Trump picks former WWE executive Linda McMahon for education secretary...

A former Senate candidate in Connecticut, McMahon is the former executive of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), which she co-founded with her husband, Vince McMahon.

In October, McMahon was named in a new lawsuit involving WWE. The suit alleges that she and other leaders of the company allowed the sexual abuse of young boys at the hands of a ringside announcer, former WWE ring crew chief Melvin Phillips Jr. The complaint specifically alleges that the McMahons knew about the abuse and failed to stop it....

Is there really no qualified individual without some sort of sex scandal available?

I am not concerned since there is a promise to eliminate the Dept. of Education. That is in Project 2025, but in Agenda 47 it outlines how to change the Dept. of Education. So, what he will do is kinda' in the air as I see it. I haven't read anything of late on the topic other than what your OP is on.

As an aside, the perspective I am taking 'at this time' many of his appointments are going to be puppets. But, isn't that natural?

On the topic of sex scandals poking about I found this graphic from 2013.

The years from left to right are for five year periods. Graphic by Igur.com.

      1990 - 1994
      1995 - 1999
      2000 - 2004
      2005 - 2009
      2010 - 2013

On that short journey with the browser search phrase, "sexual behavior sex scandals political party" brought articles and studies going back as far as the 90's. Not only by party, but by ideology in many different aspects or facets. Interesting enough the SERP results were 4,130.000 landing pages. I only went as far back as page 10 of the Google SERPs provided. Most of the articles seemed to be between 2015 - 2024. I put this into my 'Look into' folder in my PC.

Trump seems to be attempting to normalize or desensitize people to sex scandal with his picks. Just my take.

Is blowing up the DOE a good idea?  Trump likes the idea of taking a bulldozer to things but there seems to be no thought to the aftermath.

The federal government has come to play some really important roles in education.   Probably the most important  is disbursing Title I funds for students in poverty and students with disabilities.  What's the plan for these kids?  Does anyone care?

If you look at the states that rely the most on Title I funding as a share of their per-pupil education spending, it's actually a bunch of red, rural states that get the largest share.   This strikes at the heart of Trump's base,  I wonder if they are even aware?

NPR asked the Trump transition team if the president-elect could provide more details on his plan to eliminate the Department of Education and if the incoming administration had concerns about Republican-led states getting less federal funding for education.

Karoline Leavitt offered the following statement in response: "The American people re-elected President Trump by a resounding margin giving him a mandate to implement the promises he made on the campaign trail. He will deliver."

Ok then,  bulldoze away.  I guess we worry about the rubble later.   Stupid idea with an unqualified person at the helm...what could go wrong?

It is complex as I see it, yet I will wait until Thanksgiving to get information/opinion from my Sister-in-Law a former school district superintendent and today has consulting firm for education. I am sure she would be candid, though more than likely against it.

The most thorough article I found on this topic is from Fortune online magazine. It seems getting rid of DOE is not novel with Regan in 1980 promoting getting rid of it along with Bob Dole in '96 plus Senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul in 2015. Discovery shares "Closing the Department of Education would require congressional action and likely a super majority of 60 votes in the Senate, according to The Washington Post. Republicans won back control of the Senate in last week’s election, but will remain several votes shy of 60, meaning any action requiring 60 votes would need the support of some Democrats."

          My confusion for a sake of a term is that being will the DOE be eliminated and responsibilities turned over to the states or not? His Agenda 47 summary is;

"Education: Trump’s proposals for K-12 schools include having parents elect school principals, cutting federal funding to any school teaching “critical race theory,” ending teacher tenure, creating a new credentialing body to only certify teachers “who embrace patriotic values,” encouraging prayer in schools, making it easier to kick “out-of-control troublemakers” out of school, supporting school districts that allow teachers to carry concealed firearms and pushing “school choice” policies."

Lol I think it's real.  She actually has a bunch of recorded moments in the ring.  She took on her own daughter in one of them.  Just another nominee with a bizarre history.

What do you think of her qualifications to head the Department of Education? Or to actually shut it down?

Willowarbor: You willingness to continue in your attempts to hold back the tide on these discussion boards is beyond admirable.

Good luck in fighting to good fight.

I don't have the stomach for it anymore.

Although I did read this morning that the Felon won by the smallest margin since the 19th century and more eligible voters stayed home than voted for either candidate.
