Why Trump Supporters Like Him

Updated on February 10, 2020
peoplepower73 profile image

Mike has a keen interest in the effects of politics in our culture. He has a unique way of simplifying complex concepts.

Introduction

I think I know why Trump supporters like him. It's because he is a fighter, albeit a dirty fighter. But that does not matter to them. Conservatives by their very nature are closed and like to protect their domain. So Trump fights for that. They think he Makes America Great Again by creating an us and them culture: Fake news, enemy of the people, closed borders, and tariffs, just to name a few. Liberals on the other hand are open by their very nature and that goes against everything that Trump and his supporters believe.

Tax Cuts

His tax cuts have benefited the super rich and corporations. So they can invest their money in the stock market; therefore, it looks like the economy is booming. But it is only booming for a select few. The rest of the country is struggling to make ends meet. The unemployed is at 3.2%, but the labor force participation rate is at 63%. That means about one third of the working force that could be working are not working.

His Rallies

But he has taken care of that as well by holding rallies for those who are not doing well. But he creates a circus-like atmosphere for them where they enjoy bashing the other side with him and that makes them feel good, even though they are out of work steel workers and coal miners. They identify with the fighter in him. Little do they realize, he likes them because they are in the states where it is easiest to get the electoral college votes.

The Evangelical Christians

The evangelicals like him because he protects their idea about the end-times and Israel, even though he violates their religious tenants every waking hour of the day, over 16,000 lies and immorality mean nothing to them as long as he protects their beliefs.

Why They Didn't Like Obama

So, I can now understand why the people didn't like Obama, first he was a black president. The Southern Republicans hated that. But they say he led from behind. What they really mean, is they didn't like his hope and change mantra because he was not fighting for America in their view.

The Democrats and Trump

Now the democratic candidates are fighting among themselves like gladiators in the coliseum and Trump, as the master gladiator, is waiting in the wings to take on the victor. Make no mistake, he will use every dirty trick in the book to win because there is nothing more sacred to Trump as winning in anyway and at any cost. I'm beginning to think he is not stupid, but a very cunning person in the fight for him winning. So if you identify with that, then you are probably a Trump supporter.

I only hope this is an example of giving them enough rope so they can hang themselves.

Why are we all just sitting here watching this unfold?

We're witnessing the complete destruction of the Justice Department, guys. When a POTUS can tweet and get a crony's sentence reduced, we are in deep doo doo. Wait for the excuses from the Right. Fox is giving them to Trump's enablers as we speak.

I know, it’s long. I basically like the first paragraph. But Yw!

And look at these fools....another reason they like dumpy. Omg, this made me laugh:

      Hahaha...

And this is why I have zero problem using the word “hate” on them.

They seem to like it so much.... I’m here to please!

      Great read.

And I agree with you 100%. It’s all there. The angry masses, the bigotry, the drugged up actor, playing the part.

      And, of course, the cruelty.

      And the denial.

I think we can safely add woman hate to the reason they like Trump.

I hear they now scream “lock her up” about Pelosi.

First it was Hillary.....lock her up, even at the inauguration they couldn’t let up.

Then, it was the Squad: “send them back”

Now Pelosi gets the lock up chant.

Jailing women for a medical procedure.

Claiming a fertilized egg has rights, but the woman who houses it has none.

      McConnell is against the ERA.

Yeah, woman hate is a staple of Trump support.

      IMO

Yeah, he’s an instigator, a bully, a thief and a liar. I’ve known many in my lifetime......also known some drug addicts, and happen to be an alcoholic.

The phrase “it’s the drugs talking” apply to Trump.

Or, in my case, “add alcohol, instant azzhole.”

His base is easy to read, too. They’ve been here since 9/11.

“Oh, you hate America, you’re not a real American, like me”

“I’m better, you go away” (every rightwinger on here, save maybe James)

They think nothing of lying to prove a point, and excuse all behavior with God. For them, anyway. The rest of us burn in hell.

Trump isn’t one of them, he just knows how to pretend. He’s a chameleon. And will change tomorrow, if a better deal comes along.

I think he buries his behavior so deep he can actually make it go away. And drugs help that.

The frequent anger outbursts, the mood swings, the forgetfulness, the speech slurring......and his eyes were dialated the size of moons.

If this is the best we can offer.....I mean.......

It really is funny if it wasn’t so deadly serious.

Our future looks bleak, with the 1% behind him. Like this:

“They were Russian vegans, environmentalists, antifascists and airsoft players. Then Putin had them accused of terrorism. They were sentenced to heavy prison terms on Monday. Rights groups called their trial a sham.”

This is our future. Barr is right now handing over stuff on Biden to Guiliani......what is his crime? His dad’s trying to be president.

Cheri Jacobus, who dared to tell the truth about Trump......that he took money from super pacs (ooooooh) said this:

“It’s time to haul Barr, Rudy, Bolton up to the Hill & toss them in the Capitol jail cell if they defy subpoenas. Go nuclear, or go home.”

Unless, of course, these pols know better. They all know Trump, from his years of buying politicians, and buying his way out of crimes.

They must all know Barr’s past......Guiliani......maybe they know what they’re doing.

I sure hope so. Because I happen to like being free to express myself, as constrained as it is even now.......

But to be jailed for an opinion.....we cannot go there. And I can see him doing it, no problem. Snort snort.....ohhhhhh, the Anger building!

      He needs rehab. Imo. Pronto.

      IMO all of it.

Leslie: Don't hold back. Let it all out. I hope you feel better now. I'm reading a book by Ezra Klien, "Why we are Polarized." He is the founder of VOX. He says that Trump does and says all these outrages things to control the narrative on both sides.

He is constantly in the media whether you like him or not. If we don't like him, we talk about him. If you like him, you talk about him. in either case, he is always front and center. An example is his wall, both sides talk about it. He doesn't care, just as long as he is the focus of attention. He likes to suck the oxygen out of the other side. Look at what he is saying about the candidates and the Iowa caucus.

Goes out of his way to hate us! How could you not hate people who “execute babies” and “don’t love America?“

And I don’t know what Pence is getting at when he told Fox:

"That's one of the reasons you see the momentum growing behind this president. And I just have a strong feeling that Nancy Pelosi’s going to be the last Speaker of the House to sit in that chair for a long time."

Do they plan on getting rid of the House of Representatives?

What’s to stop him if he wants to?

      The senate? Bwahaha

      The DOJ? Heeheehee

      The Supreme Court? Hahahahaha

What’s to stop him from doing anything? Nothing, and nobody, that’s what.

Their hatred of democrats has lead to this.......their desire to “own the libs” so strong.

They relish in anything anti us. And we pay them for it.

Talk about taxation without representation.....I mean, it’s like China charging families for the bullets that kill own their kids.

Here you go prez....here’s our money for you to golf and travel to all your properties, where we pay our money into them, so you profit off our backs. Thank you sir, we are ever so grateful for the opportunity to do that.

“You don’t even love America. You’re evil. And you should never be able to treat a president the way you treat me”

      Yes, holy one, yes.

      I mean, c’mon.

The whole country is captured by mental illness fueled by drug delusion. And yeah, I’ve experienced it before.

      From both sides.

He’s high as a kite most of the time, spewing drug-induced rage.

      *sniff**sniff*

      IMO

And you know, meth use is highest in trump voters ....and they have guns.

      https://kurzman.unc.edu/the-meth-vote/

You can say what you want.....a whole momentum fueled by rage, poor me syndrome, and true, honest desperation is what we’ve got.

But you don’t help the drug addicted with a user, you help them with people who have stopped using.

If you want help with desperation, you could talk to people who’ve been desperate for a lot longer than you have.....

And Trumps people don’t help him by shoving drugs up his nose and propping him up there.

Stop lying to people. Their jobs are not coming back. You are cutting the food they eat, cutting all social programs, in court right now! to end coverage for pre existing conditions,(ACA) and have plans to take 2 trillion out of SS and Medicare.

Just about the amount of the tax cuts......

And wait til the next one!

Go online.....do you see people talk about how much the cost of their meds have gone up? Life saving?.....it’s happening. Again.

Puerto Rico has not gotten more help, and never will.

Farmers.....eventually the welfare will end. I mean, you can’t be queens forever, can you?

The only thing that matters is moe money for the big dogs in offshore bank accounts. The ONLY thing.

      Better get used to it.

      IMO

Leslie and Paula. I identify with the liberal democrats as my party. But personally, I consider myself a fiscal conservative and a moral liberal

I believe women have the right to choose what they do with their bodies and it is not the responsibility of the government.

I also believe that Trump's deregulation of the financial institutions, while in the short term, it is boosting our economy, in the long run it will hurt the economy.

Deregulation of the financial markets is what caused the last financial meltdown and Trump has put the pieces in play to make it happen again.

I don't like Trump's vindictiveness when it comes to manipulating videos to show something that is not reality, but yet his supporters will believe it as such.

This is what I mean by Trump playing dirty.

Well, I myself am unenrolled, voted for Nader in 2000, became Dem because Howard Dean inspired me. Left when they let Roger Stone get rid of Al Franken (my opinion on it)

I also live in a state with a Republican gvr, who I voted for twice.

But, in the case of a Trump, it’s different altogether.

He is Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini all rolled into one.

And, it’s very weird Omarosa fore-told of him and what he was going to do...

Exact revenge on anyone who ever crossed him.

It’s a cult like atmosphere, and people refuse to see what’s going on right before their eyes.

It’s not that we have too much freedom, but too much entrenched ideology. IMO.

I fight trump because he’s a menace to society, not because he calls himself a republican.

And I’m much the same sometimes when I’ve had enough.

In fact, I had enough of right wingers 19 years ago when they told me I hate America!

It’s good to take a break, but in my mind, we are in grave danger here.

      But we do carry on.

What you say makes sense, Leslie but many American voters are simply not continuously and/or strongly committed to every last thing one party represents. This is why it is so important to pay attention to all of them throughout their tenures. How can we explain and understand Independents? I was registered Independent for many years......& gave my vote to the candidate of my choice during that time. This freedom is all part of our American atmosphere.

It's always interesting to me to hear people on whether or not they are happy or regretful of their vote.

As for single individual issues, especially the controversial abortion issue, we need to be realistic and aware that there are liberals who are pro life and conservatives who are pro choice. The reality is, how can we possibly know if they're sincere or merely saying what they want the public to hear. The only constant is that there is no constant.

I wonder often why do we "call ourselves" anything in particular. Labels have always bothered me. Specifically, I am only certain I'm an American, woman, mother & productive citizen. Other than these certainties, we're all flexible and subject to change. We're not programed robots.

Until recently, I don't recall ever being familiar with Barr. Now that he's so visible, I need to discover what he's all about. I don't live, breathe, eat and sleep politics. In fact there are times I close myself off entirely and just take a much needed break. I reach a point where I just can't listen to another word...so I don't.

Liberals who support Trump? What? Can’t be liberal, then. That’s like progs trying to take over the dem party.....trying to change the meaning.

A belief system is a belief system. If you think women must be forced to give birth, you are NOT a liberal.

If you support Trump, perhaps you never were a liberal.....you just pretended.

So what? Stop calling yourself liberal, that’s all. It’s not about being afraid, it’s about being phony.

“Hi, I’m Leslie. I think gvt doesn’t spend enough money. Oh, btw, I’m a conservative.”........doesn’t work, does it?

And the Barr hole goes deep. Involves Epstein, Iran/Contra, Opus Dei.

      Major evil doer, imo.

Paula: I think what you are saying may be true for you. But there is no denying the country is split into two groups. So whether the "collective we" likes it our not, that is our reality today.

And I blame a lot of that on Trump. He came along at just the right time with the right kind of temperament to make that happen. For most people I know, politics and who and what they identify with politically has become a big part of their lives when interacting with others. This includes neighbors, friends, and relatives.

As individuals, we do go about our lives, but we are either conservative or liberal unless you are totally disengaged from the news.

I should have clarified what I said before. If your are disengaged, one views a policy as, "what does this policy do for me?". If you are engaged, you say, "what does this policy position say about me?"

(This is from Ezera Klien's book.) I'm dangerous right now because I'm reading his book and trying to apply what I have learned.

As far as Barr goes, I think I might do some research.

      Take care.

Mike....I haven't actually divulged my own opinions on why I believe we are polarized. Frankly, that we are so drastically polarized, IMHO, is a damned shame. However, this chasm does exist and it is clearly becoming worse.

Please understand, Mike, I do not necessarily "stand for" (a.k.a "support") any particular individual. I stand for my own beliefs, ideals & opinions. My allegiance is not to the driver of the vehicle but to arriving at where our Country needs to be. More importantly, I would hope at this point, it's crystal clear, I am not a woman who shies away from expressing my beliefs in public. I can't think of a single time that I have needed anyone to "hide behind as they speak FOR me!" So, that being said, I apologize if I have not been clear with you.

I totally believe your comment about liberals being "afraid" to openly admit they support Trump for fear of "what their group will think of them." That's extremely shameful & cowardly, wouldn't you say? I know numerous liberals who covertly support Trump. Some have been bold enough to say so, some have jumped ship and changed parties and others say nothing but did vote for him and intend to again. To each their own practice. We cannot concern ourselves to any degree about the political behavior of others. As we have been witness to, more than a few times, it ALL comes out in the wash. Everything becomes pretty apparent on laundry day! Didn't we all learn that lesson in 2016?

In terms of what we're discussing in this particular thread, Mike, I am always cognizant that "politics" is and always will be merely one small part of who I am, my life, my lifestyle and my goals. We are all -each of us- so much more than our political leanings.....THANK HEAVEN! and I never forget for one minute that the most vital parts of our lives are family, friends, health, helping others and working toward the best life for all of us. So, in all seriousness, whatever happens for 2020, I will still be me and I won't fall apart at the seams. The world keeps turning and life goes on......and my "CHEERS," is without a question mark! (I hope you write an article about Barr.....I'd really like to know why you say he's "corrupt.")

Paula: I don't think it is what you think why we are polarized. We are polarized because identity politics has entered into every way of our life. We can't even talk to our neighbors or relatives if they have different political views then we do.

The right identifies with Trump because he is tough and stands for all the things they would like to stand for, but are afraid to express in public. The left on the other hand is more concerned about, if I support Trump what will my group say about me?

Everybody knows Trump is a dirty fighter and will resort to anything to win. Also if you cross him by telling the truth, he will fire your a** in a New York minute. That's what he has done with all the ambassadors who have testified against him.

It'a just like the New York mafia and Cosa Nostra. He is a friggin gang boss with all his lawyers surrounding him to get it off the hook. And now he can operate above the law with impunity.

Hi Paula, good to hear from you again. I've bee kicking and scratching on My Esoteric's forum. I decided to post this simple article, since it didn't get much play on the forum.

You have a personal experience with Hillary, but I don't. I'm not sure why she resurfaced.

I'm reading a book by Ezra Klein, "Why we're Polarized." It's what prompted me to post this article. I think the GOP and the right wing media have been on a mission for many years to destroy the left wing and the democrats.

I believe Trump has come along at just the right time to put the icing on the cake. He fits right in with their agenda and he will probably get re-elected because he is morally and ethically bankrupt. He is exactly what the right has been looking for, someone who can win by playing dirty and yet get away with it and be immune to all the laws that could stop him.

Laws are only as good as those who have the power to enforce them. And he has people on his side who have the power, but are afraid of him, so they don't enforce the laws. That is exactly what the GOP and right wing want.

You are my favorite conservative. I don't care what anybody says.

Randy. He is definitely operating above the law. And now he has a free reign to continue doing it. My concern is does the Dershowitz Theory get codified and become law? If it does that means future presidents including Trump if he gets re-elected can do the same thing.

Thank you John. It's an honor for someone from down under to comment on our dysfunctional government. Since you don't have any skin in the game, you probably have a better understanding of what is going on in our country. We are all too biased in one direction or the other to see things through a clear lens.

Candidates can promise the moon but is restrained by legislature, in theory. Trp has cowered legislature into paralysis. I can't see Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warner having that impact. I will vote for a Republican or Democrat that can bring respect and sanity to the table.

I agree about Bloomberg! He pulls from everywhere. He can get libs, repubs, and even un-establishment like Bobby Rush.

He, is not a politician. And he, will fight Trump on his level.

Well, that’s kind of what I see as the difference between liberals and progressives.

I think Sanders, as a progressive....pushes the simple buttons.....free healthcare, free college, school loans paid off......

And Klobuchar and Biden, as liberals say “wait a minute”.

Honestly, the rift between progs and libs is as great as libs and progs vs trumpers, in a way.

Whereas, Steve Bannon likes Sanders AND Trump, because he says they are both populists.

Burn it down is the mantra.

      Hold up is the reply.

      Great rifts, all around.

I think Bloomberg will be the only hope to change the presidency. People are not pragmatic enough in their thinking. I love ice cream and chips but they make me fat. I choose vegetables and fruit because they make me healthy.

Democrats really need to think pragmatically or expect 4 more years.

Thanks for the thoughts Mike. Expanding just a bit on the "closed" vs "open" line, I think Trump appeals to some of his supporters because everything is simple. As you stated, us vs them, socialists vs capitalist, those who love America vs those who hate America, a big wall will solve the problem.

I think many liberals, or at least those who don't support Trump, are more open to nuances in politics, and life in general. They better understand that there are grey areas. Discussions about policy are not simple, and running a nation requires expert knowledge from every field (science, economics, etc.) Trump tapped into the anti-intellectual movement, but if that goes too far, we will anti-intellectual our country into the ground. He's already got a good start at tearing us apart as a people. The ability to come up with the best disparaging nicknames seems to be a requirement for the President of the US.

Having said this, the same type of simplistic attitude can be seen among liberals. I just don't think it's to the same extent, and/or, no liberal politician has been able to fully push the simplistic buttons that work for many liberals yet.

Yeah, it’s just the old confederacy. MY country, MY rules, MY religion, MY money. My my my my myyyyyyy.

Happy to say they are a minority now, and US is stronger.

Any dem is superior to Trump, in mind body and soul.

And we lost out on the opportunity for a great prez last time.

It is what it is....its about the survival of America now.

America did everything for my family, and no grifting con man and his unscrupulous kids get to have it.

      Period.

Hey Mike...Where ya been? OR have I been MIA? Seems I haven't read anything by you in quite a while. This article tells me you've been doing some serious thinking and analyzing. Pretty fascinating stuff, although I'm afraid I'd not be as presumptuous as to speak for millions of others.

I don't fit your mold anyway, my friend. I voted for Mr. T (and you know this is coming)...because he isn't that corrupt, conniving, phony Bi-otch! (the one & only human being who has succeeded in bringing out true, raw hatred in me)...Arghhhhh! I pray I never come within 20 yards of that p.o.s.! I just know I'd wind up getting arrested! LOL..Really, Mike..will she EVER shut up and Go away? She's like an annoying mosquito!

....And quite honestly, Mr. Mike, it's looking fairly certain there isn't a single individual running on the left worth even getting out of bed for, much less going to the polls for! From which hellish wrong side of town did they drag up this bunch? Oh My God. This is truly pathetic if this is the best the left has! Will you all honestly have the stamina, time and energy to continue screaming, ranting, raving, whining, bitching and moaning another FOUR years?? Oh Mike, you guys are all going to desperately need a long long vacation after the 8 year war ya'all have had with yourselves, by yourselves for 8 years, non-stop!.

You're pretty much my favorite Liberal, Mike.....out of the 8 or 10 (or there abouts) I even bother to acknowledge. I like you and I enjoy your work. You're a smart man and also a gentleman. It's been fun harassing you a little bit!

      Peace, Paula

Good points all!, We find ourselves in the midst of the historical Friday Night Massacre as we speak. Honorable servants of out country are being fired and slandered as we discuss the charlatan in the Oval Office.

These people, who faithfully honored their oath to the Constitution, are being pushed just for doing so. I'm fearful of what the moron will do next.

As an outsider looking in I find this very interesting. I think you make some good observations. personally, I don't care who wins as long as it is decided fairly and the will of the majority. Both sides of the debate have both pros and cons as far as I can see so I'll just watch the entertainment from afar.
