Why are recycling bins so much smaller than trash cans?
Shouldn't we be encouraging people to recycle most their personal items vs.. having them lay on the ground somewhere?
I suspect it's because recycling programs started small. Most products weren't considered recyclable, and there weren't enough facilities to process them. Over time, that has changed, but I think they've stayed small because most people still consider it a fringe program. As in, everybody throws away garbage, but only a few recycle some select items. Personally, I think I generate more recyclables than garbage in a given week.

What do you do with all the garbage you pick up, and do you recycle it?

I have often wondered this since recycling is so reported in the world as being important. Since visiting the local recycling drop off it seems few people actually recycle.
