What Would Mitt Romney Have Done to Us Had He Bought the 2012 Election?

Updated on June 14, 2020

What else did Mr. Romney plan to get rid of, had he won the election. March 14, 2012

What else did he plan to get rid of? March 14, 2012

Planned Parenthood (Title 10, at one time he sought their endorsement.)

Affordable Healthcare (i.e. what he calls Obama Care) Now Romney and the republicans have the Supreme Court presiding over whether Affordable Healthcare is constitutional or not. The same people who said the elected President in 2008, was not the President they wanted in the White House.

Romney thinks that only the people of Massachusetts deserve affordable health care, and he thinks the rest of the country should pay private insurers their last dime for unaffordable health care or just evaporate.

Here is a good example of how The Affordable Health Care Act will affect people, taxwise,

By Travis Waldron on Jun 28, 2012 at 12:30 pm

"The mandate can indeed be characterized as a tax, as the Court found. But it is not a massive tax hike on the middle class, much less the biggest tax hike in American history. The tax imposed by the individual mandate amounts to either $695 or 2.5 percent of household income for those who don’t have insurance and are not exempt based on income levels. By comparison, the payroll tax cut extension Republicans repeatedly blocked earlier this year would have added 3.1 percentage points to the tax and cost the average family $1,500 a year.

The mandate, meanwhile, would hit a small amount of Americans — somewhere between 2 and 5 percent — according to a study from the Urban Institute. The number could be even lower depending on the law’s success: in Massachusetts, the only state with an insurance mandate, less than 1 percent of the state’s residents paid the penalty in 2009.(I guess the Mr. Romney forgot that)

The majority of the Affordable Care Act’s other taxes, such as a payroll tax increase and a tax on high-cost health plans, are aimed at upper-income Americans. In exchange, millions of jobs will be created as new people enter the health care system and millions of people will gain access to affordable, quality insurance that they otherwise would not have. And, as we detailed earlier today, the Court’s decision to uphold the entirety of the law will have significant benefits for the nation’s economy."

The full effect of the Affordable Care Act will NOT become fully active until 2014.

The Affordable Care Act upheld by the United States Supreme Court -- June 28th, 2012

The string pullers are depending on Romney to take away all that the American people have gained. Can you afford to have your health limited to only when you are healthy, or taken away completely??

I could only imagine what Mr. Romney would have done away with.

In spite of what Mr. Romney would have done to us, (the poor and middle class) I doubt he would have been worse than the man in the White House right now.

Did you think you were exempt because you are a republican?

Do you really think that Romney is going to keep your tax where they are now? The only people who are getting a new tax break are the wealthy!

Do you think Romney is only going to raise tax on the democrats? Do you think you are EXEMPT because you are a republican? Not if you are not filthy rich and powerful.

The handlers for Romney and the republican's LUST FOR POWER and LOVE OF MONEY plan to destroy anything or anybody in their path, and they are ready to take up the shovel and dig out the dirt from the hole President Obama has been filling and, continue to dig from where "W" left off.

The holy hypocrite - Mitt Romney ex-posed: the great flip flops

Still Voting for Mitt Romney

Do you know what entities make up our government?

Our Military, Service men and women: Army, Navy, Marines and, Coast Guard.

Romney wants to cut service personnel, their pay, their health care, and their pensions.

Who does he want to replace these military personnel with? Halliburton maybe?

United States Post Office: This government entity - supports itself.Romney wants to privatize the USPO. What entity would this be privatized to?

Fire Fighters: They are union workers. That is why Romney wants to lay them off.

Police Officers:They are also union workers, and one branch of the government.

Teachers: Teachers are also union worker, by getting rid of public education, republicans can eliminate the teachers union.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):Do you think Romney cares if we have clean air or, clean water?

Social Security: Social Security is paid for by "FICA" which is handled by the government, not paid for by the government. When Ronald Reagan was in office 1981-1989 could not abolish it he put a tax on Social Security.

Medicare: Romney/republicans want to reform Medicare (i.e. end Medicare as we know it). Every worker pays into Medicare, Social Security and Medicade through (FICA) payroll tax, but the republicans could take the FICA tax to pay for more tax breaks for the already wealthy.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA): FEMA, became an agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security, by Democratic President James Earl Carter (1977 -1981), by Presidential Reorganization Plan No. 3 of 1978 and implemented, by two (2) Executive Orders, April 1, 1979. (And, that was no April fool's, joke.)

Could that be the reason that Romney and the republicans wants to end FEMA, because the President at that time was Carter, the president republicans like to call a 'wimp'?

Do you know the purpose of FEMA? FEMA responds to and supports disaster recovery that occurred in the United States and its territories' where a state of emergency has been declared and, formal request from the president that FEMA and the federal government respond.

Eric Canter, of Virginia wants to end FEMA, but he wants to make sure FEMA provides aid his territory before it ends.

Education: I would do away with education, Rick Perry said, in a debate!

(My words: At least for the poor & middle class)

Who does have lobbyists running their campaign by that definition?

An age old ruse! April 2nd 2012

An age old Ruse!

Do you think Romney will stop lying if he becomes president?

In 1994 Mitt Romney while Running for office called blind trusts "an age old ruse."

April 4th 2012, 18 years later I guess ruse does not mean the same thing it did when Romney first used the word, at least to Romney.

Per Encarta Dictionary, ruse: something done to deceive others!

At the end of this video there is a question, "If you can't trust Mitt Romney with the facts, how can we trust him to beat Barack Obama?

I thought to myself, 'I hope they are right, and the GOP can't depend on Romney to beat President Obama.'

And then I got a taste of reality! June 5, 2012. How did Scott Walker of Wisconsin, get people to vote against their-own self interest? Naiveté, ignorance, "WHAT", maybe apathy? Democratics are so apathetic (i.e. indifferent) they just may stay home instead of voting.

Is it like being in an abusive relationship, the more you get abused the more you choose to stay in that relationship?

How proud Wisconsinites must be that they saved the dragon slayer, I mean union slayer, to help other governors slay their unions and, destroy public education for poor and middle class.

Mr. Romney said, "we will win the White House."

No Mr. Romney, you will not win the White House! But, your Cabal, may buy it.

I heard Rachel of MSNBC say that the republicans can't buy our votes. No?

Rachel is right, they can't buy mine, but they may buy enough votes to purchase the White House seat

Romney wanted to privatize public schools. How did it work out for Bobby Jindal?

Public schools:

Romney wanted to privatize Public Schools. If he can close public schools and have children go to a private school with vouchers, this would eliminates union teachers. The private/privatized schools could charge whatever they want for tuition or deny students whom they consider unfit to go to their school.

In other words give the kids that Romney/republicans looks down on, vouchers to go to any school they want to. But what if that school does not want them?

What is the purpose of the voucher system? BREAKING THE UNIONS, the privatized schools do not have to hire union teachers. The down side is the private/privatized schools do not have to accept the public school children.

Romney announces 'unprecedented' education reforms [5-23-2012]

No More public schools in Louisiana?

No more public schools in Louisiana???

The Louisiana governor, Bobby Jindal has closed the public schools in favor of private schools.

For the coming school year, at least this year . . . children will get a voucher to pay for the school they wish to attend.

That is one way to break the teachers Unions, and fire those greedy teachers, who dare to request competitive wages.

What if the PRIVATE school of choice will not accept the public school children? What if they don't want children who are not as smart as they think they should be that they consider 'not as good' or LOWER CLASS than the wealthy children, for whatever reason and the public schools have been abolished. Where do these children go to learn?

What happens when the private school children's parents say "why do the public school children get a voucher to a private school and, I have to pay for my child/children to go to the same school?"

What does this mean to union teachers? Are all public school teachers laid-off?

Has the covid-19 shutdown shown Mr. Romney what it will be like without public schools?

From Bush Tatics to Fast and Furious

Fast and Furious Started Under Bush

By Jack Tapper/Political Punch

Tapper questions Jay Carney, White House Press Secretary.

Tapper: The documents being blocked through executive privilege, are nay of them to or from individuals in the White House, or are they all internal DOJ documents?

Carney: I don't have a way to characterize the documents in question here. I can tell you that long ago the administration provided documentation about specific questions regarding officials at the White House and the national security staff. That was a long time ago, again -- and which speaks to -- it was last fall -- speaks to how prolonged this political investigation has been ongoing.

The point I made earlier is that this is an assertion based on the absolute need for the President, as steward of the executive branch -- not just for his administration but for every administration going forward -- to retain the separation of powers, to protedt the capacity of the executive branch, to deliberate on the matters and to work independently and appropriately in response to these kind of inquires.

The issue here has been the operation known as Fast and Furious. And that operation is being thoroughly investigated by the inspector general, who has access to all these documents, including the ones that you're asking about. And when it comes to the operation itself, everything has been provided to congressional investigators. And that is really the issues, isn't it? It is, how did this operation come about? It originated in a field office during the previous administration. It was ended under this administration by this attorney general.

My Understanding of the Tactics Leading up to Fast and Furious

Attorney General Holder, could have kept quiet about Florida's suppression of the vote, but he didn't. So special interest groups and their Republicans went looking for ways to stop the Attorney General from interfering with disenfranchising voters and, they only had to go back to the bush adiminstration and, they found the tactics leading up to Fast and Furious

My understanding is the tactics leading up to Fast and Furious began under George W. Bush and Alberto Gonzalez and when Attorney General Holder discovered the tactics and believe them to be flawed; he then referred it to an inspector general. Now the republican congress wants this attorney general to turn over 'classified information'. Why?

Does the republican party want these documents on top of the 7,600 already provided?

Does congress want the documents to do a 'cover-up' of the wrong doing by the previous administration? What would they do with the documents, destroy them, maybe to blame the President for the Bush tactics?

We all know that the only goal of the republican party is to undermine the democratic party in general and President Obama in particular?

What?? What is the Obama Administration Hiding from?

Rep. Darrell Issa Admits There Is No Evidence Connecting White House To Fast & Furious Scandal

Congressman Darrell Issa is leading the investigation into the Fast & Furious ATF scandal and his committee recommended Attorney General Eric Holder for contempt charges, but he admitted to Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday today that so far, there is no evidence connecting the scandal directly to the White House and Obama administration.

Wallace played a clip of House Speaker John Boehner saying that the invocation of executive privilege is “an admission” of guilt on the part of the White House. Wallace asked Issa directly if “any evidence” currently supports the claim that White House officials were at all involved with the operation or a cover-up of any kind.

Wow! whoever pulled Derrell Issa's string must have really put a choke-hold on him.

Do you know the meaning of Grafter???

1. Unscrupulous use of one's position to derive profit or advantages; extortion;

2. Money or an advantage gained or yielded by unscrupulous means.

3. To gain by or practice unscrupulous use of one's position

Holder Vote: The Evil Motivation Behind Rep. Darrell Issa's 'Fast & Furious' Investigation

Darrell Issa LIED: White House Isn't Covering Up Anything In Fast & Furious

Be Careful What You Vote For

Be careful what you vote for, you just might get it.

Always remember: You can fool some of the people all the time.

And all the people some of the time.

But you can not fool all the people all of the time!

Romney still looks pretty good compared to Trump, and thankfully Trump is out of office. I know he's still causing all kinds of problems anyway, because so many of the Republicans are addicted to the sweat on his jewels. Elected Republicans, not just supporters.

Trump will be 78 years old when the next presidential election comes along. I know Biden is 78 right now, but I think Biden takes better care of himself. Biden has been videoed running, while Trump has trouble walking down a ramp whilst holding a General's hand.

Hope things continue to improve and that Biden stops bothering with this bipartisan stuff. Republicans, especially Mitch McConnell have made it clear they are only going to obstruct anything Biden tries to do, so why waste time on Republicans?

Blessings, dear friend. Hope all is well with you and yours and stays that way . . .

I don't believe Romney would have done any of the terrible things Trump has done. He might not have been the ideal president, but I doubt he would have been the worst president in U.S. history, as Trump is. Posting this to FB & AH.

I don't know what Romney would have done to us, but it couldn't have been worse than what has been happening for the last 2.5 years under Trump. Trump is destroying this country. I hope he is removed by some means before it's too late.

As terrible as Romney treated the family dog, I believe Trump would have treated it worse. He cares nothing for anyone but himself. He should be in the Guinness Book of records for being the oldest imbecile in the U.S. and possibly the world.

Clearly the Republicans are the most corrupt organization in the country, but I have to wonder how many Democrats are enabling, and possibly even participating in this sell out of the U.S.

The Founding Fathers must be turning in their graves to see how corrupt out government has become.

Hope all is well with you, dear friend.

Au fait, thank you for your comments and everything you do, you are appreciated.

It is a real shame that mr. trump has no compassion for anyone.

I thought that it real interesting that rumney was delighted when trump summoned him and went running with his tail between his legs thinking he will become a part of the trump cabal only to be ignored, he would have bowed to king trump. They are birds of a feather.

Hope all is well with you, Blessings dear friend

Heard just last week that Trump rolled back the Obama edict that made it possible for clients of nursing homes and other places who care for elderly and disabled to sue the providers when they are abused. Trump says abused clients of these providers CAN NOT SUE and must quietly take the abuse like good girls and boys without complaint. Every time I think I know what an asshole Trump is he gets worse.

There's an article about it in the NYT and also NPR:

I don't think Romney would have done such a terrible thing to our elders had he been elected.

Hope all is the best it can be for you and John. Blessings. Take care . . .

Both moore and trump are birds of a feather that tells you what kind of GOP is in power and trump brought his own mafia into the White House.

Don't know why people not only approve of assaulting women they also approve of treason.

No, Romney wouldn't have been so addicted to Twitter. Being a Republican he would likely still have cut food stamps and other programs for the poor, including veterans, babies/children, and elders. Republicans seem to have no capacity for compassion for anyone or anything, so in that respect there's little difference between Romney and Trump, or any other Republican. They're really all the same.

Read just today that Trump is allowing big game hunting trophies from lions and elephants that were previously illegal to sell here, into the U.S. The man needs a brain transplant. To be honest -- and blunt -- chickens have more common sense and try harder to learn and understand.

Given that we have a sitting president that has confessed to worse things than Weinstein has been accused of, it doesn't seem fair to be so hard on some guys while letting the others off completely. Roy Moore seems to have more in common with Trump since Trump raped a 13-year old, and Roy has been accused of molesting, fondling, and I think, assaulting girls as young as 14.

We certainly have a lot of top notch people in charge of things nowadays with the Republicans in power. Wonder, is the U.S. more like Sodom or Gomorrah? Together the Trump Administration, according to Trump's promise, make up "the best people."

Maybe we're lucky to have Putin in charge. Without him Trump and Bannon would be on their own and it would probably be even worse.

Hope all is going as well as possible there. Blessings dear friend . . .

Au fait, thank you so much for the comment. I am "almost" sure that Romney could not be worse than Trump, but you never know. I don't think Romney was/is the blabber mouth or twitter fanatic that trump is.

I just heard last night that President Obama requested permission from Congress to send troops into Syria and the 'do nothing Congress' did nothing, and at that time trump was saying it is their problem and the US should stay out of it. Then a couple of days ago trump sent troops into Syria "secretly" who knows if he even asked permission from the Congress. I think we are in deep doo doo as GWB would say.

I hope all is well with you and that you did not suffer from hail or water damage.

What Trump is doing to this planet and to the people on it is incomparable to any past president (except maybe Hoover) and I don't believe Romney would have been quite as bad. Unfortunately, we still don't know the depths to which Trump will stoop. Every time he does something horrendous we think we've seen his worst only to have him outdo himself in ignorance, hypocrisy, and cruelty.

Hope you got through all the hail and straight-line winds the last few days. Take care dear friend . . .

Au fait, thank you for the comment, I appreciate you, so much more than you know.

I believe you are absolutely right, we are headed for a rough ride. I read about Scott Pruitt, and Tom Price. Hubby got his Social Security statement Friday and his payout has been cut and the premium which is being taken out SS has been raised, starting in February, I have not received my statement yet.

Had Social Security been privatized during the Great Bank Heist, Hubby and I would be amongst the homeless, actually Hubby would not be here, we could not pay his medical bill or mine and we could not pay for our medication.

What would happen if trump resigned right now? If the EC is ethical they will vote for Hillary. I am sure that Pence is much worse (as if we could do worse) than trump.

Working outside, I was dressed for the outside work and it was still cold and not fun.

Blessings to you also my dear friend.

Think we're about to have worse things happen to us than if Romney were president. Look at the people Trump is putting in his cabinet for Secretary of the EPA (Scott Pruitt) and Education. Tom Price as H&HS secretary will destroy Medicare.

Have you seen the posters/bumper stickers with GW's face on them and the words, "Miss me yet?" on them? I think a lot of people would prefer GW to Trump. At least he didn't tweet embarrassing ignorant things anytime much less at 3 in the morning, and he didn't go around assigning numbers to women. Maybe in his head that he kept to himself, but he didn't verbalize them.

If Social Security had been privatized during the Great Bank Heist of 2008 more than 50% of homeless people would be over 50, as is the case today. Probably 80% (or more) would be over 70. Just as many people lost much or even all of their private pensions, even more would have lost the little safety net (SS) that they have.

I've heard that some the modern 'wise men' are predicting Trump will either lose the EC vote or resign because he doesn’t really want the job. I would prefer he not get the votes. I don’t think Pence would be an improvement.

Sorry you had to be working outdoors in this cold. Should start to warm up again for a few days. Take care dear friend. Blessings to you both.

Hi Shyron.....I'm here to say "Hello" and tell you that this is a fabulous hub. I'll say nothing about Mitt because I dislike the man intensely. I could never even listen to him nor watch him (I'd change the station immediately when he showed his face) If I disclosed how I feel about him, it would be X-rated so I'll pass.

The Republicans have proven TWICE now that they simply must not have a single human being in the entire party with all that it requires to become POTUS......This disgusts me to no end. I've always been registered Independent, quite simply because I vote for a PERSON, not a party. It's been a long time since I've felt really positive and supportive about any person we've had to choose from.

Pretty damned sad when we are forced to vote for the individual we dislike "less!!"........Peace, Paula

Romney doesn't have enough money to buy the election. He has less than Trump who couldn't afford to buy it either. I just heard that if Republicans get control of the White House and both houses, they are going after the ACA again. I don't think most people understand that ACA/Obamacare is not an insurance per se, it is regulations on greedy insurance companies who would charge outrageous premiums to eliminate people they don't want to insure or ban people with pre-existing conditions. We know that Republicans do not want any regulations on anything especially if it prevents them from price gouging.

I hope all is well with you.

With Jeb Bush getting into the ring, Romney may give it up. I think Republicans would prefer Jeb (so long as they don't find out he's an intellectual who likes to read) over Romney if it came down to it. Which one do you think has the advantage with their own party? I think Jeb would even be preferred by Independents.

Sharing. Hope you and John had a great start to the New Year and that the developer has decided to go home. Blessings.

Au fait, thank you so much for the comments, up votes, and sharing this.

Yes it does sound like Mitt is getting ready for another run for the office

he wants so badly, to do what he did to Bain Capital.

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, I have been in meetings with

      the developer.

He is such an evil person. About 35 people showed up for last night’s

meeting all opposed to what he wants to do to us. He claims he wants to help

us. I think he bought the Mayor and a couple of council members.

Also we are having toilet leaks and leaks under the sink, and our door

handle broke and we could not open the front door from the outside. We

could not find replacement parts, so John fixed it himself. I fixed the

toilet leak but it did not stay fixed. And tomorrow John will fix the sink and the toilet leak.

      Blessings to you dear friend.

Sounds like Mitt is giving serious thought to another run in 2016.

While this is not directly related, I think it is interesting given that Republicans are are having hissy fits over Obama's executive orders:

"Research by the Washington Post's Christopher Ingraham showing that President Obama has signed fewer executive orders per day in office than any president going back to Grover Cleveland," (Newsmax). Newsmax is a conservative site in anyone cares.

I would expect Romney to do to this country what he did to Bain Capital.

A well researched article and I would love to see more political articles by you. Voted up and IAU, and shared.

Hope all is well with you and John and that the grass isn't growing too fast with all the recent rain. Not enough rain for what we need, but enough to make that grass jump up! Take care . . .

Well, we may get the answer to your title question. I've read that the GOP may run Romney again. They ran Nixon twice, thank goodness. Trickie Dick made politics interesting. Without him there might never have been SNL. We are supposed to be positive and see the glass as half full, right? Nixon made for good comic fader even as he shamed this country. Maybe Romney will follow in his bigger than life footsteps . . .

It's a good time to re-read this hub and the factual comments (You go, Aunt Jimi!). Although the Republicans have done enough stupid things lately for thinking people to regard them like the plague they are, that's not enough if progressive Democrats don't make a huge showing at the mid-term Congressional election polls. We can't afford voter apathy in 2014. No, somebody else can't do it! You/I/We must do it!

As for the question in the title of your hub, Shyron....I can't even bear to think about it!

Well, it's been a while. Interesting to look back and to think about how things might have been different if we would have had another president who never has to deal with the real world and who can afford to insulate himself and his family from what is reality for most of us.

Thank you Au fait, I think the Republicans are just voting against President Obama. They wanted respect for "W" no matter what he did or how he screwed up, but they don't have respect for the Presidential Office or the President no matter what his accomplishments.

I guess that they can't take the fact that all the good the President does makes the Republicans look inept. And, the blocking of everything the President accomplishes and attemps makes them inept.

I'm afraid if Romney wins we'll be worse off than we were when Obama took over. It was pretty terrible back then.

What I don't understand is why people think Obama should be able to fix such a God awful mess in less than 4 years that took Bush at least 8 years to create! Clinton left things in pretty good shape for GW, but then look what happened!

I guess it's just the way the Conservatives show that they have way more confidence in Obama. I doubt they would have expected Bush to turn things around in less than 4 years after laboring to screw them up for 8 years. Then know in their hearts no Republican could fix things that quick, but apparently they believe Democrats can, so why do they vote for people like Bush in the first place?

I wonder, are Republicans voting for Romney because they really believe he can make things better, or is it that they're stuck with him and they support their Party right or wrong?

Thanks Au fait, you are right, but I just heard on TV this morning something that is so scary that it will make you sick to your stomach.

Romney was saying how he will appoint more Consertive Supreme Court Justices, that will overturn Roe v Wade. (Remember the appointment of "W".)

When "W" became president, he said "If America has a dictator it is going to be me".

When he ran for Governor he was pro-choice, then when he thought his political future was in Utah, he he was pro-life then when he went home he was pro-choice again, now he is pro-life. And, he just said he is getting rid of Planned Parenthood!

Whatever happens, don't blame me, I will NOT vote for Romney!

    • Au fait profile image

One thing Romney has 'hinted' at getting rid of more than once is part or most of the deduction many people take on their mortgage interest. The housing industry has never recovered from the 2008 crash and with no jobs, low wages when there are jobs and no incentive to buy a home for those people who can afford it, the housing industry has little hope of improving.

Frankly, I shudder to think how terrible things are going to get if the Republicans gain even more power, since they got us into this mess in the first place and have blocked everything Democrats have tried to do to make things better.

Just as when an entire class in school is failing reflects on the instructor, not the students, so many people unemployed and underemployed for so many years now is a reflection on government and big business, not on the individuals who can't find decent paying jobs -- or any jobs in many cases.

In the entire history of the United States no Republican has become president without winning Ohio. There are many people who do not vote. Part 2 Mr. Watkins . . .

Like so many people you love to throw big words around. I was born into a union state and my father and many other people I knew growing up belonged to a union. While some unions are dishonest and fail to support their members as they should, that same thing can be said of every kind of organization in existence.

Should we do away with all bakeries because a few of them put toxic ingredients into their products? How about doing away with all restaurants? Have you ever seen how filthy many of their kitchens are? Are you aware that many of their staff do not wash their hands after using the bathroom? Lots of bad things going on in restaurants. Let’s close them ALL down, shall we? Let’s not waste valuable time and money trying to determine which ones are the bad guys, lets just get rid of them all.

I know you Republicans love to talk about personal responsibility – for OTHER PEOPLE, not for yourselves. Our national debt was run up by creating a prescription drug plan that wasn’t paid for, AND by the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars that weren’t paid for costing billions of dollars monthly, but no Republican ever complains about their cost.

Finally, but not least, tax breaks to wealthy people (I call them moochers) have added to the national debt, and every one of these things happened under the Dumbya Administration. (Of course that’s a typo.)

I know you like to transfer the responsibility for your screw ups onto anyone else you can for all your big talk about personal responsibility, but I know better, and anyone who looks at the situation knows better too. The only people whose eyes you’re pulling the wool over are other Republicans. Maybe that’s why you’re so poorly informed yourself. Take the blindfold off.

In fact, we could all have Cadillac healthcare AND Food Stamps if we didn’t have to pay for all these wars and give all of the wealthy a free ride. What have the wealthy done to deserve a free ride? They made their money off the backs of the poor and working class people. They paid pitiful wages and no benefits in many cases, and then socked that money away in their own coffers. Then they sold their widgets made by workers to people at inflated prices and made still more off ordinary people who were just trying to make a living.

Next the wealthy required their workers barely able to get by on the measly wages they got to pay taxes to build roads so the wealthy could send their widgets to market.

Why you imagine the wealthy shouldn’t pay taxes is a mystery. You’re afraid if they’re taxed they’ll pick up and move to Brazil or Chile? So what? They’ve already moved their factories and investments to China and India, so why do they want to stay here? Since they’re not benefiting this country at all, and primarily a drain on the services here, why do you want them to stay? They’re glorified leaches. Not even vaguely paying their fair share at a time when this country is in desperate need of revenues.

But then why would the wealthy want to help this country when it was them, the billionaire bankers and their buddies who took this country down in the first place along with the economies around the world? Greed. Pure greed.

The robber barons are the people like the Koch Brothers who pay politicians to destroy unions so they can treat American workers the same way they treat Chinese and Indian workers. Without unions, workers have no rights in this country. I live in a “Right To Work” state and employers have ALL the rights.

I think anyone unwilling to join the available union in a company should not benefit from that unions hard work for its members. They should not receive union wages or benefits or protections. None. After working for less than half the wages of their union counterparts, none of the benefits, in horrible environmental conditions and being treated worse than vermin, they may just decide unions aren’t so bad.

The unions where I grew up were good unions and protected their members as is their duty. I know from personal experience how barbaric some employers can be and in too many cases ARE. Employers are often bullies that take away every scrap of a person’s self-respect and self-confidence and they’re not happy until they own even your thoughts. We need unions to look out for the employees, and employees who are or have been members of a good union would never want to work non-union if they had a choice.

      Part 1:

Mr. Watkins: Who is this mystery man you claim is promoting the slaughtering of babies?? I don’t like abortion one bit and I think abortions are ALWAYS WRONG. However, I do not think I should stand in judgment of other women whose shoes I am not standing in. I think most women do not choose abortion lightly, but for whatever reason they do so, it is their decision to make, and they must live with it.

I remember when abortion was not legal, and for that reason I would never want abortion to be illegal again. Horrific things happened when abortion was illegal. I think you should read the comment most recently left by someone I follow and whom I don’t always agree with, but whose opinion I respect. She left the comment on YOUR hub titled “The Truth About Abortions.”

Abortions are unfortunate, and that is an understatement, but so many parents do not want their children informed about sex and birth control, they are programming their children for unwanted pregnancies.

I tried to figure out why you raised the issue of abortion in your comments since Ms. Shenko does not discuss abortion at all in her hub. I decided it was because of the mention of Planned Parenthood. Lots of morons still imagine that the main purpose of Planned Parenthood is to perform abortions, when only 2-3% of what they do is related to abortions. Mostly they provide health screenings to poor women. Do you hate women Mr. Watkins? Is that why you want to make sure poor women do not get healthcare either through charity organizations like Planned Parenthood or the Affordable Healthcare Act popularly known as ObamaCare?

A lot of atheists are actually decent people who care about others, so what happened to you? Did your mother drop you on your head per chance? I respect you for not pretending to be a Christian AND a Republican, because truly, no person can be both.

Public schools should not be privatized no matter how stingy Republicans may be. The arguments Ms. Shenko makes against privatizing public schools are very good ones. Poor children should have access to education and you just know once we’ve moved to a voucher system the Scroogie Republicans will look for reasons to lower the value of the vouchers until they is nothing left – like they’re trying to do with Social Security and Medicare right now!

It’s true that public school isn’t doing a very good job teaching many of our children the basics, but I think if we applied your reasoning to the fire department or the police department we would see that you are mainly thinking of the taxes you hope to save by doing away with public education.

If we were to end every government program that is failing, we would indeed have to do away with the police and fire departments. You see, after decades upon decades, they have not yet ended crime or fire or other emergencies. They are failing miserably at what they do. Should we stop funding these entities too?

Just as the police and fire departments continue to try to improve the way they do their jobs, I think it makes sense for public schools and teachers to do the same. We need to make certain that education is ALWAYS available to the poorest of our citizens even if the mean spirited among us can’t sleep at night knowing they are helping to pay for educating other people’s children.

Without an education children have little choice but to get into a life of crime because they have no education or skills to do otherwise. I know you probably wouldn’t care if one of the less educated knocked your grandmother over the head and stole her purse in order to survive, but imagine if it were your own head and your own wallet stolen instead. That’s a different story eh?

      Prisons cost more than schools.

I am a child of God, but that does not make me a Lord over women's health issues.

My personal views, A man who has never gotten pregnant/ been raped should not have the right to say that a woman can't have an abortion under any circumstance. No man should have a say in women's health issues.

I do not believe in abortion, and could have had one with my first born, and declined. But I would never question anyone else for their decision.

I am surprised at this Hub after reading your profile page. I am surprised that a "child of god" would ever even consider voting for a man or a party that not only favors slaughtering babies but considers it some kind of badge of honor for women.

Schools should be privatized. Do you think they are working well? Please. We spend twice as much in constant dollars as 30 years ago and the kids come out dumber.

Unions might be OK for private business—though I favor a national Right to Work Law because after all if you don't have a Right to Work what rights do you have? You should not have to join a union to attain employment. Unions are a Communist idea anyway. It was Karl Marx who said "Unions are our first step to Communism. Workers of the world unite!" But public employees should not have unions at all. The fact they do is only a scam to take billions out of their paychecks and funnel the money to progressive politicians who pay them back by outlandish contracts with impossible pension payouts that won't come due til the politican is dead. Unions are supposed to fight the Robber Barons. Who is the Robber Baron a public employee union is against? Me? You? Your neighbors tring to get by?

We are sixteen trillion dollars in debt. You could spend a thousand dollars a day for 35,000 years and never get to a trillion. America will cease to be unless this is cut in half and soon. We are talking about survival here. This is serious. Thank you.

I don't know if you will read any of the Affordable Healthcare Act, that is now LAW, but here is the link

Do you know the meaning of Boondoggle? (project), term for a scheme that wastes time and money, or were you actually referring to Mr. Romney?

I do appreciate your leaving a comment. but think you do need to watch all the videos.

This is a great hub! Everyone should read it, and if they don't have the time to read it because it is quite lengthy, they should at least watch the videos which let Romney talk about himself saying things everyone who thinks they want to vote for him should know.

Davesworld: Everyone knows that when a large group gets together to make a purchase it costs far less than what a single individual would have to pay for the same thing. Right now, we're all paying through the nose for medical treatment for indigents who go to the emergency room where charges START at a $1,000 or more for an "office call." My doc is high dollar and he only charges $135 for the same thing! I think most taxpayers would rather pay the $135 if they had a choice.

All the garbage the uninformed Conservatives are spewing about ObamaCare is just a repeat of what they said when Johnson passed Medicare. You say you're retired. If you think Medicare is such a boondoggle, then why don't you refuse it and pay out of your own pocket? Put your money where your mouth is.

Admit it, you just think you're the only one who deserves to have healthcare and it really sticks in your craw to think people not as good as you (in your opinion) who have to work 3 jobs just to survive, are going to get healthcare too!

Do you call yourself a Christian? Then act like one. Stop giving people the death penalty through no access to healthcare when their only "crime" is being poor! The only thing Republicans care about is money. They have no appreciation whatever for life -- especially if that life is somebody else's.

      Excellent hub!

If all it is going to cost me is 2.5% of my income... I'd be an idiot to purchase my own insurance, everybody else would be too. I'm retired. 2.5% would run about what one months premium on insurance is right now. Why the heck should I buy it myself when I can get it on the cheap? Same is true right up to adound $240,000/year when all of a sudden insurance is cheaper than the 2.5% tax.

How long do you really think this will last? How well do you think it will work? Who is going to pay the actual cost of this boondoggle? Get serious.

Thanks Tom, I have read a lot of the Affordable Health Care Act (Obama Care) and believe it to be a hugh benefit to most Americans, especially the ones with pre-existing conditions, which include a lot of people that I know.

Also the people without a job and no way to pay for insurance. When my husband went into the hospital, that is the day his insurance dropped him.

I have not read any of Romney's health care bill for Massachusetts, but from what I have read it was a template for the Affordable Health Care Act. I guess Romney only thinks it is a good idea if it comes from him.
