A story of love

R.C was a tall thin guy

working on a ranch all week

as he rode into town

he saw a sweet young thing

he was mesmerized and couldn't speak

He wanted so to meet the lass

but in this frozen state

he watched as she left with another

up the wedding isle....

R.C. was too late

The next time he saw the lass

a babe was in her arm

but the clothes she wore were

mourning black

her young husband had come to harm

He swore he would not lose her again

this lass who had stolen his heart

so he knelt to his knees and professed his love

and she said " We will never part".

They were wed in the fall

as the church bells rang

the Lord smiled down from above

he gave them his own blessing

a life time filled with love.

I know the feeling, my dad died when I was in my twenties. My mom lived to be 91, in the same house for 40 years before moving in with me for 3 years then to a care home for a couple. I used to drive by her house every few years to check on her roses in the front yard, haven't done it now for a long time since moving to a different town.

Another great poem! I lost my dad when I was eleven...many long years ago...I lost my mom over two years ago...it's still hard to drive by her home and know she's not there anymore...
