Every US Marine Should Know These Answers!

Updated on February 1, 2016

United States Marines Quiz

This quiz is about America's elite military branch, the shock troops of the US armed forces, the United States Marines. I'm not a Marine; I spent three years in the Army. But I've always held them in high regard. Hence, this Marine Corps quiz. If you are related to, or know, a US Marine you might get half of these USMC trivia questions correct. If you've served in The Corps, you may get 8 to 9 correct. I'd be very surprised if anyone got all ten correct. If you do, you are a true student of the history of the US Marines Corps! Good luck! If you get less than three correct, you need to join the Marines to learn more about them! Thanks to all current and former US Marines for their service! Check out this fun quiz and answers on the US Marines below, and then visit the official USMC site, here to learn more about eligibility, becoming a Marine and being a Marine.

If you enjoy both history and wargaming, check out Norm Koger's phenomenal Operational Art of War III below. There are over 200 scenarios based on actual historic battles in which you can perhaps make a little history of your own as you take command of the actual units that fought in those battles. Challenge your friends in person or by email, or play against a highly sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI). Pick your side. Take command! My personal favorite is the Korean War scenario in which you have the opportunity to command US Marine, Army, Naval and Air Force units against ruthless and battle-hardened North Korean troops and, if you're not careful, hordes of Red Chinese. as well. Whether or not the Chinese enter the war will depend on the decisions you make!

Hope you enjoy my Marine Corps trivia questions and answers! If you do, don't hesitate to challenge fellow Marines and others to take it by clicking on the buttons to the right.

Are You A Marine? - Are You Serving, Or Have You Served, In Another Branch?

Thanks to all for your service! And good luck in the Marines Quiz (below this poll)!

Which one, if any, of these applies to you?

General Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller, USMC, on being surrounded by 67,000 Chinese troops at the Chosin Reservoir, Korea:

"They're on our right, they're on our left, they're in front of us, they're behind us; they can't get away from us this time."

Movies About Marines History From Amazon

4-disk set includes combat footage of Marines in action Korea, including the landing at Inchon, and the godawful withdrawal, fighting every foot of the way in frigid temperatures, from the Chosin Reservoir, or as the Marines called it, "the Frozen Chosin," to the port of Hamhung. I served in Korea about 11 years after the war ended, and it amazes me that anyone could survive the Korean winter, virtually without shelter for days on end, and fighting for territory all along the 78-mile route from the reservoir to Hamhung.

Battle History of the USMC: Korea
Battle History of the USMC: Korea

It was the US Marines who turned things around for Gen Douglas MacArthur by cuting off the North Korean supply lines with the invasion of Inchon. Now, follow the Marines as they head north only to be surprised by human waves of Chinese troops storming across the Yalu River. Join them as they fight their way through the encircling enemy at the Chosin Reservoir and slog their way to the port of Hungnam and evacuation. Vivid combat footage!

Now, You Command US Marines in Battle! - Norm Koger's Operational Art of War III For Serious War Gamers

Attention, history buffs! War gamers, listen up! US Marines have distinguished themselves in countless battles in defense of America and the Free World' among them, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, the Chosin Reservoir and Iraq, Imagine yourself commanding Marine regiments and divisions. Now, you can! The fate of the world rests on your shoulders; yours and your Marines...in Norm Koger's incredibly realistic operational war game...The Operational Art of War III.

Over 200 highly realistic, historically accurate, scenarios to choose from, you can play against friends in person or by email, or against an extremely able AI (artificial intelligence...Your COMPUTER!). If you have an interest in history and in the operational aspects (from a supreme commander's perspective) of war, you will enjoy the heck out of this amazingly realistic war game!

My personal favorite is the Korean War scenario. It's June, 1950. What will you do when Kim Il-sung's 135,000 battle-hardened troops, supported by heavy artillery and 135 Soviet-made T-34 tanks blitz across the 38th Parallel dividing the two Koreas? Your South Korean Army is poorly equipped without tanks or anti-tank weapons. Your American contingent numbers only 500 troops of the Korean Military Advisory Group (KMAG). Before it's all over, though, you will command over 1,789,000 American soldiers, Marines, airmen and sailors, as well at over 40,000 troops from 17 other UN countries. Do you stand and fight? Do you make an orderly withdrawal, blowing the bridges as you retreat to slow the NK advance? Will the North Koreans push you all the way down the peninsula to Pusan before reinforcements arrive? Will you be able to pull off an amphibious landing at Inchon to turn the tide? Or will you decide to land further north in North Korea, itself? Will China enter the fray? Everything depends on the choices you make. Take command!

The only reason I got 4 right was because I watched a LOT of the JAG TV series - otherwise I would have gotten them all wrong!!!

I wasn't in the corp. but I served in the Air Force in Vietnam. I did a so-so job on the quiz, I knew the obvious answers. For instance half bird is Lt Colonel, easy one. I didn't do so well on the historical questions however. See you around the galaxy...

@Senora M: Thanks for giving it a whirl! Turnabout is fair play, so I have just come from taking your Spanish Vocabulary Quiz. I've never taken a class...but managed to eke out a 70%. It was a very reasonable test...not loaded with obscure questions. It had to have been or I wouldn't have scroed as well as I did.

@anonymous: Thank you very much for those lensrolls, Susie! I think I rolled at least one of yours to this one. I will have to double-check. And special thanks for your excellent suggestion. I am about to add a poll lens as per your suggestion right now. Thanks, again!

@Swisstoons: It would be interesting to have poll about if its Marine or not who took the quiz. Something to that effect. - I lensrolled this to Support Our Troops and Veterans and to Veterans and Veterans of War - USA, and am featuring it on both. A nice update for my lenses, and I hope that will help yours. ~ Thanks for creating this.

Felt like I had to take this when I saw it because my brother served as a Marine. Please do not let him know my score, 60% (blush).

@emmaklarkins: Thank you for taking the quiz, Emma! How'd you make out...8? 9? Some I think were pretty easy and some others were "figurable." But a couple were tougher.
