Romance in the Twenty First Century

That Little Voice From Within
I was sitting at my computer, trying very hard to write on this week’s topic and it kinda went like this:
Me : There are men that always know just what to do and say to a woman, but I do not fit into that file……not even in the same filing cabinet. That sounds OK, now what do I say next? Hmmmm.Uhhmmmm. I could………………uhhhmmmm.
And another thing about romance. Uhmm, let me see…nope... What about, romance means many things to many people. Nope that is too dull. Hoo boy, I just have to come up with something to impress my someday legion of loyal readers!
Voice: Maybe your readers will enjoy seeing you squirm at your computer, as you write something “romantic” that comes out “dumb”?
Me: Hey who said that?
Voice: I am that “little voice”.
Me: You again? Didn’t I tell you to leave me alone when I am writing? Sheeesh!
Voice: No problem. Go ahead and write.
Me: Thank you!
OK, where was I? Hmmmm. OK, I think I have something here……Romance in the Twenty First Century. Yeah, that sounds pretty good. Let’s discuss that. Romance in the Twenty First Century is different than the Twentieth Century.
Uhmmm….(fingers twiddling and pacing the floor) What if I…………..nope that has already been done. I could always………………………………….uh uh that has GOT to be illegal!
Me: Now what do I do little voice?
Voice: Are you talking to me?
Me: No I’m talking to Robert De Niro……………of course I’m talking to you!
Voice: OK, you don’t have to get hostile, ya know?
Me: OK, sorry. What do I write about next?
Voice: (long pause) I got nothing.
Me: Thank you sooo much!
Suppose I ………………………………………………..oh man, what was I thinking? I can’t do this! Maybe I’ll submit something to the weekly topic next week. I guess I just better close and try to do better next time.
And now I need a real killer of a closer. Let’s see, how about ……This has been Romance in the Twenty First Century, brought to you by a great deal of indecision.
Voice: It needs work.
Me: Hey it’ll have to do to!
This has been Romance in the twenty first century, brought to you by a promise to do better next week.
