Do you think Prisons should invest in treatment and adult education.
97% of all Offenders will be released back into communities. With that in mind do you agree the money is much better spent making them ready for their release than spending money on them returning again.
There is no question that our prison system and justice system are a complete joke. Offenders are put in prison for a multitude of reasons, but they are treated in a "one size fits all" fashion.
There are those suffering from mental illness that simply need proper treatment. There are juvenile delinquents that never had a proper role model, lack an education, and lack a purpose in their lives. Some are in prison for the right reasons (selling drugs in order to put food on the table for their families) but in the eyes of law it's illegal.
Not to mention that some prisoners have been behind bars so long that they do not have the effective skills to succeed in the real-world environment after their release. It is important that the prison take initiatives in treating those that need the mental help, and also providing an education so that they can adjust in order to become proper benefits to society rather than burdens.
That is exactly what I know to be true. 16.5 years working with Offenders, and seeing success . How some say in disbelief, by treating the whole person, starting at childhood and working toward adulthood addressing many issues. We work as a community
