The Little Things Go A Long Way

Updated on August 14, 2010

To my soldiers...

Sometimes the little things in life are what make all the difference.

A hello does not go as far as a smile and some eye contact.  Opening a door for someone can make them feel important or give them hope that chivalry is not yet dead.  The more important things in life become laughs rather than money, and friendship rather than sex.  A typical 'how are you' doesn't go as far or mean as much as a heartfelt deep conversation that lasts for hours and hours.  Your lover's arm around you rather than under the pillow can be the difference in how safe you feel and how well you sleep.   It can mean how much you'll miss them when they're gone.

Sometimes the little things aren't always best for you, but they get you through the toughest moments.

A night with rum and tequila can unbreak your heart or erase your regretted past.  They give you a night of release and the strength to move on once you remember what it's like to be OKAY.  What it used to be like living without the pain and misery that others left you to.  A drag of a cigarette can allow you to exhale the weight of the world or clear your head to a complete relaxation.

It is the little things that matter.

Every time you're told you're beautiful or amazing you smile.  When he plays a song that reminds him of you or when she sings a love song and looks into your eyes, it makes a world of difference.

Remember the little things, they'll get you through.
