Dangerously in my 20s

Updated on January 27, 2015

Tripping over the lies

I am starting to think of fairy tales in another light

starting not to believe the freighting lies told to me

the lies sold to me

the lies that consoled me

when I laid at night holding my teddy to my chest

"Close your legs you're wearing a dress"

Then I grew breast and hips

wear bright lipstick on my lips

Cause now I'm on your wish list.

Momma Said

Momma told me I's supposed to be a

House cleanin'

Man pleasin'

Baby breedin' type

Now that I's be married

I can't go to the Juke Joint

I can't be

Swin' my hips

Kissin' other mens lips

Small dress wearin' type

Its not what wifes do

I thought as I drunk another glass of her dream juice at the Juke joint.

Big girls don't cry is dedicate to someone special to me. She will always be my love bug. I will always be there for you babe. Hold your head up.

Big girls don't cry

I'm a big girl now mommy

I don't cry, I promise I don't

I promise I won't

he grab me by my hair

and slaps me down

dignity and AB all over the ground

I begged

I pleaded

but I didn't cry

even when his he took his fingers and wrapped them around my neck

my legs dangled

I scratched at his hands

he applied pressure to my body

I felt like I was going to see you soon

but no tears from these eyes

he spat at me

as he ripped the only thing I had to remember of you

he ripped it into little piece

I promise

I tried

But mommy is it okay?

is it okay if Big girls cry?

That's the sweetest thing I have heard in a while. Maybe one day.

I don't read much poetry online... I enjoyed these. I hope it's a good thing to say (I think it is...!) but the way in which these poems are written makes me think you'd be a good lyricist, do you write songs? If you know a musician, perhaps they could set one or two of them to music..

I'm guessing you're talking about "Momma said". Most women was raised to act like a lady. As I have grown up I have noticed those qualities are only useful for appearances. For example, I was raised to act a way in front of adults but the older I get the less I see the purpose.
