Who Won the 1st Presidential Debate of 2012? Do You Think the Truth Won?

Updated on June 4, 2019

Do you believe that Romney was truthful in Wednesday's debate?

During the 2012 Presidential debate, President Obama said the economy would not be turned around overnight but, he would work hard for the American people to do it as quickly as possible.

Romney said: The president has a similar view, to the view he had when he ran four years ago!

Why would President Obama have a different message or view from what he ran on four years ago, when he still believes in what he was/is saying?

Here is what Romney says when he thinks only like minds will hear!

Romney Gaffs

Maybe you have seen the secret video before, But, T.J. Walker, contributor to Forbes pointed out the number of gaffs in the secret video of Mr. Romney denigrating 47% of the American people.

T.J. Walker breaks the secret video down and makes it clear what the gaffs are.

Mr. Romney said in the secret video that President Obama vilified him for being rich.

President Obama only pointed out the unethical practices that made him filthy rich.

See if you can catch any gaffs that T.J. Walker missed.

When Romney was questioned about another fib!

Romney said: "Look, I've got five boys. I'm used to people saying something that's not always true, but just keep on repeating it and ultimately hoping I'll believe it. But that -- that is not the case. All right? I will not reduce the taxes paid by high-income Americans."

I heard Romney lie and then say it was President Obama who is lying.

When Mr. Romney mentioned his five sons, this must mean that his sons lie to him over and over again. That tells me those apples did not fall far from the tree. Romney lies, and he implied that his sons lie.

Extension of the Bush tax cuts!

President Obama: "Governor Romney's central economic plan calls for a $5 trillion tax cut -- on top of the extension of the Bush tax cuts -- that's another trillion dollars -- and $2 trillion in additional military spending that the military hasn't asked for. That's $8 trillion. How do we pay for that, reduce the deficit, and make the investments that we need to make, without dumping those costs onto middle-class Americans, I think is one of the central questions of this campaign."

Romney retorted that he does not have a tax cut of a the scale that President Obama is talking about and, he does not have a $5 trillion tax cut.

Tax cuts for the rich!

$5 Trillion Tax cuts?/20% Cut across the board

Romney when pushed for specifics on what he would cut!

Romney said he would cut funding for PBS (Public Broadcasting System), but he loves Big Bird.

I just heard on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell – cutting PBS will gain one, 100th of one percent.

That should bring down the deficit.

Romney wants to kill Big Bird for one 100th of one percent? Or is this some kind of foul, fowl joke?

More of Romney's tax plans!

Why won't Romney/Ryan answer the most basic questions?

If they told us what they intend to do to us before he is elected maybe people would not vote for him.

President Obama said, I want to close those loopholes that are giving incentives for companies that are shipping jobs overseas. I want to provide tax breaks for companies that are investing here in the United States.

Then Romney said/implied in the 2012 Presidential debate that people who ship jobs overseas don’t get tax breaks but, he more than anyone else should know that is not true!

Tax-breaks for outsourcing jobs!

Medicare $716 billion

Mr. Romney: “But on Medicare, for current retirees, he's cutting $716 billion from the program.” Romney’s claim is that it will hurt Medicare, when per FactCheck, the opposite is true.

Me: No wonder Mr. Romney does not want to facts checked.

Without the spending cuts in the Affordable Care Act, the Part A trust fund was expected to be exhausted in 2016. With the ACA cuts, that date was pushed back to 2024.

Thank you Cheryl, both for voting for Obama/Biden and commenting on my hub.

I have Morman friends and they pride themselves on being truthful, and I don't understand why they donn't kick him out of the Church.

Thank you Au fait, for your comments. If Romney/Ryan are elected, Heaven help us.

I listened to Romney's speech yesterday from Lexington, Virginia, and I think he just says stupid things, he can't believe all that garbage. Did he forget everything he said earlier in the year.

I guess I have to search for those sound bites.

Romney the biggest liar and biggot that ever lived and his running mate. If you can't tell the people what they are asking then that just shows you that they have no plan. The proof is there people. Obama/Biden all the way. I already voted and hopefully will get the other republicans out too.

Next year, if left alone, PBS will receive apprx. 450 million dollars in subsidy from the U.S. government. About $1.35 for every person in the country.

People might find this link of interest since it keeps up with the cost of our wars and you can get eye opening info from this link in 20 seconds or less.

According to USNEWS, the Afghanistan war alone was costing tax payers 2 Billion a week in 2011. Do you think it's less expensive today?

Instead of messing with pocket change (PBS subsidy) to bring down the deficit, why not make some real cuts. Cut these nation building projects that are sold to tax payers as necessary wars. They along with tax cuts for the rich are what make up the biggest part of the deficit.

Republicans say we shouldn't buy things we can't afford. Well, we can't afford even one of these wars much less the set we're financing right now, so I'm for the Republican way. Get rid of the wars we can't afford. That would be all of them. They are unnecessary and a luxury we never could afford. They are bankrupting our country.

Most people can't wrap their minds around the huge expense of these wars so they attack instead the unfortunate people who are barely surviving thanks to the big banks. The piddling amount of money spent on public assistance programs that are so necessary today thanks to the big bankers who stole so many jobs, homes, and retirement accounts and who continue to get millions and billions of money in subsidies from tax payers every year. No one complains about helping the bankers out when in fact many of them should be in jail. Instead they kick the people who are already down.

Why is no one upset about the bank welfare? The cost of unnecessary wars? This is REAL money, not just a couple hundred dollars a month for a few thousand people on Food Stamps. The cost of the wars is well over 3.4 Trillion dollars! That is what makes up a huge part of the deficit. Let's do what the Republicans say and stop financing wars we can't afford. And no buying any new wars either, like Iran, that so many Republicans are coveting.

Thank you Mom Kat, As you can tell I agree with you.

I had not intended to go political, but the anger builds up when I hear someone like Mr. Romney and Paul Ryan trash a President who has done nothing wrong and everything right, and that is the reason for my political hubs.

I typically don't get involved with political issues publicly. I tend to keep to myself because so many people have such strong views, but this hub has just solidified why my views are so right for me.

I have been an Obama supporter since day one. I think he has done a superb job with what he has been handed and will continue to do a superb job for his second term. In order for his plans from his first election to come to fruition, he needs to be kept in office.

From what I've seen, he is one of the best and most honorable presidents we have had thus far.
