10 Things We All Should Know About Mike Pence
10 Things We All Should Know About Mike Pence
Many Republicans and Democrats think Mike Pence would make a better President than Donald Trump. Well, that is not exactly a tough argument to make considering Trump's lack of knowledge on most issues, his racist rhetoric, his objectification and alleged sexual assault of several women including possible rape of a 13 year old girl. Mike Pence comes off as a very charming, well mannered gentleman from Indiana. When you look deeper into who the man truly is, he is undoubtedly a wolf in sheep's clothing. The following are 10 things the Republicans do not want to become common knowledge among voting Americans about Mike Pence.
1. Pence is on record stating that he believes gay people who apply for a marriage license should be arrested. He actually signed a bill that would make that law. The Indiana courts gave same sex couples the right to marry in 2014.
2. Pence has said on many occasions, people who have abortions should be forced by law to have a funeral for the fetus. He again actually signed a bill that would make that law. It was eventually blocked by the Indiana courts.
3. Pence believes gay people who need medication for HIV, should be required to take courses to cure them of their homosexuality. Mike Pence wrote on his website in a section on LGBT issues that money from a program to help those with HIV/AIDS should go to organizations “which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.”
4. Pence supports gay conversion therapy and would want tax payers to pay for the facilities who offer the therapy.
5. Pence actually criticized Disney for portraying a female character capable of winning in combat against a male character. “Disney expects us to believe that Mulan’s ingenuity and courage were enough to carry her to military success on an equal basis with her cloddish cohort."
6. Pence does not support women in the workplace who have children or plan on having children. “For years, we have gotten the message from the mouthpieces of the popular culture that you can have it all, career, kids and a two-car garage.”
7. Pence does not support women in the military. “Many young women find many young men to be attractive sexually. Put them together, in close quarters, for long periods of time, and things will get interesting … Moral of the story: women in military, bad idea.”
8. Pence objected to the Mathew Shepard Hate Crimes bill, which adds to the 1969 United States federal hate-crime law to include crimes motivated by a victim's actual or perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. Pence claimed it would have a "chilling effect on religious expression, from the pulpits, in our temples, in our mosques and in our churches.”
9. Mike Pence passed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in Indiana. This bill allows businesses to refuse services to gay citizens based on religious beliefs. This obscene law should be an article all on its own.
10. Indiana has one of the worst records in the country as far as providing proper education for African American children. Pence has done absolutely nothing to change this since he became a congressman and eventually governor of Indiana. Activists have accused Indiana lawmakers of re-segregating and underfunding schools.
This is a lesson for all of us, be very careful what you wish for and be sure to not allow a nice smile and charisma blind you from the truth. Mike Pence does not respect the LGBTQ community, does nothing to help the minority students in Indiana and does not respect women in the workplace. Don't take my word for it, simply listen to what Pence has been preaching for years. Next to Donald Trump, Mike Pence does look like a much better choice for the country, and he definitely is a better choice. However, any person who is sane, does not suffer from narcissism, lack of impulse control, or sexually assaults women, is a better choice than Donald Trump. The man does not exactly set the bar high.
