So far in his presidency, has Barack Obama been a great success or a dismal failure?
Well I personally believe that Obama has had some success, but I wouldn't say that he has been fantastic. It all has to do with your political beliefs though. If your for healthcare reform and more government control on american corporations then he has been a great success, but if you don't believe that then he has probably been a failure.
I really see no basis on which to claim any success. I have heard some reference the healthcare initiative as a brave and bold step on his part but from my perspective, when you push through something like this which the majority of people are not asking for, you are just being stupid not intelligent. The gulf oil spill leaves no room for success and the same holds true for the illegal immigration issue in Arizona. Stimulus spending falls into the same category with the healthcare...more stupid than intelligent. There is nothing on the international front to crow about other than his bowing down and apologizing which infuriated more Americans than anything else. I honestly do not see aspect that I would say has significantly improved in the past two years...in fact I think the opposite is true. WB
It depends on how you define success and failure. He has not done everything he promised, but everything he has done is something he promised to do.
People keep saying he pushed through healthcare legislation...all three candidates, including McCain ran campaigns promising universal healthcare. Hoe conveniently we forget. More importantly, how much sense does it make to raise hell about something that is years away?
I hear what I consider asinine complaints about the oil spill, as if he did it or the closing of Guantanamo as if he could just ignore Congress. We're in Afghanistan...the war he called the right war, while everybody applauded. Folks peg the stimulus but never seen to point out that Governors say the stimulus saved their states. Frankly, I don't think people know enough about politics, the economy or the debt and deficit to answer this question, they just know how they FEEL.
I didn't vote for Obama and I'm not being squeezed, so perhaps I can be a little more objective. When I consider the reception he had after his election...if Americans had been smart, they would have capitalized on his popularity. Instead 30 days after he took office, they were out with their signs calling him a Socialist, Kenyan, Marxist, African and whatever insult they could conjure and it hasn't let up.
His failure is America's failure.

I was thinking about this from a historian's perspective (I have an M.A. in History). My first caveat about this question is that, as a historian, I think it's misguided to try to evaluate president's while they're still in their presidency. It takes perspective and time to provide a proper...
