Will the tea party find out in 2012 that they overplayed their hand?
It seems like the Tea Party thought their political capital from wins in 2010 allowed them to do whatever they thought was in the best interest of their state/country with reckless abandon. One and done is my prediction.
Actually I think that they are just getting started and are going to be the third party that breaks the two party system. And no I am not a member.
No they won't. American citizens don't care or know how their political system works. Justice for everyone else in the world.
The Tea Party was spectacularly successful in the midterm elections. They came from nowhere and won, or help to decide, dozens of races throughout the country. Because most Tea Party members are active and dedicated voters, unlike most political movements whose members are not committed voters, this movement shows all the signs of hanging around for a while. If their "elected members" can use the Tea Party base effectively not only will they grow in numbers over the next few years....they will , quite probably, prosper politically.
I'm not sure this answer is what you wanted to hear but to a political junkie the Tea Party movement is a fascinating study in grass roots political movements.
I think it will be a different perspective. If 2012 comes, and the conservatives who were sent to Congress in the 2010 elections have not done their jobs, then i believe that the American public could turn them out office as well either for another conservative or out of just sheer frustration. Much of America sees what is really going on in Washington now and the double-talk that is thrown around it not going to sugar-coat things enough to maintain the status quo. The democrats are currently fighting cutting what amounts to only one day's spending by the government in America. The republicans seem to be waffling on whether they can get the cuts the originally discussed. The president is laying low hoping someone else will get the blame so that he can slide through again in 2012. Meanwhile, America is falling apart by the day and there are no real actions being taken. We cannot continue on this path, we cannot afford to continue growing the size of government and the budget. The practical aspects of money management have to kick in and some sanity has to win the day. WB

Tea Party activists in the House of Representatives want to shut down the U.S. government. They say it'll teach America who really is in charge. What's more, they say that not passing a federal budget by the Oct. 1 deadline will cut government back to the levels imagined by the founding...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co … 05400.htmlThey might be perfectly fine with someone who wants to be the other gender, but, heaven forbid, they find someone with a different view of government, it's just too much evil to stomach, apparently.

Is it fair to refer to the Tea Party as the American Taliban?I think I saw a bumper sticker that said this. Obviously, this would be a very liberal position, but are there any actual similarities? Is this a statement you would support or oppose?
