Minnesota Musing: Being a Hypocrite - How I Affect You

Updated on February 5, 2017

I Have Read...

There are things that I remember about the Bible. There are a lot of words in there that did not make sense the first time I read it. But, in the mid 1970's, I received two years of instruction and training and did receive the news that I had successfully completed the unit.

I was confirmed in the Spring of 1976. I was 14, going on 15. June is my birthday.

All of us were given a verse that was to be ours. Mine was Mathew 6:33. Written in a way that would get me in trouble with editors today for words that do not seem right. I shall borrow the words from Bible Hub and quote:

For after all these things do the Gentiles seek - That is, those destitute of the true doctrines of religion, and unacquainted with proper dependence on Divine Providence, make it their chief anxiety thus to seek food and clothing. But you, who have a knowledge of your Father in heaven; who know that He will provide for your needs, should not be anxious. Seek first His kingdom; seek first to be righteous, and to become interested in His favor, and all necessary things will be added to you. He has control over all things, and He can give you what you need. He will give you what he deems best for you.

Don't Worry He will Provide

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.

Again, quoting from the convenience of Bible Hub, Psalm 23:1 - A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Do The Birds Worry About Their Next Meal

Again, borrowing words from Bible Gateway:

Mathew 6:26 - 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Love One Another

John 13:34

Taking the words from Biblia: 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

Love Your Enemies

Mathew 5:44 - Love Your Enemies.

Quoting from Bible Hub,

You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil person. If someone slaps you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also; if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well; and if someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even Gentiles do the same?

Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.

On Being a Hypocrite

So, now, I was told the other day, that you cannot be gay, because their love is bad. I argued that Love is love and we are supposed to love one another. The person argued back that homosexual love is bad, that we are to label homosexuality as a sin, and to love the sinner and hate the sin.

To which, I argued that if you lived on a deserted island, and you were the only person, you wouldn't have to worry about it. To which, I was told that my mind would create situations that would cause me to sin. which made me utter the words that God said love one another.

Love one another.

Establishing an Enemy

Okay, so now, I must establish an enemy, so that I can love my enemy. Let's select a homosexual for an enemy for the sake of this example.

Okay. So. If I am to love my enemy, then, I am being a hypocrite for criticizing someone else for loving someone else.

Isn't that the dumbest thing you've ever heard of? I am supposed to be critical of someone loving someone else, so that I can be justified in criticizing them.

Huh?

So, what I am saying here, is that I'm saying it's okay for me to love my enemy, but it's not okay for my enemy to love who he or she loves.

Ridiculous!!!
