2012: End of the World or a Chance for Change?

Make the Most of this Year

It’s a new year on the Julien calendar, and each country held celebrations accordingly. It may, according to many sources, be our last full year alive. That’s very depressing after a celebratory weekend and something many people dismiss out of hand. If it makes you feel better, Sir Isaac Newton claims the world ends after 2060.

However, imagine just for a moment that it is true. What could you do to make life better for your fellow citizens for their remaining time? What kind of legacy will you leave for whatever life remains? Could you relieve just a little suffering? Will you be a hero or a villain or invisible?

Problems can seem to be insurmountable. What can you do for the man, woman or child living on the streets? However, change is very easy. Buy him a blanket or a coat. Even if you go to a thrift store or a yard sale, that small item is more than that man may have now. You have made a difference. How many blankets can you buy over a month or year? How many cans of soup can you donate to your local soup kitchen? It doesn’t take much if everyone helps.

How many blankets can you buy over a month or year? How many cans of soup can you donate to your local soup kitchen? It doesn’t take much if everyone helps.

Look in the mirror and tell yourself you are unable to contribute. Most people can't lie when looking someone straight in the eyes. Take a stand and help. Care about the less fortunate. Help the sick, the family who lost their home to fire or foreclosure, the jobless. Few “deserve” to suffer. Most are hardworking just like you. With different circumstances or luck, they ARE you.

Think. Search your soul. Make REAL changes in the new year not just “resolutions.”

Just in case you have missed the controversy, here are the most prominent doomsday theories for 2012:

According to Chapter 17 of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, in 9792 BC, there was retrograde movement of Venus through the constellation of Orion. The only time this had happened. However, this is scheduled to occur again on December 21 or 22, 2012. The significance of this event is there is a shift in the earth’s poles and may result in a directional change of rotation around the sun.

The Mayan calendar began in 3114 BC and ends on December 21, 2012. The Mayans’ predict the Earth’s destruction. Experts interpret the prediction as a collision between the Earth and a missing planet called Nibiru or massive earthquakes.

World War III brings destruction via blue flashes of light--interpreted as atomic bombs--according to the Hopi. It will begin in China, India, Africa, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and other Islamic countries and will destroy the United States.

Solar explosions scorch all or part of the earth according to the Aztecs and Incas during the winter solstice in 2012.

Sybil, a priestess of Pythia, who was a channel (voice) of Apollo, prophesied that Earth would be victimized by tremendous earthquakes, wars and fires from the heavens in 2012.

Interpretations of Nostradamus' Lost Book predict that the Comet Planet Nibiru will closely pass by the Earth over a seven-day-period and bring destruction to Britain, Rome and the Vatican and trigger World War III. Tidal Waves as high as 10,000 feet will cause massive destruction.

Many also equate the book of Revelations in the King James Bible to 2012.

Do you believe the world will end in 2012?

      "Chance of Change"

      The end of the world is kept hidden and no one knows the exact date and time. It is known only to the Creator.

      The guidance available in the Holy Qur'an is:

      "1. Concerning what are They disputing?

      2. Concerning the great news,

      3. About which They cannot agree.

      4. Verily, They shall soon (come to) know!

      5. Verily, Verily They shall soon (come to) know!

      6. Have we not made the earth As a wide expanse,

      7. And the mountains As pegs?

      8. And (have we not) created you In pairs,

      9. And made your Sleep for rest,

      10. And made the night As a covering,

      11. And made the Day As a means of subsistence?

      12. And (have we not) built over you the seven firmaments,

      13. And placed (therein) a light of Splendour?

      14. And do we not send down from the clouds water In abundance,

      15. That we may produce therewith corn and vegetables,

      16. And Gardens of luxurious growth?

      17. Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed,

      18. The Day that the trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth In crowds;

      19. And the heavens shall be opened As if there were doors,

      20. And the mountains shall vanish, As if They were a mirage.

      21. Truly Hell is As a place of ambush,

      22. For the transgressors a place of destination:

      23. They will dwell therein for ages.

      24. Nothing cool shall They taste therein, nor any drink,

      25. Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold,

      26. A fitting recompense (for them).

      27. For that They used not to fear any account (for their deeds),

      28. But They (impudently) Treated Our Signs As false.

      29. And all things have we preserved on record.

      30. "So taste ye (the Fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall we grant you, except In punishment."

      31. Verily for the righteous there will be a fulfilment of (the heart's) desires;

      32. Gardens enclosed, and grapevines;

      33. Companions of equal age;

      34. And a cup full (to the brim).

      35. No vanity shall They Hear therein, nor Untruth:-

      36. Recompense from Thy Lord, a gift, (amply) sufficient,

      37. (From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all between, ((Allah)) Most gracious: none shall have power to argue with Him.

      38. The Day that the spirit and the angels will stand forth In ranks, none shall speak except any who is Permitted by ((Allah)) Most Gracious, and He will say what is right.

      39. That Day will be the sure reality: Therefore, whoso will, let Him take a (straight) return to His Lord!

      40. Verily, we have warned you of a penalty near, the Day when man will see (the deeds) which His hands have sent forth, and the Unbeliever will say, "Woe unto me! Would that I were (mere) dust!"

      [78: 31 to 40]"

      The time available must be used to serve humanity in a manner that peace, mercy and blessing of God is obtained.
