Preacher's Son

Updated on December 24, 2011

Son of a Preacher Man

Posse on Broadway

Its Hard Out Here For a Pimp

I was young and naïve (in some ways I still am) and at the time was just fascinated by this young and sexy man. His name was Tony but his father called him Anthony because it was his given name. His father was a preacher and if only I knew then what I know now I would have probably never given him a second thought. Or maybe I would have.

I do not have an extensive past when it comes to dating. In fact you can count the people I have dated on two hands at the most. The people that I have dated have been very colorful to say the least. For some reason interesting people are drawn to me, I have no idea why but it has been that way for years now.

Looking back, even though I was very naïve, I was introduced to another world when I had to take public transportation to school. Taking the bus to school was a real eye opener for me, I saw everything imaginable but that is a whole other story for another time. Public transportation helped me to grow up quickly and taught me things that I wish I had never learned.

I met a lot of people going to and from school for about 7 years. It was on one of these bus rides that I met the infamous Tony. He was very good looking and a few years older than me. I got to know Tony on our bus rides. I have to admit looking back I was awestruck by him. Tony seemed so worldly at the time. Now I know that I was just gullible, young and naïve.

Tony was smart and sexy or so I thought. We talked about a lot of things, all on a 20 minute bus ride. I found out that his father was the preacher at a local church. I figured that this was a good thing but I knew nothing about preacher kids. I was pleasantly surprised when he asked me out. I met him at Dick’s (a burger joint) on Broadway which was a major hang out. And from that time on we started dating. I was surprised that he had a car since I knew him from the bus. His car was nice and new BMW I was just a freshman in high school so that was not something that I was used to seeing. I figured it was his father’s car but he told me that it was his and that he had worked hard for it. Little did I know what type of work he was into. We went out a few times and had a really good time. It was about the fourth or fifth date when things started to go downhill and incredibly fast. The first few dates were fun and exciting but then I started to find out the real Tony.

Tony always had money and lots of it, but never really talked about his job so I decided to ask him about it because I wanted to know what he did for a living. He was laughing when he answered and told me that he was a pimp. I thought he was joking at first because he was laughing. Then I started wondering if he was really serious. I started to ask him a ton of questions to see if he was serious and then started passing judgment on his career choice. This did not make Tony very happy and this is when I started to see the real Tony. He was not the nice and sweet young man that I met on the bus. This was a completely different side. He was not happy with our conversation and my views on pimps or guys who wanted to perpetrate being a pimp. Tony went from being not very happy to being incredibly angry in a very short time span. The final straw came when Tony kicked me out of his car and told me to walk home.

I was far from home and knew that the buses had already stopped running for the night. I thought that Tony was joking again until he opened the door for me and basically pushed me out of the parked car. Oh well I thought I would figure something out, anything would be better than staying here with him. So I started walking towards home trying to figure out what I was going to do. As I was walking away I could still hear Tony yelling at me but I didn’t really care all I was thinking about was getting home, luckily it wasn’t too cold out. I couldn’t tell what he was yelling anyway it was all garbled. As I was thinking of my options I heard a loud bang and what sounded like metal scraping. The sound was loud and horrendous. I was startled and turned around quickly to see what was going on. When I turned around my first reaction was laughter I couldn’t help it. The night was already crazy and this was the perfect ending to this evening. When I turned around I saw Tony’s precious BMW destroyed. A truck that was driving down the street had ripped the driver’s side door completely off of his car. The door was just lying in the middle of the road and the truck was stopped. So I did what I thought was best and turned back around to continue on my merry way.

Thanks Cris! Karma is a very funny thing sometimes. I love it when life lessons are funny, then you can sit back, laugh and learn.

Deborrah - Yes it does take time to get to know someone. Sometimes its better to take that time.

Thank you for sharing this experience. I am sure it will help and provoke others to proceed with a bit more caution rather than hastily jump into a relationship; you just never know! It takes time to get to really know someone.

What an incredible experience. Thank goodness you got out of the car when you did. As we can see things are not always as they seem, so we should all try to look beneath the surface as long as it depends on us. Really good hub.

I know what you are talking about - different place and personality - but I also was like you naive. At least you were lucky to find out straight away. I married that ..., he was not a pimb, but the nasty streak and affairs just the same.
