How can an individual be proud of your government when its policies do not favour you?
it hurts to hear people say i love my country!
Why confuse the concepts of government and country? First, a country is not just its government, and a government is not a country. A country is a mass of people, culture or cultures, and its history.
I love America. The United States is the greatest nation on earth, for many reasons. But Obama shames us horribly, with his betrayal of the people, history, culture, and traditions of our nation.
I find few to no reasons to ever be "proud of government". It's just a necessary evil, something that should be as small and unobtrusive as possible.
Be proud of your people and your culture. Use the government as a tool to a better life for yourself and others. And respect the individuals that represent us or at least represent some of us.
That perspective is too narrow and too limited in scope as the government will seldom do what I want. At the same time, I am more than willing to compromise on what makes good sense in terms of being best for America...but....it better make common sense. Don't bring me some double-speak gobbled-goop crap and tell me it is good for America...don't piss down my back and try to convince me that it is raining. The public endures far too much of that today in all places in the world. WB
