Introduction

The main theme of the speech was a positive American agenda and a reafirmation of our values and what America stands for. It was a speech that no American should disagree with or be critical of. And yet, we see a whole party taking politics above all else and acting disrespectful of the office and of the setting. This is the hall of Congress and it is the people’s house. What a disgraceful showing.

An Experiment...

Here is my conjecture regarding those who may dislike this speech because they just don’t like anything Trump.

Suppose you take the text of the speech and make one small change. Instead of Trump as the speaker, put Reagan as the author or any other President.

My guess is the speech will be well received and praised.

Talking about fake news, here is a video of some student’s reaction to the STOU speech. It is hillarious and sad at the same time.

An Observation...

Here is a personal observation on the state of affairs in our country. It is just two data points. In 2016, I did not vote for Trump or Hillary. A close relative voted for Trump. Now a year later, I have shifted my views on Trump and think he is doing a great job upholding his promises and fighting the entrenched Washington insiders of both party. He has had limited success in draining the swamp.

In my relative’s case, she has moved completely opposite to my views. She has bought into the narrative that the main street media has been pushing for the past year. She is now anti-Trump all the way. She thinks Trump is a racist and a liar and an embarassment and that our country‘s standing in the world stage has been diminished by Trump. She can’t wait to get him out.

Who is right?

My word of caution to all those people who have exhibited TDS, Trump Derangement Syndrome. What if you are wrong? Somethings cannot be walked back.

Summary

President Trump had a good year and a good start. He will make America great again as he promised. We the citizens are the beneficiaries. We are better off financially, and more respected as a nation. Our military is being rebuild and our government is being downsized. We are a net producer of energy. All good to follow.
