Introduction

The host of the top rated news commentary show - the O'Reilly Factor, Bill O'Reilly has made a name for himself as an independent pundit who holds people accountable. He calls his show the "no spin" zone because he tries to get to the truth without the BS. His long career ended abbruptly.

- Apr. 2017

Background

For the last 20 years, I have been a regular viewer of the O'Reilly Factor on the Fox News channel. I watched him at 8 PM primetime sometimes and at 11 PM other times. His show was often informative, and contentious at times. He offered a daily commentary on the news of the day. Though I agree with him on most issues, especially social and cultural, I disagree on some economic and political views. Being a conservative, I think his claim of being an independent was not true to form but probably necessary to access some of his guests especially people in power.

I also like the format of his show where he was able to cover a lot of topics in an one hour show. He also have guests with opposing views to debate and sometimes very lively debates to keep it interesting.

Bill is also a great writer. I have read many of his books and it is apparent that he could communicate with words. He has a talent to capture the theme and communicate it in a concise and direct manor. He makes it entertaining and easy to read. There is no wonder that most of his books appear on the best sellers list for months.

Good Deeds

Over his long career, Bill has done numerous good deeds. He has pushed for the passage of Jessica's law and Megan's law. He has donated to many worthwhile charities and has held some charities such as the Red Cross and United Way accountable. He has faught the culture war, such as the war on Christmas and won.

He has raised funds to help many disabled veterans get the power wheel chair. This has given them independence in their movements.

Bill has challenged some of our elected leaders and exposed the corruption in high places including liberal judges. Over the years, he has accumuated many enemies on the left. They are rejoicing in his downfall. However, they cannot negate all the good he has done.

His Personal Side

No man is perfect. Bill's personal side seems to not match his public appeal. Without knowing any details of his personal life, no one can judge another. No one knows what goes on between two people and why things seems to not work out. His marriage did not last even though he did have 2 kids. He is very protective of his private live and his family. I think he does try to be a good father and a good influence to his kids.

He fails short in dealing with his ex-wife and apparently some of his female colleagues. His alleged mis behavior did not rise to the level of Bill Clinton or David Letterman.

A Reminder...

It so happens that I was visiting my daughter in Irvine this week. We attended a sunday service at the Saddleback church of Pastor Rick Warren. His sermon of the week is a lesson on Psalms 23.

The Divine Shepherd
A Psalm of David.
(Psa 23:1) The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

(Psa 23:2) He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;

(Psa 23:3) he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.

(Psa 23:4) Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me.

(Psa 23:5) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

(Psa 23:6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.

It is a timely message for all. It is also a reminder that God is in control. When something like this happens, there is a reason. It is not a punishment but a form of discipline.

As a Catholic and a christian, I hope Bill will use this unfortunate experience to correct his life and make peace with his family.

Some of Bill's Accomplishments

  • Best selling author of numerous books.
  • Champion of Jessica's law to protect children.
  • Watch over liberal judges that give lenient sentences.
  • Hold some charity organizations such as the Red Cross accountable.
  • Initiated a boycott France campaign over the Iraq controversy at the UN.
  • Put the spot light on Ward Churchill and eventually lead to his dismissal.
  • Put the spot light on Sami Al-Arian, the Florida Professor who is raising money to support terrorist organization.
  • Publicized the connection between George Soros and the moveon.org left wing website and other 527 political groups.
  • Started a Culture Warrior campaign against the Secular Progressive movement.
  • Brought the ACLU to the attention of the public in their war against Christmas and the boyscouts.
  • Tried to get Kate's law passed in memory of Kate Steinle who was killed by an illegal immigrant in San Francisco - a sanctuary city.

Summary

In one of his books, Bill spoke about karma. He believes in karma, how good deeds comes back to reward people. In this case, I hope he learned an important lesson. It is ironic that while vacationing in Italy and visiting the Vatican, he received word of his firing from the Factor.

Bill will survive and do very well. He will continue writing books and doing shows on the road and he will continue to have a voice on his website doing a daily podcast. His detractors will learn that life goes on. A conservative voice may be silenced on TV but the message is true.

I want to thank Bill for the years being the lone voice of conservatives and a culture warrior. You will be missed. May God bless you and save you.
