy resides inside India and the snake is the one that calls for action against ‘intolerance”.
The wheel has turned full circle and sadly for the Gandhi clan, Modi won the election in 2019 by an even bigger margin. The opponents were completely nonplussed and decided to start an agitation on the Citizens bill and money from abroad and the Congress was channeled for this. The Modi government will weather this storm created by the Gandhi family and in all likelihood, these leaders may have signed their political obituary.
Matters have worsened as a case of corruption has been filed against the mother-son duo and is heard in a special court regarding corruption charges in the National Herald case.
One can't help feeling that the last five years of dynastic rule 2009 to 14 was the Waterloo for them as they allowed corruption to become a byword and the state exchequer was looted of almost $10 billion. The Gandhi family will now have to work harder to convince the Indian people and that is not an easy task as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has seized opportunity and become the number one leader in India after Pandit Nehru.
