Who Should Be Our Next Attorney General?

Updated on November 13, 2018

Who should be our next Attorney General?

Who should be our next Attorney General? This is a great question. Now that Jeff

Sessions has resigned from the this oh-so-important law enforcement position, we

are now speculating his successor. One great person comes to my mind at once:

Rick Santorum. He would be an outstanding Attorney General for several reasons.

First and foremost he is a very well respected public official. A person should be of

good character if they are charged with enforcing America’s federal law.

Santorum certainly fills the bill. He has never been brought up on any scandal or

Investigations both in his private sector career and as a member of Congress.

A second reason for putting Mr.Santorum into the AG spot is that Santorum is a

social conservative on most social issues such as abortion or gun control

he shows up strongly on the right side of things. This is important since the

Attorney General position demands a socially conservative officeholder.

This is a because the Attorney General so often deals with social issues.

The Republican party must keep the social conservative wing of its party happy.

Santorum is considered a hero by this wing of the party. Trump and the Republican

party as a whole must keep these people on their side if they wish to win in 2020.

A third reason to put Rick Santorum into the Attorney General position is his

post political position at which he now resides.

Santorum not only lost his Senate seat by an enormous margin but came near dead last in the most recent GOP presidential primary. This, ironically, is an asset for serving as Attorney General. Since his political career is dead and buried, he

has no political aspirations after his time as AG. Often a person will modify or compromise their behavior in a political office since they fear their actions might hurt their future political fortunes.

Santorum is completely free of this since his political career is over. Santorum will have a clear focus on the law and how it should be best enforced. Santorum has the added advantage of not losing a seat if he takes office as AG. The most recent AG Jeff Sessions gave up his Alabama Senate seat in order to take office.

This led to a special election which caused the seat to turn over to the Democrats. This is not good for the GOP since every Senate seat is crucial for success. Since Santorum does not hold any elected office right now we don’t’ have to worry about his appointment losing a GOP seat or office.

Last but not least Santorum is,alas, a fighter. The Attorney General position is not a pleasant walk in the park job. So often the person holding this job must be able to deal with lots of unpleasantness. Santorum certainly has a reputation for toughness that he built up all those years in Congress. We cannot have a squeamish or timid person in this high position but a true warrior for what’s right. Santorum fills the warrior role perfectly.

Let’s hope President Trump comes to the same conclusion.
