What is the Resistance Movement Really Resisting?

From the time we are small, our parents teach us about resistance. We must resist peeing in our pants, resist clobbering our siblings, and resist eating too many cookies. As an adult, social mores dictate we resist sexual deviance, resist drugs and alcohol, and resist calling off work when we’re not sick. By harnessing our willpower, we determine to make healthy lifestyle choices, be kind to others, and work hard at our occupations. We resist common temptations so we don’t suffer their ill effects. Self-control and wise choices shape good character. The ability to resist heralds maturity and sound judgment.

The far Left progressives have perverted the essence of resistance into something nefarious and destructive. Claiming to be social justice warriors, they set the bar for achievement low. What they call “activism” is really anarchy. The definition of anarchy is this: absence of any form of political authority; political disorder and confusion; absence of any cohesive principle, such as a common standard or purpose. Does that sound like a viable cause to join?

Groups like Antifa harass and threaten physical violence to anyone with an opposing viewpoint. They claim to fight fascism while they ironically promote it. Are they taking crazy pills? One urban dictionary defined Antifa this way: “Angry kids (and middle-aged losers who live in their mom's basements) that have taken up the hobby of covering up their pimply faces and starting trouble wherever crowds may gather under the guise of ‘fighting fascism;’ People who were bullied throughout middle school and now feel empowered by bullying others...as long as they're surrounded by a horde of pals.”

Our Constitution is brilliantly constructed to survive the ages. It has worked successfully for over 200 years. We the people are in charge of the political clout, and we exercise our authority at the polls. Our governmental system is organized, with a checks and balances in place to ensure power is equitably distributed and maintained. To devolve into a country with no authority, no order, and no cohesive principle is a recipe for disaster, yet this is the aim of anarchists. Whenever our country suffers a natural disaster resulting in long-term power outages, it’s only a matter of hours before thugs begin looting and committing crimes because evil thrives when boundaries are compromised. Think of Hillary Clinton’s debauchery in Libya, as another example. Against the advice of experienced military counsel, she engaged full-throttle in deposing Libyan leader, Moammar Gaddafi. The vacuum she created became the petry dish for the rise of ISIS and other jihadist groups, and Libya became worse off than it was before Crooked Hillary’s meddling. No, an America without law and order is not the answer.

Activism involves efforts to make changes in society through activities such as contacting political leaders, boycotting businesses, and public demonstrations. Unfortunately, too many anti-American anarchists are hiding behind the shield of activism when the only causes they are championing are hate and division. The Women’s March is the personification of anarchy. With Madonna threatening to blow up the White House and Ashley Judd spewing hate, they accomplished nothing for their cause. And the vulgar and sleazy vagina hats? For a group claiming to be advocating for women, they did nothing more than make themselves look like a bunch of militant witches no one could be persuaded to take seriously.

College professors everywhere are capitalizing on their positions to indoctrinate aspiring students. Instead of training them to become critical thinkers who can be a force for good in the real world, professors are going rogue from the syllabus on tirades that are anti-American, divisive, and abhorrent. Militant feminists are teaching students masculinity is toxic. An Antifa-related professor proudly espouses his love of teaching future dead cops. One professor encouraged students to change America by breaking down the family and religion of white people. Anarchy immersion study was not the higher education parents anticipated.

Any rational human being with a grain of common sense cheers when they hear headlining news such as the following:

• Release of American prisoners from North Korea, along with the remains of soldiers from the Korean War
• Record breaking tax cuts that put more money into our wallets
• Better trade deals that bring money by the boatload into our economy
• Stronger military to keep our citizens safe
• Slashed regulations to save America billions
• Creation of millions of jobs and record low unemployment, including increased manufacturing opportunities
• Lower gas prices and increased energy independence
• Decreased illegal immigration alleviates the drain on our entitlements and security
• Decimation of ISIS
• Increased support of our Veterans
• Highest consumer confidence in years

Life is better for most Americans, but rather than celebrate our national success, the Left resists. They are the type of people who would rather suffer from a malignant cancer than thrive in a healthy body. For some reason, cutting off their noses to spite their faces is preferential to admitting we all win when America is strong. What does the radical Left stand for that they want to resist what the majority of us would agree is good? They rally for killing unborn babies, rights for criminal invaders who drain our system, suppressing women and disrespecting all men via unhealthy militant feminism, disregard for law and order, socialist policies aimed at bringing down the quality of life for all, celebrating sexual perversion, overthrowing individual freedom through an all-powerful elitist government, protecting Mother Earth over human welfare, and the violent subjugation of anyone who doesn’t agree with them. The Left stands for nothing except hate and rebellion against all that is honorable. They have forsaken engaging in healthy debate because they can’t defend their deranged positions. Rather than spar in heated discourse, which they would lose for lack of logic and facts, they choose to shut down opposition through violence, vulgarity, and ignorance.

What the Left doesn’t realize they are resisting is a standard for truth. Conservatives know the measuring stick for truth can be found in God’s Word. Jesus warned us in advance, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first” (John 15:18). How could anyone hate Jesus? He is perfect! He is God incarnate come to save us, yet He is rejected by many who refuse His free gift. Jesus spoke the truth with authority, and He continues to do so through scripture. This is what the Left hates because the liberal resistance and Satan’s minions are one and the same. The power of the Word continues to echo through the ages, and the one Jesus said came to steal, kill, and destroy is still loose on the earth, taking the visage of radical liberals. Just as Emperor Palpatine was the real Sith nemesis pitting the Empire against the rebels, our opposition isn’t really the Left—they are simply willing pawns to an ancient adversary who seeks to undermine and sabotage God’s framework for righteous living and attack His people.

Understanding that we aren’t wrestling against flesh and blood, “but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12) guides us to the answer in defeating this direct onslaught on America—our one nation, under God. James 4:7 points to the solution: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” First, submitting to God means we do things God’s way, and then we stand firm. “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him” (Isaiah 59:19). We stand. God brings vindication. What does this look like? It’s the florist and the baker who refuse their services for gay weddings. It’s the college student who isn’t afraid to express his conservative values. It’s the store clerk who refuses to use the pronoun “he” when referring to a woman. It’s the teacher who addresses her students as “boys and girls” instead of the “inclusive” alternative, “friends.” It’s your peaceful patronage of businesses like Chick-fil-a that take a stand for our values. It’s your refusal to be bullied when accused of being a bigot or racist because you voted for and support conservative politicians. The Left banks on their domestic terror tactics of intimidation to silence us into passivity. It’s time we stand up and be counted and not back down. Resist, and evil will flee. This might cost you something—a job, Twitter followers, friendships—but we live in a time when we have to do the right thing without the fear of man. Being in the world but not of it is acting counter-culturally, and that is real resistance.
