John Lennon

Updated on December 12, 2013

John Lennon

Lennon in all likelihood did more then any other early rock personality to shake up rock 'n' roll, move it forward and infuse it with a conscience. As the most venturesome and candid of the four Beatles, he helped shape the docket of the Sixties - socially, politically and musically.

During his solo years, he created music that alternately distressed and comforted, aroused and sought community. As a human being, he functioned as a model of honesty in his artistry and his life.

What John Had To Say .... - Some Assorted John Lennon Quotes

  • "Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue with that; I'm right and I will be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first - rock and roll or Christianity."
  • "He didn't come out of my belly, but my God, I've made his bones, because I've attended to every meal, and how he sleeps, and the fact that he swims like a fish because I took him to the ocean. I'm so proud of all those things. But he is my biggest pride."
  • "I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?"
  • "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality."
  • "If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace."
  • "If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that's his problem. Love and peace are eternal."
  • "If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it Chuck Berry."
  • "I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It's just that the translations have gone wrong."
  • "All we are saying is give peace a chance."
  • "As usual, there is a great woman behind every idiot."

A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.

      John Lennon was a genius, misunderstood by those who couldn't understand his vision.His music was unforgettable. I wish we could have seen what he'd be today.

      John Lennon will always be my all-time favorite musician and probably the greatest rock singer/songwriter of the 20th century. A genius through and through.

      Did you know that John Lennon's shooting death by a .38 revolver was foretold by he and his fellow Beatles in 1966?

      Look at the photograph on the back cover of the LP "Revolver" album:-

      i)John not wearing sunglasses as are the other 3;

      ii)John not dressed in black as are the other 3;

      iii)John shown under a circle of light as the other 3 are not.

      Further, John was shot with a .38 revolver.

      Not at all like the "I buried Paul" tricks, but an eerie prediction (or was it a self fulfilling prophecy).

      Incidentally in the photograph there is another geometrical shape, a triangle, pointed directly at George Harrison, the next Beatle to die.

      I have always been a huge Beatles fan. The taking of John from our world has always been such a tragedy, although he was just a little before my time. I wish he had been around longer to show us what the meaning of love and peace could be in our erratic world. Just Imagine.

      Hi again Jane! I am #1 Beatle fan. All of their lenses were taken, but I did one on John Travolta. Will do a Beatle one also. 5 stars, and I saw them in person in Chicago twice, ran a fan club for 6 years. Know them well. Love them. Great job! Kathie
