If money did not matter, I would run a home for seniors. It would be an affordable alternative to living alone. I would make it home-like with planned, nutritious meals. There would be therapies available to enrich their lives and fill their senses.
Most seniors' homes do not take the soul into account. There is not that warm welcoming feeling that helps to make their space feel like a place they want to be. I would allow a cat and dog to live in the home because a pet does so much to lift the spirits. There would be plenty of flower arrangements, plants and natural art objects. A vegetable garden would be out back to supply healthful, nutritious food for meals. The residents would be allowed to garden at will because growing things is fulfilling, medative, good gentle physical therapy; and, an opportunity to socialize with like-minded friends.
I would have a games rooms that promote puzzles, playing cards, good books, crafts such as knitting or model building, quiet corners for reflection; and, nice comfy chairs and sofas for impromptu naps. There would be large grassy areas for activities like croquet or lawn bowling while other areas would be landscaped paying attention to colour, scent and visual interest. Residents would be able to work in these gardens as well if they desired.
Finally, I would arrange outings bi-weekly with a view to variety of activities, interests of residents, ease of access for seniors and other considerations.
