Romney's Binder Full of Women
I find this incredible. In the Oct.16th presidential debate, Mitt Romney referred to reviewing a binder full of women looking for qualified women to work in his 2002 Massachusetts government. The democrats are slamming him for this comment. Both Obama and Biden are making jokes about it.
Why?
Qualified candidates can be difficult to find, wherever you look. Just ask any job recruiter trying to fill a position with specific skills that the client wants. The response Romney gave was just a sliver of a much longer answer about women and the class ceiling and how women often still receive less for the same job that a man does.
Romney indicated that he went to special women's groups for their input, fact is, it was the other way other around. The MassGap group trying to promote women in the workplace went to both the democrats and republicans during the campaign and after Romney won, selections were made. In fact, his Lt. Governor was a woman. Studies show the Romney did hire more men for the most important positions in many cases. Whether this was simply because of a gender issue or job qualifications is unknown.
In any case, a "binder full of women" is not different than one full of men. To suggest that Romney is somehow anti-woman in the job place is just something the Democrats want you to think.
