Netanyahu Was Warned Twice by Israeli Intelligence That He Was Funding Terrorism Arm of Hamas Through Qatar
Flying in the face of Netanyahu's already dubious explanation for funneling hundreds of millions of dollars to Hamas over the past decade, a figure put at around $1.3 billion by former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, two different Israeli intelligence agencies have asserted that they warned Netanyahu at various times that funds, often consisting of suitcases filled with cash, were being commandeered by the Hamas military wing.
It may come as a surprise to many Americans, used to hearing that Israel is locked in a desperate death struggle with Hamas, that Netanyahu has been active in bolstering the organization with hundreds of millions of dollars.
The Times of Israel wrote in March 2025:
"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was warned at least twice before the Hamas onslaught of October 7, 2023, that the terror group’s military chief Muhammad Deif was appropriating funds provided by Qatar to Gaza with the premier’s approval, Hebrew media reported Tuesday.
According to near-identical reports by Channel 12 and the Kan public broadcaster, Netanyahu was warned in 2019 by then-Shin Bet chief Nadav Argaman, and again in 2020 by the IDF’s Military Intelligence Directorate....
Kan reported that Argaman wrote Netanyahu saying the Shin Bet had “identified that funds flowing from Qatar to Gaza have been diverted to Hamas’s military wing.” Netanyahu was said to reply, “I’ve heard, we’ll continue the process,” or words to that effect."
Prominent critics of Netanyahu's policy of funding Hamas include former prime minister Ehud Barak, and former Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman.
Ironically, one of Netanyahu's more endearing habits is to call anyone who opposes him a Hamas supporter.
One on hand, Netanyahu consistently portrays Hamas as the worst of the worst "barbarians at the gate," who almost daily have allegedly launched rockets at Israel, or attacked it in some way.
On the other hand, Netanyahu has massively funded Hamas, saying that it is important to keep Hamas in power as a counterweight to the Palestinian Authority, the other major Palestinian political party.
In August 2025, Netanyahu called the idea that he was a major funder of Hamas "hogwash," even though it is on the public record that he and his ultra-right-wing cabinet approved of such funding in a meeting in 2018.
“In 2018, Qatar began making monthly payments to the Gaza Strip. Some $15 million were sent into Gaza in cash-filled suitcases – delivered by the Qataris through Israeli territory after months of negotiation with Israel….
Israel approved the deal in a security cabinet meeting in August 2018, when Netanyahu was serving his previous tenure as premier.”
At a Likud party conference in 2019, Netanyahu said:
“Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas …”
Israel is the single largest recipient of US civilian and military assistance in the world.
In 2001, soon before he died, longtime chairman of the PLO Yasser Arafat said Hamas was a "creature of Israel."
Each time Netanyahu blusters that he hates, loathes, and will annihilate Hamas, he is talking about an entity he himself nurtured and created.
There is even a Wikipedia page on the entire matter, "Israeli Support for Hamas".
In US media, only One America News Network (OANN) has so far deigned to report that it is Netanyahu and Israel which has been funding Hamas, often through the intermediary of Qatar. Last month, September 2025, OANN host Matt Gaetz roiled the Internet when he ran a clip of recently assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk, with Kirk saying that he did not believe the official account of the October 7 attack on Israel.
Kirk suggested that the Gaza - Israel border was far too impenetrable for a ground attack to succeed without a "stand-down" order, meaning help from inside the defenses.
Now, an IDF soldier, Shalom Sheetrit, has gone before the Israeli Knesset and testified that his unit on the border on October 7 was given just such a stand-down order.
Sgt. Sheetrit said to a Knesset committee in July 2025:
“We were playing on the phone [at 5:20 a.m.] and suddenly a strange message comes from my battalion commander…And what he says on the call is something like this: ‘I don’t know why, but an order was issued that there are no patrols at the fence until nine in the morning…."
Sheetrit said:
"And Tomer gives us this look like,. What? You know, we’re simple soldiers, just combatants. we’re infantry, not commanders or officers who can ask questions, right? It’s an order from the deputy battalion commander. we take the order and and don’t ask questions …and sure enough exactly an hour later suddenly sirens…."
Gaetz then proceeded to detail how, little known to much of the world, Netanyahu and Israel have been funneling hundreds of millions of dollars to Hamas.
Matt Gaetz on OANN Exposes Netanyahu Funding Hamas, Shows Charlie Kirk Questioning 10/7 "Stand-Down"
In the sane world it is unfathomable how a policy of sending hundreds of millions of dollars in suitcases full of cash, to people who allegedly launch rockets at you every day, and have kidnapped and killed your citizens even before October 7, could be in the interest of peace.
The answer is simple. It is not, and was never intended to be. Netanyahu's policy of building up Hamas only makes sense if he was preparing to commit genocide, and needed a convenient enemy.
A clear example of this kind of thinking high up in the Netanyahu government can be seen in a leaked Wikileaks cable of 2007, when the Israeli chief of Military Intelligence, IDF Air Force General Amos Yadlin, said that “Israel would be happy if Hamas took over Gaza because the IDF could then deal with Gaza as a hostile state.”
In other words, with the perfect bogeyman of Hamas in place, Israel could slaughter Palestinian babies at will.
Netanyahu and Israeli hardliners have justified countless atrocities such as bombing schools and hospitals in the name of defeating Hamas. At every turn, defenders of Israel stand ready with "What about Hamas?"
The Israeli equivalent of the CIA, Shin Bet, reported in March 2025 that Netanyahu and his hard-line cabinet not only empowered the terrorist Hamas, but enabled the massacre of October 7 as well.
Netanyahu himself let slip a glimpse of his pleasure at having October 7 as a casus belli to demolish Gaza when he said in an interview on Triggernometry that, prior to October 7, there was no national or international "consensus" to go into Gaza and "wipe them out." And that after October 7, there was.
October 7 served as the trigger for the ongoing genocide in Gaza. So far over 65,000 mostly civilians, women and children have been killed in two years, more than the number of US soldiers killed during the entire course of the Vietnam War.
