How Do I Know When I am in Love?

Updated on June 28, 2019

Love is Friendship

Love comes in many shapes and forms. You can be in love with your family, friend, or your pets. One of the most important love will be the one between you and your partner. The relationship between you both will be stronger than anything in the world and nothing can tear you apart. Love can start out as just mear friendship and slowly turn into so much more, or it could be love at first sight. You will know when the person is, "the one." You may be wondering, well how will I know? It is a feeling that you feel deep in your gut. Sometimes those feelings could be blinded by lust. Lust is not loved. Sometimes love starts with lust in many cases. You can fall in love at almost any age. For me, I fell in love at the age of 17 and I have been married for 6 years now. It may not be very long at all, but our relationship is strong and I know he is the one and he will always be the one.

Love is a beautiful thing!

How Do You Know They Aren't The One?

It is not very hard to tell if the person you are interested in is the one. Here is a list to take into consideration. How do you know they aren't the one for you:

  • If they try to change who you are and how you dress.
  • If they don't except your friends rather they are male or female. Envy does not make anyone look good. If anything it makes their personality ugly.
  • If they try to forbid you from hanging out with your family or friends.
  • If they try to keep you from doing the hobbies you enjoy because they do not like them.
  • If they text you and get upset because you do not text back. You shouldn't have to text them 24/7. They should know you have a life outside of your phone.

These are just a few of the facts that someone is not right for you. If your partner is doing any of these then you need to get out of that toxic relationship. You may love them, but they do not truly love you and if they do not truly love you then you two are not meant to be together.

No one actually knows what love is.

What if I'm in a Love Triangle?

Believe it or not, you can be in love with two different people at the same time. Is it healthy? No way! If you are in an open relationship then, I guess it would be okay, but in my honest opinion, I think it makes a relationship stronger if it is just two people, you and your lover/partner. So you think yours in love with this person and that person. They both make you feel great. You can not choose between the two. You can not have them both. Just date them both and as you get to know them, you will soon choose who is right for you. Not everyone is the same. You may like variety, but you can not just use people for your own game. If they claim that they are in love with you and someone else, you might want to prove how worthy you are to be loved by them. Win them over. If they decide to be with the other person, then they were not the right person for you. There are so many people in the world, so there has to be one special person for you.

Where is my special someone?

What if I Never Find Love?

I have always had a fear of being alone. I do not want to be alone. Almost everyone does not want to be alone besides those who are loners. Sometimes we see these older people who never find their loved ones. Some of them are quite happy being single. It's not like it's the end of the world if you do not fall in love. Being single is not all bad. You do not have to worry about cleaning up after someone besides yourself. You do not have to worry about using up all your money to support someone else other than yourself. You don't have to worry about someone complaining over every little thing you do. If you would rather have someone to take care of and support than do not give up looking for the right person.

Don't give up!

Very interesting topic! You’ve given me a lot of food for thought.

“You can be in love with your family, friend, or your pets.”

Actually I believe you can love them but being “in love” involves having sexual desire.

It’s our desire for physical intimacy that differentiates (romantic love) from platonic love.

“How do you know they aren't the one for you?”

In order for him/her to be “the one” they would have to see (you) as being “the one”.

If you’re not happy with who you are when you’re with someone they aren’t the one.

Truth be told it’s up to you to know what it is (you) want and need in a mate. Each of us (chooses) our own friends, lovers, and spouse.

Each of us has our mate selection process and must haves list.

Each of us has our own boundaries and “deal breakers”.

“Never love anyone who treats you like you’re ordinary.”

      – Oscar Wilde

“Believe it or not, you can be {in love} with two different people at the same time.”

I tend to disagree with that statement. When you’re “in love” you’re not going to (make the time) to be with someone in a way that would allow you to become emotionally invested in another person. Having said that if you simply (love or care about someone) but you’re NOT “in love” you may be tempted.

“No one actually knows what love is.”

I agree there is no universal definition for love however everyone has their own idea of what love (feels like), (looks like), and how they believe couples “in love” should (act like). Essentially everyone is looking for someone to love them (the way) THEY want to be loved. If they don’t “feel loved” it doesn’t matter what is actually in their mate’s heart.

Gary Chapman wrote a best-selling book titled “Five Languages of Love”. The goal is to find someone who naturally or is willing to learn to express love (the way we need) in order to feel loved.
