Stop Foreign Aid ~ Focus on Home Aid!

The USA REFUSES to Take Care of it's Own People!

I'm tired of it! Look at any news reported story on the internet relating to food stamps, WIC, Family Independence (also known as welfare), Housing Assistance, illegal immigrants, or just about anything with the word "free" in it. Then look at the comments.

People are ugly and hateful. Here are a few quotes directly from my facebook feed this morning.

"Food stamps/welfare was designed to "help" Americans who fell upon hard times, NOT for millions of illegal invaders or lazy - able bodied folks with their hands out"

"Want food? Work for it, i don't care if it takes 8 hours WORK! That's how people ate back then, its how you will eat now."

These are the comments directed at Americans from Americans. We have so many people who are against helping people here. These same people often post Facebook memes implying those who get welfare are lazy worthless people, yet I never see these people posting about all the money that goes on foreign aid.

Should we stop foreign aid?

American Statistics

Amount budgeted for foreign aid by our USA government, 50 BILLION a year! All while we struggle with these statistics with our own people.

  • An estimated 565,000 homeless people in the USA
  • 50,000 of the homeless are Veterans
  • 200,000 are estimated to be families with children
  • 1 in 7 Americans struggle to have enough food each day
  • 200,000 foster children age out of foster care each decade with no support
  • 40% of those aged out foster children will become homeless
  • The number of people not getting proper medical care can't even be tracked
  • 46,000,000 people get Food Stamps/SNAP/EBT

Source

What Can Be Done to Help Americans

The United States of America sends out 50 BILLION a year in different types of foreign aid each year. So lets look at the statistics above and see what could be done to help those here. Lets say we chose to help each one of those statistics each year until they have all been helped.

  • Take the 565,000 homeless people. The first year each of those people could be offered $88,000 in resources. In my part of the country $88,000 could buy a small decent house and a car. This way they would have a roof that is paid for and a car to look for work so that they can maintain that house and its utilities.
  • Now for all those getting Food Stamps, we could spend almost $1100 on each of them. That would be multiple thousands in most homes since the number of people getting assistance includes the children of the parents getting it. With that money the government could help these families with whatever struggle is keeping them from being able to afford their own food. It could be money to get a vehicle so they don't have to work in fast food. It could be money to help them get a month ahead on their house payment so they can go back to college part time. It could be a retainer fee to help them with a lawyer to speed up the disability process. So say my family of 5 got EBT. Our family would get $5500 that year. That would be enough to pay the average rent in my area for 10 months.
  • Next we could help the 200,000 aged out foster children each decade. That would be $250,000 per foster child that the government FAILED TO FIND A PERMANENT HOME FOR! $250,000 is enough in my area to pay for a local college for 4 years, buy a small home, and pay for a vehicle so they could work and not become the majority statistic for foster children.

See how this could work? Instead of complaining about helping our own, we could instead complain about helping other countries and help our own people get ahead.

Abuse of Assistance in the USA

Some will say that people will abuse the system. To those people I implore you to think about how much abuse there is in helping other countries. Do they really do what they are suppose to with the money? Does it really help if we have been handing that money to them and nothing has changed so we have to give the same countries more the following years?

Will Americans still cheat the system? Of course!! There are bad people everywhere! So to think you'd rather help other countries than help the people here is bizarre!

This is not a debate on immigration. This is a debate on helping those close to home before shipping money all over the world.

Think about what 50 BILLION dollars could do for our children, our veterans, our homeless, OUR PEOPLE!!!

Yes, we are one world and should help everyone if we can. However we can't help the world if we cant even help ourselves! One step at a time we could become better. Instead we choose to continue supporting the world while we let our own people starve while screaming "they're lazy". Seems a bit backwards if you ask me! Let's fix us so that we can all help fix the rest of the world that needs help!

Wow, a lot was said while I was away! Fun! I hope you are all having a wonderful day. If you decide to debate some more I will not be on much to approve, but I think this might be set to where I don't have to approve? The button still pops up, but you can see each other post so I guess I am not needed! My pup had a stroke last night. So more important issues for most of the day. :(

And you use the past tense of choose....."chose?"....change that too. It's all important because spelling, grammar & punctuation all counts. In a few places, you wrote the same word twice. Be careful amigo.....check, check and recheck your work before you publish!! You'll be just fine buddy!

Just go back over it. I'm sure you'll find all the many errors.

Really?? Now how on earth could I be picking on you when there's no way possible for me to KNOW you might have a spare tire?? Impossible. Maybe I was simply being comical or silly. You don't laugh much do you. Sorry

You mustn't degrade yourself like that....nerds are great people. I'm actually a nerd and I wear glasses to read! I don't think you really have braces at your age.

I am a fervent dog lover. Never, would I harm a precious animal! Why does your dog have a cone over his head? Did the poor baby have surgery? I hope he gets better quickly!

Are you a kid? Thanks for thinking I'm cool but I haven't

been a kid for a really long time. I am young-at-heart though! Maybe we can have a play date !! Later Billy. You are so much fun.

Maybe us fat nerds with glasses and braces who are socially awkward cannot keep up with the cool kids like you, but at least we have peace of mind.

There's our Wild Bill......You're so sexy when you use that authoritative attitude. I'll give it some thought~but very little~OK, truth is, save your advice honey.

I am who I am, always have been & always will be because the reality is, who & what I am has been most successful for me & all those in my life.

Thank you ever so kindly Mr. Bill for granting me your sacred permission to do what I choose, what I can do, intend to do & shall do, without your permission. But I do appreciate the gesture. You're so damned cute! If only I knew how to find you, you elusive little butterfly you. I would run to your arms. Well, maybe not run~~I have a bad ankle at the moment. And maybe not your arms, probably just your spare tire. I love bouncing!!

Suffice it say you're in my thoughts, more than you can even imagine................................

Wild Bill....I must say you live up to your pseudonym. You are one wild guy. It's quite amusing to observe your sweet fantasy of being some generic version of a Super Hero. We all applaud you, among other things. What would kids do without Superman?

Frankly, what is even more "important" is that you ASSUME moderators are "unbiased." Thank you for the touch of humor! (Oh and before you go running to Mommy & Daddy, they're most aware of my opinion. I've been honest with them and TOLD them) But since you get off on being a mole, do whatever flips your cork, sweet man. Far be it from me to try to stifle your only joy in life. You should join HP. If you really crave attention and kudos, you know there's the annual Hubbie Awards. Sadly, at the present time, there is not one for community troll/snitch, but we'll establish one I'm sure, just for you.

Sir, take this to the bank. I'm continually in awe of my own brilliance. I am so very sorry that you do not feel the same about yourself. Look, poor self-esteem can be repaired. A good start is to come out from behind the mask, fold up your super hero cape and just be a real human being. Who knows, you may find a real strong, brave man of substance underneath the ruins. I'll keep hoping for you.

"I think only then will you realize how wrong you have been." Wow, such a moving~ almost musical statement. I see you write songs too. No end to your talents! There's a song written by a soldier in 1945~not real famous, but very powerful. It's in response to a ludicrous statement made by our enemies about "winning the war."....I remember the chorus best.....catchy little tune... "Not a snowball's chance in hell, Baby!" Enjoy your daily activities, wild guy! BIG hugs, PAULA !!

      Paula,

We all justify the reasons we do things. You say I am a snitch, I say I am standing up to bullies. In our own minds we are right and the other person is wrong. But just remember the most important thing; the moderators, who are unbiased, sided with me, so maybe you should take a long look in the mirror and really think about the way you acted. I think only then will you realize how wrong you have been.

Hey girl, HP did NOT delete any comments at all in that thread. They were up & visible until very early this morning when I myself deleted the entire group of comments to & from K&T (which I had stated to K&T & everyone else I fully intended to do!)

Wild bill for his own personal reasons, seems to be on a mission to "avenge" anyone he chooses in an effort to heal his past wounds from those he could not or simply did not stand up to at the time. I wish him luck in his plight to be his own late-blooming hero. Bless his oh-so-pure heart.

As most people know, it can be foolish & unwarranted to barge into a situation when all facts & all individuals are not known. In his travels throughout OUR community, searching for people to attack, apparently he misses a great deal. He justifies this of course because he's just not done giving all those bullies from his past the punishment he feels they deserve.

"Transference" is alive and well. I'm very experienced in dealing with it and again, can only hope he finds fulfillment.

However, he may wish to fully understand that Wild Bill is not, has never been and cannot be a Universal Judge, jury & executioner.

Yes, he IS a snitch. No other word for it. No one "likes" rudeness, but quite logically, often humans must have a taste of their own poison in order to know the error of THEIR ways. If he actually thinks he does not display blatant rudeness, he is delusional.

Thanks Ann for being who you are. I respect you immensely, but you already knew this. See you in the neighborhoods. Peace, Paula

Granted, I haven't seen a ton of what K & T has said, but I have never seen her call anyone names or make a personal attack. Now, does she say some off the wall stuff? Yes, but I don't think, in that moment, that she deserved to be personally attacked the way she did. What made it worse was the several people joining in and ganging up on her. That brought back some bad memories for me, so I reported it and the moderators must have agreed with me.

I have also seen Austinstar say some unbelievably rude things for which I reported her and got her questions deleted. It is not that I am a snitch, but I just don't like rude people. Keep in mind that I do not have the power to ban or flag anyone; only HP moderators do. If what I am doing is wrong, then they can take care of that.

Thank you for keeping the discussion civil. I am glad to hear you and your family are in better circumstances. I hope it always continues to be so.

Yes, the conversation had died down, but unlike some, I was not online at the time of the conversation because I was busy being a parent.

I'm glad you have read so much that you know so much about about me. Though most of that info is very outdated since hubby has been back to work for 2 years.

I don't believe I said anything negative really about you, since I don't know you. I simply asked a straight forward question, do you actually read articles and contribute or not? Apparently you do actually read articles instead of just starting something. Great. I'm glad, and I am thankful for any reader who takes time to read anything written on one of my 3 profiles. I did not argue at all, simply stated my opinion on the situation.

Saying that we bully K & T is like saying someone who has actually been bullied repeatedly is the bad guy simply for finally sticking up for themselves. K & T has started crap over and over again with MANY hubbers.

For the record, I never said you were a bad guy. However for you to take the side of someone who constantly starts drama is a bit confusing to me.

Sorry I had to come here and comment, but Randy would not let me respond.

First, I did not come to HP to troll. I came here to read. What I saw was someone, who is different, getting picked on by a bunch of people. It was as though you guys sensed her weakness and decided to have some fun at someone else's expense. I know how this feels and it isn't fun when the cool kids treat you differently.

I did not flag Paula, I only reported her. HP saw that her actions were disgusting and chose to eliminate the entire conversation. Because of your actions, someone got their feelings hurt. Because of mine, someone is able to have a better experience, so who is really the bad guy?

You say this is only a site for writers, but that is not true; it is for readers , which is what I am. We are the ones that bring traffic in from the outside, so all of the writers here should be grateful instead of rude to us.

I have been coming here long enough to know a little about you. I know you have had a few profiles, I know you have been abused, I know your husband has been out of work, and I know your family has been homeless.

You accused me of being a troll, but the fact is that the conversation had died down until you decided to bring it back. Maybe you like to argue? I don't know, but I find it a bit ironic.

Michaela Osiecki I missed your comment somehow. My apologies! I agree. When I was in my early 20's I had food assistance and medical assistance. They ask a ton of questions. It's tough to lie, especially when it comes to working because they have a system (at least in my state) where employers put their employees names into a database. Then the DSS can pull that up and see if you have a job anywhere and how much you earn. Very true about China!

Cfin, Wow. I had no idea about Ireland. That would never happen here. People are too set in their ways about not helping people, and the media has helped spread so much misinformation about abuse of the system that people don't like public assistance.

People want others to help themselves, but they fail to realize it costs money to help themselves. Gas to get to interviews, public computers, food, interview clothing, etc. It becomes even harder for someone to help themselves after they become homeless. Housing assistance in many areas takes years to get into. The whole system is screwed up. We are so busy bossing other countries around and telling them how they should be treating their people, while we let our own people struggle and starve. It is senseless!

      Thanks for the comments!

Ireland also spends a lot on foreign aid and has domestic issues like everyone else. Regarding the U.S, it's a country that also exploits much of the world, has caused countless wars and is providing aid to the victims of those wars. That is not everyone as the title states.

Having lived in the US for 5 years, and having chosen to leave, I do fail to understand how social programs there are so insufficient. Unemployment ends after a number of months and the definition of poverty in the state I lives is so low, that it borders on third world. In Ireland, we have had issues in the past few years, but the government hands out ridiculous amounts to people. The minimum a family a family of 4, with one parent working 20 hours a week on minimum wage can possible earn is Eur2,186.66 per month ($2,450.00). That's not including rent allowance, medical care (free medical care), fuel allowance, clothing and footwear allowance etc etc.

      20 hours at 9.10 per hour = 182

FIS cut off = 612. Difference between 612-182 = 430. Take 60% of this and this is the social payment they receive weekly = 258 + income at 182 = . Multiply out by 52 and divide by 12 = 1906.66 per month

Add in childrens allowance for 2 kids at 280 monthly = 2,186.66 guaranteed minimum for a family of 4 per month with one parent working 20 hours.

If little old Ireland, one country on its own, can achieve this, I don't understand why 50 states can't. Especially when brining down public debt from 128% of gdp to 93% of gpd in the space of 5 years. And this is AFTER cutting social programmes. Get the thumb out U.S/

    • Michaela Osiecki profile image

As someone who grew up in the welfare system, I can say with absolute certainty that it is VERY HARD to cheat that system. Because if you want help with food stamps - you have to work so many hours a week to qualify BUT make under a certain amount each pay period. If you want help with health insurance - you have to list ALL your assets, ALL your accounts, and your medical history. If you want cash assistance (which is SUPER temporary) you have go through pages on pages of paperwork to even qualify. Most of these programs have a time limit too, you don't get this stuff indefinitely.

And why don't counties have enough money to help people that really need it? Because the federal gov't. was dumb enough to ask other nations for bailout money and now they owe billions of dollars to places like China. Oops.

I agree with you 100% Jackie. It is a sad situation. Too many of our own hurting. It would be like a homeless poor person giving all their possessions to a rich person. Just doesn't make sense!

    • Jackie Lynnley profile image

Jackie Lynnley 19 months ago from The Beautiful South

It is the homeless and others who have been given a hard time by our government that makes me mad about illegal immigrants and the giving to all these countries who probably need it less than us.

Our government is making it harder for us to help the homeless putting big charges on those who try to feed them and now they are wanting to (if they aren't already doing it) haul all the homeless in cities to the country, where there are no trash cans and of course they don't want them to have a gun to hunt.

There are many circumstances too like a brother-in-law of mine who had cancer from the time he was a young man and because he would beat every kind eventually they would not help him when he got down and could not work and tat is so wrong and he did finally die from the last one.

Our government should not be in control of any financing or decide who gets help and who doesn't. They are all crooks and crooks don't give a damn.
