Are You Dating a Psycho?

Updated on February 21, 2017

While online dating may be pretty common these days, there are still certain precautionary steps you should take to protect yourself. You only live once and you are the one responsible for keeping yourself safe, below are a few tips for dating online safely.

Keep your personal information private

When meeting someone you met online for the first time you should always make sure to keep certain personal information private, at least until you know the other person a little better. You never want to give your number to someone after only talking to them a couple of hours, get to know them a little better. Have them meet you in a public place for the first couple of dates. You can never take your safety for granted, that should be one of the first things you think about before meeting someone for the first time. I mean think about it would you just walk up to someone on the street and give them your phone number and address. These people are still strangers, don't be fooled or tricked by a few suave lines.

Are they being truthful?

Not everyone you will meet on-line will be quite what they seem. In other words sometimes that artist turns out to be a grown man, or woman living in their mothers basement. Not saying that there is anything wrong with that, but there is definitely something wrong with them being untruthful. Some people will even lie on their on-line profiles, and try to make themselves appear more appealing. Which is why it is very important to ask questions and plenty of them. For example: If someone tells you they went to college, ask them what college they went to and other questions like what their degree was, or how many credits they graduated with.

Another thing you can do to make sure your date is who they say they are is to do a little detective work thanks to Face-book that is kind of easy not to say you should stalk the person. Just saying you should make sure your date is who they say they are before you meet them. Believe it or not there are lots of married people who will tell you they are single Face-book can usually give you an answer whether they are being honest or not. Never be afraid to offend someone, by asking very relevant questions.

Finally the date

So you talked to the person for a while by now and you decide it is finally time to meet them. Make sure the place you meet them at is a pretty public place such as a nice restaurant or park. Tell your family and friends where you are going to meet your date at and make sure you keep your phone in your purse at all times just in case things turn out kind of crazy. Be honest to them tell them what your looking for and ask them to be honest with you.

We all want that fairytale romance but we should never risk our lives when trying to find it. Always be safe when dating someone online use the same precautions you would if you were going on a blind date your friend set you up with. Keep in mind no matter what they told you online or you told them you have never personally met them so technically they are still strangers.
