Definition of a Sibling.
What are siblings? Rather who are siblings? As Google defines it, “Siblings are people who share at least one parent. A male sibling is called a brother; and a female sibling is called a sister. In most societies throughout the world, siblings usually grow up together and spend a good deal of their childhood socializing with one another.”
But more than giving it a mechanical feel to it, why not give it a humanely, love filled definition. Siblings are those people who give a new meaning to life every day. They sometimes act like friends, sometimes foes and sometimes even parents. They play such an important role in life that it’s almost indefinable. But between siblings, age matters a lot. If there is a lot of gap, they tend to get a distance between each other and then the relationship becomes very perfunctory. Rather, putting it in a simpler word, emotionless.

Relating to my personal experiences; we are two children, both daughters, with an age gap of almost 5 years. I have other siblings too, rather cousins with whom I share almost the same age and thoughts. But the relationship I have with my sister is extremely different and as I said before, indefinable. When I am with her, the feeling of having somebody isn’t required. We are as different as chalk and cheese, being it in physical appearances, personality and even thoughts. But there is this kind of an invisible bond that bounds us so tight which is unbreakable. I am tall and skinny while she is a little short and stout; I’m on the darker side while she is extremely fair; I have straight hair while she has beautiful cascading curls. Then also we are together. Always there for each other.
I don’t re-call a single thing that we have hidden from each other. Hiding doesn’t even come into the picture. As if it’s impossible to do so. Now that is what I call a relationship. I have come across many kind of sibling relationships. As a psychology student I have analyzed them too. There are siblings who just cannot tell each other things; there are ones who are scared of the elder ones; there are ones who share an extremely sweet relationship and finally there are ones who are more than any of them put together.
If you have a sibling make every effort to be with them, get close to them. Share your feelings, emotions, barriers because such people will never come in our life again. They are born precious. After our mothers, they are like angels in our lives. Don’t miss it. Enjoy every second; you do not know if they will ever come back also. Im blessed having her in my life and all of you please see the blessing, because they must be right next to you. Identify them.
