How Did I Meet My Husband?

Updated on March 31, 2019

How two completely different people from different sides of the world met?

I tried online dating for the first time in 2007 after almost a year of breakup. I was never serious about it and had only decided to try it just for fun. I was usually shy and was not so good with dating in person.I have only had a couple of serious relationship but never had a long one either. In the year 2010, I took a leap of faith and decided to take the matter seriously. It was not an overnight decision. It was through learning experience that I decided to take a chance.

You take a chance. Usually, it is that unforeseen future that gives you the thrill to take a step forward and ultimately, each step counts toward the path for either success or failure.

Presently, Chris and I have been together for almost nine years now and have been married for over six years.

My husband Chris, a native from Arkansas joined the military when he was 18. That same year, he was deployed to some countries of the middle east. Since then, he has been everywhere. He never once thought of dating a Filipina nor marrying one. On his last assignment in Afghanistan in the year 2010 as an Army Nurse, he decided to enroll to an online dating website when he heard about it from his close friend Jack and his father. He just recently recovered from a bad break up and wanted to get a fresh start. While on deployment, his late father who lived in the Philippines for about five years inspired him to do it. Prior to that, he has sent his father to different places to travel as his birthday gift. What could you possibly give to your parents who has everything? He said, send them on vacation to visit places they have never been. And that's exactly what he did. Later on, he has sent his father on a plane to visit the Philippine islands. For a brief period of time, Dad Michael decided to stay there for good and got married to a young Filipina whom he met via online dating. He called him and said, "Son, sell all of my properties. I am not coming back." Chris was in awe and could not believe what his father had said.

Chris met his first Filipina online date when he visited his father in Cebu City in the year 2009. However, it did not work for him immediately. He first traveled to the islands of Bohol where the famous Chocolate Hills and the smallest primate known as Tarsier (intermediate form between Lemur and Monkey) are located. During his stay, he discovered how beautiful the islands are in the Philippines and just how wonderful the culture is. Especially, he fell in love with the beauty of the people and their kindheartedness. After his first try of online dating, he enrolled to Cherry Blossoms dating website and decided to give it his best chance.

I was born and raised in Cebu, Philippines. Growing up, my grandmother has been telling me of the wonderful tales of having an american husband. I would have a pretty, blue eyed baby to care of in a beautiful house if I would want it. I never took it seriously and never wished for it to happen either. In the years later, my Aunt Shan got married to a very nice guy from France in 2007. I found out, she enrolled to an online dating website called Cherry Blossoms. That was my first knowledge ever about a dating website. I thought, wow! Is that possible? How could you marry someone you don't even know that well? How does that work? That would be so scary! But in the summer of 2010, after school, I enrolled into the Cherry Blossoms Online Dating Website which was recommended by my Aunt Shan. Currently, she is now happily married in France with three kids.

To start, I was awkwardly scrolling for images of attractive guys and sorted out their profiles to match theirs with mine.I saw this image of a Southern Gentleman who wore a blue flannel shirt and had his pair of tantalizing eyes and beautiful smile I could hardly resist. Of course, that's how I took a chance immediately. I wrote him a brief greeting. And on the next day, right after my birthday, August 31,2010, I got my reply. The rest is history.

The man who took my heart and yet completes me.
