Urgent Hiring: Filipino With Strong Sense of Urgency

Updated on June 19, 2023

We, Filipinos, are very familiar with the Mañana Habit. It is something that Filipinos have adopted from the Spaniards. The word Mañana means tomorrow or a specified future time. This can also be referred to as "procrastination" in English and "mamaya na" in Tagalog.

Mañana habit is a behavior wherein you have something to attend to yet you tend to do it at a later time. Task delaying, more often than not, ends up with zero result. Now... you will then convince yourself (other people as well) that you will do it tomorrow. When tomorrow comes, the same cycle begins again.

Do not gamble on the future, act now! What Filipinos must learn is how to move forward aiming for continuous improvement. However, this goal will only be achieved by committing to self transformation even if it entails a painful process. Take for a sample a cancer patient who is willing to undergo a painful and uncomfortable chemotherapy to get back on a healthy track.

Bad traits must be left behind and good ones must be adopted. Filipinos must embrace and promote positive virtues such as hard work, honesty, integrity, fairness, accountability, passion for excellence and sense of urgency.

Do You Have A Sense Of Urgency?

See results

The foremost trait that is badly-needed by Filipinos is a strong sense of urgency. Adopting a sense of urgency would cure the many ills of the Philippine nation. A lack of urgency is evident in the hundreds of thousands of pending cases in the courts waiting to be resolved for how many years no one knows of. The Philippine nation must not settle to accept this as a fact in life. We must not permit this to be integrated to our culture and must not let it define our nation. Filipinos must aim for change.

Sense of urgency is not about trading off effectiveness for efficiency. Sense of urgency is about being result-oriented which is to be measured both in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. What is efficiency if there is no due process and no generation of excellent output? Sense of urgency must be founded out of positive virtue of hard work, industriousness, integrity, honesty, fairness, transparency, accountability and passion for excellence.
